Clearly it's Chartouny with the clutch FTs at the end.

Yes and no. Markus was more unreal than ever shooting, but the rest of his game was, uh, not good.
Sam, 0.0001 second 3pt shot to put it into overtime.

Markus shooting lights out in OT.
without sams shot, we are already on the bus back to the airport

Sam had a quiet double double. Must go to Howard though.

Yep. And he's not SOTG.
Some big plays by Sam, Theo and others, but 53 points is kinda big....
Markus. Sam might have made the split second shot, but Markus shot 15-26 with 10 3's, six assists and 1 block. I think that outweighs his 9 turnovers. If every one of them had counted for 3, that's 27 points lost from 53=26 so still shot above average.
Howard had half the pts., butt Eye'm givin' it two da refs four havin' da nads ta count Sam's shot, hey?
There has to be a Co Stud tonight. SAM AND MARKUS

All time Marquette single game scoring record. All time Big East scoring record. It's Howard, but Theo, Sam, Joey, and Chartouny all had some massive plays. Wow what a game.

This would be my vote
I think Markus took it kind of personal that 26 wasn't enough in the last game.
Markus.
That said, Sam's shot ... but it's Markus.
The 17,18 19 yo
Markus. Big shot by Sammy but c'mon. 53 points.
That said, Markus could pass the ball to the open player now and again. Seemed like Sam or Joey would be open and Markus wouldput his head down and drive.
Miracle shot by Sam, but SOTG is obviously Markus.

He could have had 12-14 assists tonight if he could figure out a way to pass it to Theo or Ed diving to the basket after setting a high screen. They were wide open 6-8 times easily.

Of course it's Markus.
His handle/lack of court vision sometimes drive me nutty, but let's appreciate the rare gem that we have. When he goes off, it's crazy!
Markus (very happy to be voting for a SOTG)
Markus. Honestly, he has to be first team AA, right? Nobody since Pistol Pete can score like that. Admittedly, he need to continue to work on other parts of his game. Know that he will.
Markus. No way around 53 points, 10-14 (!) from 3-point range, 6 assists, 13-15 from the line, and a block for good measure. He scored half of Marquette's points. If that isn't the performance of a stud, I don't know what is. Even with 9 turnovers (which I suspect might be a Marquette record).
Markus
Sam - Honorable Mention of the highest order.
One has to go for super saiyan over 9000 Markus Howard

Markus Agreed, was hoping he wouldnt get his first career double double.
He went cheat mode again with his shooting
Cheat code Markus
Wow, is he a special player. Wow.
His 9 Turnovers were frustrating but how can you argue with 53? Markus was the man tonight.
Meh. Wilt had 100 once. Not impressed at all with 53.
Sam and Markus.
Markus, but Sam's shot will be remembered for a long, long time. The drama of waiting for a final ruling recalls the late Jerome Whitehead's finish at the Omni in 77 during the semi's for us old-timers. Seconds minutes, go by. Everyone looking at the scorer's table....then sea shells and balloons for the MU faithful.
Don't forget Markus got the ball over the trees so he good launch it. Way to go Sam!

I'd argue that airballed three should have been called a foul instead. Which would have been 10/13.

He 100% was fouled, guy clearly got him on the arm. As difficult as officiating basketball is, that was a pretty bad miss for the ref who was standing just a few feet away.
I mean come on ... Markus swished about 348 straight 3s from every angle with guys draped all over him ... and now he's short by 5 feet on one without getting fouled?

Saw on the tube last night somebody (can't remember who - maybe from CBS?) had Markus third on his national POY list, behind Zion and Murray State's Morant.
Hard to believe national media would pick a guy from Murray State who is averaging fewer points than a guy from Marquette, but nonetheless it certainly means Markus is an AA at this point.

Maybe Matt Norlander? Morant leads the nation in assists at 9.9/game in addition to his 23.3 ppg. He won't win NPOY on a Murray State team that might not even win their conference (Belmont is also solid) but he's a heck of a player.

The announcer immediately afterwards said "That's not a foul! Just an airball".
That along with the non-explanation of the missed out of bounds call in OT had me losing my damn mind.

Wow. How'd you turn up that stat? I looked and couldn't find it. But I did run across this quote from James Harden after he set an all-time NBA record for most turnovers (13!) in a 2015 playoff game:
"I put so much pressure on myself to be really good every single night. And in some cases, you're not going to do that. You're not going to be good."
Rockets head coach Kevin McHale added, "Look, James didn't play well. But as I've said all year long, we don't win the division, we don't win 56 games...if it wasn't for how James played all year long."

Thanks for that info. Sounds like a fine player. I don't watch too many Murray State games (translation: I have only watched one in my life, the time we beat them in the NCAA tournament during Buzz's tenure), but this kid sounds good.
It's clearly Markus
Markus but that shot will be imortallized in MUBB history
I hope it's because it's only a little past lunchtime and Rocky isn't back from Arby's yet that he hasn't changed the SOTG from Sacar last game to Mr. 53 for the Creighton game...

Yep. Is it a top 5? Butch to Jerome, Vander against Davidson, Doc against ND, Novak, and this (not necessarily in order)? Am I missing anything super big?
Somebody should start a thread.

If you're going Vander against Davidson, you should add Vander against StJ. DJO against Cuse, Junior against UCONN could be there too. Team hadn't hit one all day before then. I believe that was also the game where the refs had the teams going the wrong way in OT.

Busy couple days. Obviously Howard. But as the game went on, I really did want others to be recognized.
Sam for being a stud even before nailing the 3 for OT.
Joey for hitting FTs (and doing generally good Joey things).
Joe for hitting FTs (confidently).
Theo for an and 1 (at a crucial moment).
Markus only gets the easy 50+ point games.
I showed (read: forced to watch) my daughter's boyfriend, who plays HS hoops, the last few minutes of the game plus OT. He was stunned and could only basically say "No way!" as Markus hit shot after shot, and "Theo!" for his three great defensive plays.
