Title: [Paint Touches] Big East cannibalism and the NCAA Tournament
Post by: PaintTouches on January 28, 2019, 12:53:36 PM
This whole season has been a case of the Big East eating itself out of possible bids, but Sunday may have been the worst day yet. That led me to the question of what the best end of season scenarios would look like.

Is it better to have a lower number of bids (4) with higher upper echelon seeds (3s for MU and Nova)?

Or is it better for Nova and MU to be resume builders and increase the potential for NCAA bids to 5/6?

The answer is whatever maximizes revenue shares from the tournament. MU/Nova need to get high seeds to get a deep run or we need a lot of seeds that can potential make second weekend runs.....much more likely the former but I don't have the data to figure out the optimization of revenue.

I did include some expected win by seed data if you can make it to the bottom half of the article. I still don't have a clear answer.

The best thing for the league is for Depaul, Xavier and Georgetown to stop beating the other 7 teams.
