Did Scoopers miss this or did I miss this nickname being referenced while my wife and I were travelling?
From Ben Steele's recap of the Marquette 79 - Northern Illinois 70 game 12/18/17:
John, the 6-9 freshman center called "Tarzan" by teammates for his muscle-bound build, pulled down five rebounds in the first 20 minutes, including three on the offensive end, and added two emphatic blocks.

Yeah I think Markus mentioned it in an interview before last season. Never really stuck on Scoop. Not sure if the team still calls him that
I think McDermott gave him the nickname that should stick: "The Monster"
Agreed. 'The Monster' is much better.
Taught eye herd, Theo "Flush da" John sumwear, hey?
I prefer the ironic name Little John, like from Robin Hood.
Leroy Brown. The baddest man in the whole damn town.

I kinda like this
Whenever I refer to Theo I just find myself saying. TheeeO (head shaking)... The dude is a stud.
I don't think he needs a nickname when that comes out so naturally.
"Big Guy"

I like this. I also liked "Predator," but then remembered that was Crowder's nickname.
When I think of "The Monster" it always makes me think of a book I read to my kids hundreds of times, The Monster at the End of this Book (https://www.amazon.com/Monster-End-This-Book/dp/0307010856/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1547824562&sr=1-1&keywords=the+monster+at+the+end+of+this+book).
I think of Theo as "The Monster at the End of the Lane"
Agree on little john.
But I always use BEast
Based on his snapchat, he is a super religious dude.
Maybe something like.....the Bishop?

John the Baptist
Thick Theo has been the most obvious nickname ever.
The Nile. Because Denial ain't just a river in Egypt, it is also Theo in the lane.
The name Theodore means God's gift.
Shaft, he's a bad motha...

John the Baptist
This is awesome. Perfect double entendre when he baptizes someone. Only thing is I'd shorten to simply the Baptist. Make this stick!!

John the Baptist or Little John, I see lots of potential in both.
I'm going to keep calling him Big Bad Theo John.

Theo is a bad bad man.
I didn't mind the Wall of Theo....but Little John or John the Baptist is better
I thought I heard one of tonight's announcers refer to him as " The Wall of Theo"
Doesn't need a nickname. "Theo" is good enough.
He's not gonna get confused with any other Theo.

As much as I think Theo embodies the spirit behind that nickname, we just
can't do that. You can't just recycle nicknames. If we someday have a new coach named Albert Smith, he will never be able to be simply "Al" at Marquette. A player named Darrell Wade will never be "DWade" at Marquette. I could go on.
Personally, I'm with McDermott. Theo is The Monster.
+1 -- McDermott's quote was awesome and very good advice.
John only needs 10 more blocks to crack the top 10 for blocks in a single season for Marquette.
What about Bad Man? Cuz he's a bad man.
Lots of nicknames get recycled. Is TFJ appropriate? I suggested Leroy Brown earlier, cuz Theo is the baddest man in the whole damn town. But TFJ is easier.

I'm in the "Theo doesn't need a nickname" camp. But here are several more terrible options anyway:

Theo "Huh-Uh" John
Theo "Defense Is My Middle Name" John
Theo "No Points For You" John
Theo "Block Power" John
Theo "You're Really Not Going To Like This" John
Theo "Irresistible Force" John

This, less is more. Just Theo. When you get to a certain level all you need to hear is one name and that says it all.
However, I am not a nickname guy, I think the vast majority of them are too gimmicky and only used to amuse people who think they are really creative, but are not. Of course there are exceptions, but in general they mostly all are bad.

If we're going with an oldie for his theme song, probably better to use something from this guy:

I was serious, but not because I personally would consider it racist. I am just not sure everyone else would take it in the spirit in which it was intended.
Think about it: It's a first name that is a stereotype, a last name that is a skin tone, and the comparisons are to a dog and an ape.
It's an outrage disaster waiting to happen.
I like "The Monster"
Theo "Block Rockin' Beats" John
Have to go back to AL McGuire: "The Aircraft Carrier" !
Stephen Howard, the former BlueDemon doing analyst for FS1 last night tried something with the Wall of Theo, or the Theo Wall.
But I feel that is lacking. Nerlens Noel was known as the Nerlen Wall. That provides a vision. Rudy Gobert, the Frenchman in Utah known as the Stifle Tower. Even a secondary name of The French Rejection.
Maybe something from the Block of John, or Theo 3:16, Thou shalt not score. Block/Swat/Denial/Reject 3:16? Tarzan 3:16? I feel there's something there. Just have to find the right combo.
I'm waiting for Dickey Simpkins to call the game. Somebody call security! Or maybe that's just for steals.

Almost more importantly, Leroy Brown gets his ass kicked in the end and Theo is getting his ass kicked by no one.
If we are forced to contribute to the nickname thing, I like #TheEraser. Wojo in his Providence post game said Theo erases a lot of mistakes they make on defense and some of these blocks he makes erase could end up erasing them from the timeline.
