We're all used to MU having a great offense. And Markus, Sam, Sacar and Joey can tear it up with the best of them. But so far (limited sample, I know) KenPom has Marquette's offense as 8th in the Big East play. Defense is 2nd, behind only Villanova.
Does Marquette suddenly have an offensive problem? Or has it just not clicked yet?
@ Creighton may tell us a lot
(see image)
Lack of shot creators. And Sam has stunk up two straight games.

Yeah, Ed's offence has added to the data.
We are playing against better defenses and Sam has been in a slump. He is missing wide open threes.
Honestly (and I know you addressed this in your post) 2 games is not enough data points to say anything conclusive.
Doubt Marquette will be the 3rd worst shooting team in the big east.., let's see a bigger sample size ...
All catagories will improve imo
2pt
3pt
Ft
Are all subject to improvement quickly with more games and return to form of their shooters.
I don't disagree with anything here...
- Markus sucked @ STJ
- Ed missed about 5 shots he should have made yesterday
- Sam's been missing 2-3 per game (everywhere) that we think he *should* make
- Lots of time for numbers to average out
But to have the season we expect, those things can't keep repeating. Creighton may be a good offensive tune-up (because their D isn't very good), but if it isn't we might need to start getting worried. BTW, that doesn't mean I expect an easy win, at Creighton. But I do think MU should win, and show decent offensive numbers if this team is going to come around.
Our boy at Paint Touches says that Howard's usage is at 33% of MU's possessions. Next highest is Sam at 18.9%. That's a 14.9% difference between 1 and 2 - by far the largest in major college ball. Probably not a good situation long term unless Joey gets up there around 17% too?
Also, interesting how we were 1st in blocks NonCon and now last. Xavier game should have helped that more.

Sam's %shots is around 23%. Im OK with him rarely turning it over tbh
It's hard to judge blocks based on the Xavier game. Theo hardly played and Xavier settled for ugly jump shots. Also, happy whistles didn't help in terms of defensive aggressiveness. As long as teams drive against us, the blocks will be there.
Frankly, I wish Joey would shoot more. It seems like he passes up a lot of open opportunities in favor of dumping the ball off to Sam or Markus.

We have played 2 BEast games. None of the stats point to trends yet. Let's play at least a half-dozen games and talk about this again.

Ok. I was at the game and remember the JOEY!!! JOEY!!! Screaming and leg stomping from wojo vividly. It wasn't because he wanted Joey to shoot more in that moment. Ha. It was cause Markus had the ball at the top of the key and Joey was facing the wrong way. As soon as wojo yelled at him Joey quickly spun and set a screen for MarKus.
MarKus then passed to Joey who then made a shot. So yes. It ended in a made shot by Joey. But it certainly wasn't a JOEY SHOOT MORE! It was a JOEY WTF ARE YOU DOING? SET THE SCREEN..... (Joey makes shot) OK.. GOOD SHOOT MORE. Type thing.
