Happ was dominant, Markus couldn't buy a bucket. But Wojo sat Howard for a bit, adjusted how they doubled down on Happ and lo and behold a win for Marquette.
Oh, and EFFFF THE BADGERS!!!!
Wojo did a nice job today. That was a tough game and they were very hard to run an offense against.
Yep. D looked good. Credit to Wojo and the boys!

D looked GREAT without Markus.
Looked OK with him.
Great win boys!
How well Wojo is able to manage Markus will define our season.

Howard held Trice to 10 points, and 1-6 from 3. That's pretty good D.
Wojo has gotten through to them, D is much much better. Great win.
I was as anti-Wojo as anyone after the KU game, but he seemed very in control tonight. That was a very pleasant surprise.

I was specifically referring to the defense when Howard was out without about 10 left in the game. I don't think Wisconsin scored in that stretch, but not looking at game log right now :)

Agreed on that stretch. Phenomenal D during that period. Overall though in Wojo's favor a comment from the Badger board:
"MU decided to let Happ get his, and to take Trixe out of the game. Make their Other shooters peat them. Worked"
That plan isn't rocket science, but the hard part is getting players to execute it. MU executed it perfectly today.
We might be turning a corner. Grinded our a win against two #12 teams. Didn't even outshoot them

Badger Board comment is just wrong. I really don't think Marquette "let Happ get his". He was awesome and couldn't be stopped (much), but the D on the rest of the Badgers was great and it paid off. For this game, Happ > Howard but Marquette > Wiscy.
Buffalo game should be played first team to 100 wins.
Agreed. Good job, Coach.
And, congrats to the team.
I liked how Wojo subbed in the 2nd half. Liked the defense as a whole.
Hated that he couldn't run more set plays to get the ball to Sam/Joey for a 3 or in the high post.
If MU's offense can click they will be in good shape...can McEwen play point for them next year?
Was at the game and the effort was great. Solid coaching by Wojo. Great to build some momentum off the KState win.
Defense and rebounding was solid from start to finish. This is the toughness we lacked last year when we would just let Rowsey shoot us back into it.
Fortunately they can't make free throws either.

Yes regarding Koby. And he is very talented. Not sure about the defense but he has the athleticism if the effort is there

Any that haven't watched the McEwen Inside Marquette BBall episode should. Given pre-season reports, and his attitude, I think we'll be happy with him handling the rock next year.

I was frustrated during the Louisville game and said if Wojo didn't turn things around, 5 years was long enough. Well since that point he has completely turned things around. All credit to him.
I was his biggest supporter for 4 years, my frustration got the best of me, but after the UL OT win, the K-State blowout, and winning this game when Markus couldn't buy a hoop - I am 100% back on board. I was wrong, this program is absolutely pointed in the right direction and Wojo is growing as a coach before our eyes.
Go MU!

I actually think Wojos ability to elevate another big dog on O will define the season. That will both restrain Markus but also force flow in offense.
Joey your table is ready.
Ps great job today. Well timed double teams, good rotations, players staying home and helping each other on d. Great to see. If you play decent d it keeps you in most games.

Some similar thoughts for me. Wojo did a great job on the D tactics. Still some standing around on Offense...but good enough.
Happ is an excellent college hooper. Late in the 2nd I was worried the Badgers were going to throw to him in the blocks over and over and we wouldn't keep up. But we did.
Great adjustments by Wojo and the staff. Good to see Wojo turning to his staff repeatedly in TO to discuss options. Sign of a true leader.
Missed FTs were uncharacteristic. Lucky to get the W. Got some home cooking from the refs, nice to be on that side of things.
Overall great win against a very good Badgers team. Such an awesome rivalry.
Kudos to the coaching staff. A rivalry win is always sweet.
I can say I love winning allot more than loosng. Being wrong about Wojo is exactly what I hoped for but did not expect. What a a wonderfully pleasant error on my part. Should all my errors feel so good. I like them more than being right.
I appreciate that coach prioritized the Badger rivalry, we go balls to the walls for these games.
I appreciate the sentiments expressed here by many who had been critical of Wojo but now appreciate the way he has improved as a coach.
Overall a great execution by the team, which means the plan was there and adjustments made - so kudos to the players for 40 minutes of D and enough offense to win, and Wojo and staff for having the plan and making right choices. Great, meaningful win!
45 minutes :)

Yeah, I guess that's kind of what I meant, Markus is great and is going to (single-highhandedly) win us a bunch of games. But there will be other games this year that he could single-highhandedly lose us. Wojo has to have schemes in place to put Joey or Sam (or even Sacar?) in the feature.
I thought it was hugely ballsy (and well done) of Wojo to sit him for those 4 or 5 minutes in the 2nd half - and we got the lead back. But I have to admit, I almost wanted Wojo to keep him on the bench as long at that 5 was keeping a positive margin.
But let me say - was a great game to watch. We finally look like a *tough* team again. If we can keep playing like this it'll be a fun season.

And the first sentence of the article on ESPN is:
Brad Davison (http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4277993/brad-davison), Wisconsin's charge-drawing specialist, punctuated a wild Saturday in college basketball with a game-altering groin punch in a loss to rival Marquette.

Sam looks really pissed that Markus shot a lot, eh?
I've been pleased with how Wojo has managed things since Kansas. In both of our two losses, teams chased us off the three-point line and forced us to diversify the offense. We weren't able to effectively do that either time.
In the three wins of significance since, we haven't had any games where we really shot the three that well (below 40% against UL, KSU, UW-M) but we were able to find other ways to score the basketball. Against Louisville, we went inside a lot more. Kansas State, we kept attacking downhill, got inside, took advantage of some loose whistles, and were able to stop the second half run quickly. Against Wisconsin, we hammered them on second chance points. And our defense has been consistent throughout.
Not all of my nerves are settled yet, but I have to tip my cap to Wojo on finding ways to adjust offensively on a game-by-game basis when teams are clearly gameplanning to take Howard out of the game and to chase us off the three-point line.

Well said, and I agree with every word. We are not a one-dimensional offense any more. And for that matter, we are not a one-dimensional team any more because we can play a little D and rebound. And for that, the coach definitely deserves some credit. Maybe a ton of credit.
Was Markus trying to throw a lob to Morrow on that last shot in regulation? It appeared that he, Joe and Sam approaches Morrow before they got to the bench. Wasn't sure if that's why the shot was double clutched or slightly off
Great to see 45 minutes of toughness. WOJO has this developed this team substantially. The team is buying into defense and driving the basket to generate free throws. WOJO also for the first time in my memory looked like an elite game coach. Glad he is at Marquette.
