We shall overcome!
I'm pretty sure your right. My biggest frustration right now is that for the second consecutive game, the defense was basically pathetic and unacceptable - definitely not Marquette basketball. You'll have days where shots aren't falling, etc. But the effort around defense and rebounding has to be there every time.
It sure doesn't look like 100% effort out there. Not that guys are dogging it necessarily, because I don't think anyone is. I do think they sincerely believe they are giving it 100%, but watching them play, I'm not sure they truly are. Hard to explain, but hopefully that kinda makes sense.
On to football, where I still can't believe the Packers may be headed to the Super Bowl.
I think the effort was there. We're used to enjoying a team that gets all the loose balls, rebounds well, etc. I don't think we necessarily do those things because we always outhustle the other team, but because we have superior athletes. I think we have run into consecutive teams who are just as athletic as we are, who are also bigger than we are, and who also happened to be having very good days. UConn shot the ball better than I have seen them all season. I think the biggest problem with our team is that when we run into these types of teams, we have to play tremendously well or they have to play tremendously poorly for us to win, because if our guards can't get to the basket, we are going to struggle, because the steals and second chance points are going to be too hard to come by.
I think he also talked about "grossly unjust treatment in the courts" one time too.
we have "superior athletes"? I think there's at least 10 Big East teams that match us athletically, and all of them are bigger, too. We have more athleticism than the Badgers and eight other Big Ten teams, but in this conference we are outmanned.
