Doc Rivers shouldn't be in the top 10. Probably shouldn't be in the top 20. Nevertheless, you did an excellent job with this list. Thanks for sharing!
I think Butch should be number one. He was the floor general on the national champs and although Bo was also integral to that team, Butch was player of the year. I was very happy to see Earl Tatum at number 10 because I think he is usually underrated in the analysis of all time players. That man could shoot the lights out - if they had the three point line when he played, he would have been a lot closer to the top on the all time scoring list. Chones should have been top 10, and Doc should have been 11-15 range. I saw a lot of hawks games in the late 80's early 90's after moving to Atl and loved his pro game). Doc's best college season was his freshman year though. I saw all of these guys that I've referenced play at MU, having started attending games in 1971. So, my comments are made without the benefit of knowing all the stats, but more of a gut feeling and impressions from watching them live. No qualms about Kojis and Rand because my dad is an alum (dental school '56) and I've heard of the greatness of those guys as well. Oh, and Mo Lucas was an absolute beast. He would eat Harangody and Butch for appetizers and Gary and Hibbert for lunch with Thabeet for dessert.
I too think Butch should be #1. He led those Warrior teams during a very successful period.
Bo Ellis is admittingly VERY underrated. He was a pretty dominant big man in the post.
Doc DOES belong in the top 10. He was MU's Butch Lee in the early 80s. It also doesn't hurt to be recognized as one of the best when selected for the World Championships...and lead the US team in scoring and a tourney MVP!
Thanks for the feedback. The Cracked Sidewalks guys now have a vote up listing the top 5, and D. Wade is running away with it (no qualms there, even though I did go in and cast one vote for Bo to be consistent with my article). I may feel like big men are often a little under appreciated, because I put Bo slightly ahead of D. Wade and Lee, and the most defending I had to do was on McIlvaine being in the Top 15. Clearly Dwyane, Bo and Butch all have a strong case to be made for the top - and I'd like to put that Top 12 up against anyone else's top 12! (THE AUTHOR)
