Got down the floor, on the way to the other basket, with the ball in the hands, of Joe Chartouny. He was making for the basket on the outside, with a downcourt pass to Brendan Bailey.
1. Markus is Markus. Better appreciate him while he is here.
2. The bench got extended minutes. But did not really extend the lead while in there.
3. Felt like the Globetrotters versus the Washington Generals at times.
4. Cain and Bailey need to see a couple of shots go in. But it is possible they were actually feeling winded out there after so many minutes.
5. Would have liked to see Sacar run the point for a bit. Cain running the point? Even up 40, it made me shudder.
6. Southern is not good.
7. MU covered, nobody got hurt, walk ons got a lot of run. Play time is over. Time to kick SJU's (butt).
I really thought if there was ever a night someone could get 100, it was tonight for Howard. Obviously there was no chance ever of Woj letting that happen, but with him not missing until his last shot, he legit could have had at least 50 at half with almost little effort used.
At the end it was the Generals v the Generals.
Subs played a lot and MU's score stayed in the 70's, like forever. No shots going in.
Good to see the second team shooting, get the rust off, even against a terrible team.
Morrow was 2 for 7
Bailey was 2 for 10
Cain was 0 for 6
That's 4 for 23 between them. Better now than later.
Southern was worst team they played this year, but starters got a good workout.

Kind of amazing that everyone outside of Markus and perhaps Theo had off nights offensively and MU wins by 40+.
I mean, they aren't going to be counting on those guys for scoring so I don't think its that big of a deal. I am more concerned how they play within the flow of the offense and defense - and I can't figure out why Cain can't seem to figure out what's going on out there on defense.
It didn't resolve the 'Cain v Bailey' debate. Stark shooting percentages for the 3 listed.
Howard took 10 shots. Scored 26.
Bailey took 10 shots. Scored 6.

One other note, yes the guys shot 4 for 23, but three of them were dunks. Only outside shot was made by Bailey.
It was a great game to have them shoot because Southern was terrible and no big deal. Probably won't be another game where they shoot that much. Get the rust off.....
I really like how Wojo distributed the minutes tonight. The bench got a long run without the main guys. The walk-ons got several possessions instead of one possession and a run out the clock possession. Bad news is that the bench guys did not look good. We could have won by 70 if he played the regulars like he usually does in an easy win. Good sportsmanship, good for morale.
Markus is on a ridiculous roll. Hope he keeps it up in NY.

Agree. Was glad to see Wojo Let 2nd unit get a lot of run. Need game experience. Even though bench didn't look great, the PT is beneficial.
Thought we looked really good tonight...much better than earlier in the year where we were struggling against cupcakes for a decent portion of the game.
Should be a fun conference season ahead. Markus stays in this zone, MU should win Big East the way it's looking. Fun to be excited again.

Agree—need to get the rust off.
JimmyMac had a great tweet during the game. Something like:
"With 13 minutes to go, Southern and Markus are all tied up." :-)
Markus is on a roll! Phenomenal night!
Rest of the team did what they needed to do.
Cain is upright and tight. Not playing as loose as last year. Bailey ok but needs to emerge.
It will be good to see who plays well between the two of them in Conference. They need at least one and probably both to contribute at a high level to win the big east.
Marquette moved up in kenpom from 30 to 29 despite playing Southern at 336.
Excellent to see people fill the student sections over break versus a 1-11 team.
Not a negative comment on our heroes at all but ...
Southern was frighteningly bad. Or laughably bad. Or choose-your-adverbly bad.
There probably are a few excellent basketball-factory-type HS teams that could give Southern quite a run.
Ten minutes in, my single goal was to have none of our players get hurt. Nice job by Wojo to limit the starters' minutes. I actually loved seeing lots of Matt Heldt tonight!
Tonight was the last chance to use the comp ticket . Announced attendance 16,075.
Really delighted to see Cam get that basket and point up to his Dad. The team was so happy for him.
On to conference play with an 11-2 record. Good times ahead.

Marcus, Sam, Joey all hitting same game = unbeatable. Go Marquette!
Limited sample size, but JCS is now shooting 41.7% (10-for-24) from 3-point range. Nice!
Hit a couple huge treys against Buffalo, and confidently stepped into one tonight. Good to see. Needs to keep defense honest when he's in there, especially if Markus is getting a breather.
JCS did shoot 38% from downtown as a soph, so it's not outrageous to think he can hit around 40% if the defense is focusing on Markus and Sam.

JCS? What is the S?
Senior?
But then Cain would also be JCS since he's a sophomore.
When's the last time MU allowed 17 pts or less in the 1st half?

Morrow doesnt shoot the ball, he literally throws the ball at the basket. It is uncanny. Has a nice stroke an touch from the FT line but abandons any semblance of a shooting stroke during the game. Never seen anything like it. Apart from layups and dunks its a major reason the ball rarely goes in.
Surprisingly no comments about Joey's off night. He'll bounce back, no doubt. It's nice that everyone broke a good sweat. Nice tough practice today and off to NYC.

Southern is the worst, they might not win another game. Their only win was against NAIA Wiley University. Give them credit though, they played Baylor, Alabama, Louisville, Iowa State and MU, got some good money for the program. Lost every game by an average of over 30.

They'll win some games, they have been competitive playing at their level. But you are right, they were terrible and easily the worst team we've played.
Southern's best player was out last night under concussion protocol. Certainly wouldn't have mattered in the result, but they might have looked a tad better if he were in.

Was at the game. Pretty quiet, with no fault to the crowd because it was over after 10 min.
Huge pop for Cam's 3 though.

I actually commented the exact same while watching last night's game. Still ... he was huge in the win over the evil Rodents, so however he needs to do his job is great!
