My Godson has 12/26 as his birth-date. So, Uncle Godfather has to double up next week. He has been accepted to Marquette for next fall. His Grandmother, also a proud Marquette alum, and I have already loaded him up on MU logo gear.
I'm looking for a suggestion that would be appropriate for a young man about to enter college. Something for the dorm room, etc. Thoughts?
An MUSCOOP login. This is where the real education occurs.
It's probably far enough in advance that most things haven't been bought. A mini fridge or TV are always winners.
Beer bong? More seriously a deccent blue tooth speaker if he doesn't have one would be a good bet. I went off to MU 10yrs ago and I really appreciated getting a pretty massive speaker the christmas before.
Buy him this cool vase.

A knockoff on Piper's suggestion, but consider a portable karaoke machine.
It's the Rob Deer of Christmas presents... you're either going to knock it out of the park or you're going to go down swinging.
Stored Value Loyalty Cards for Ricky's, Wales on Wells, the Lanche, Hegarty's, George Webb, and Angelo's. Nothing demands respect better than a loyalty card. And privileged access to these Marquette institutions ensures the young man's education will be rounded and balanced.

Since you seem more familiar with the re-sale shoe market than I am, have you seen the all gold set that Sam is wearing these days? I love those, but haven't been able to sniff them out anywhere.

Yeah, I remember being pretty pumped that my Freshman year roommate had a boom box WITH A CD PLAYER!!! I remember thinking, damn, he must be rich.

These?

I wish those were available...those were Jordan XXII's and were PE (player exclusive) and never sold in retail. Occasionally a pair will pop up on eBay but are $$$$$ (north of $600 or $700).
Yea, that's them. I'd pay a pretty penny for a pair, but that is way to steep for me.
A keg tapper is always appreciated at that age.

Great idea too...
Bluetooth is probably the way to go, depending on your budget...some either love or hate Airpods, Jaybirds are nice, Beats I think get a little but of bad a rap, but they are solid...then you have your Sony's, Bose, JBL, Sennheiser...

Big fan of my jaybirds for the gym.
Probably wouldn't be as comfortable for being at the library/studying for a long time. Would definitely try to find some over-the-head ones for that situation

Pull up your pants, your age is showing.
OR
Put all that money on a Ricky's giftcard.
Not sure how 'much' you like your godson .. An Echo Show is $180* these days. Then their parents can just 'drop in' on him at any moment, CIA style. Heck, they should go halvsies.
Amazon gift cards are .. the king of the gift cards.
This might not be for him, but a fave in my family is http://prepsportswear.com .. type in any name and they have a school (or will make one for you.)
Example: https://prepsportswear.com/college/us/mascots/seattle/hilltoppers?schoolid=2909015
The best part is you can pick your sport/activity. My son is currently wearing a zip-up with his name, and "FIGHT CLUB" which is the most ironic thing I could find. (Use coupon code HOLIDAYVIP for 35% off..)
* Sale ended, it's now $230. It'll go back down.

Wow...that site is really cool. I could have a lot of fun on there. And spend a lot of money.
I think a Marquette University "Prom King" sweatshirt (with his name on the back, natch) would make a great gift for Sir Lawrence's Godson.
Actually, with two in college right now, I'd add my recommendation of one of the Echo/Dot/type products. Even better if it's one of the ones that doubles as a good bluetooth speaker.
Thank you all. As usual, this has been both helpful and entertaining.
Gift cards to culture.

anyone can menstruate now. don't be exclusive.
Sir
There really are some very solid suggestions on this thread. Maybe you could rent him your and the Commish's former apartment for a party spot. It seemed to be a good location when I was in high school.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family. Hope all is well.

Perhaps his junior year. Good times! Larry Christmas to you and yours!
Whatever the gift, wrap it in a sheet of Arby's coupons. It adds a nice touch.

It's always been menstruation, not womenstruation. Coincidence?
Just like it's uterus, not uteryou. (Thanks, Homer J)
Just sit him down for a long conversation, and tell him how proud you are of him. Tell him you know he is going to have a great life, that you know he will be a wonderful contributor to society, and that you will always be there for him if he ever needs you.
That will be better than any material object, something he will truly appreciate and value.
Ah ... who am I shyttin'? ...
As Randy Moss used to say: Straight cash, homey!

Menstruation, menopause.
Men are involved in most aspects of female misery.

Much to my (very pleasant) surprise, my wife found this website independently. One of the things I asked for this Christmas was something from my high school. Didn't care much what it was -- shirt, hat, etc. I went to a small high school halfway across the country, and I really didn't give much thought to how she might get it. But she found this website and bought me a great sweatshirt. All embroidered and really nicely done. It's a Russell sweatshirt, and they're always really nice.
In summary: before I thought this seemed like a really cool website; now I have seen their work first hand and recommend it highly.
Excellent. Looks like your wife is reading Scoop too.
I've placed a half dozen orders over the years .. good stuff. My kids love it. Just sent a couple of Assistant Coach shirts to my sisters..
