Texas-Ners is a young team. Should be a good tune up.

In general Scoop (and certainly including me) have been overlooking this team toward UW Saturday.

Of course it doesn't matter what scoop does or think...whether we overlook a trap game or not....its what Wojo and the team do.

BUT, it does have that feel doesn't it? Trap game, overlooked team of talented freshmen ready to surprise a major team with potential flaws.

its easy to say we should beat them...we will beat them...and look like the expert after we do. But UTEP is coming to play a basketball game. Hope we're ready.

Markus Howard is hitting a sizzling 89.8% from free throw line seems odd, because last year he shot 93.8%.

Does it bother anyone else when they call Joey a redshirt freshmen? I understand why they are doing that, but had he not enrolled in January he would be considered a true freshmen? It just seems to me that calling him a redshirt freshmen is down playing his accomplishments on the floor this season.

It doesn't bother me in the least.  Factually it is correct, and it is their job to be factually correct.  Not everything is a slight from the Media Intelligencia.

But really it just comes down to lazy reporting.   Evidence: Fisern Forum.

They just read the basic facts like redshirt freshman and run with it without really knowing anything deeper about it.   Reporters do a disservice to their readers through lazy reporting.

I guess it depends on the context then.

Is it a short presentation of facts?  For example,  "Joey Hauser will shoot two.  The redshirt freshman already has 10 free throw attempts in this game."  In this example, I'm totally fine with it just being a quick reference.

If there is a situation where Joey's backstory is warranted and there is time to explain the details, then it can definitely add to the broadcast.  But that doesn't mean it must be mentioned all the time either.

I'd agree with that!

In this case, being a game preview with scouting report for one of their biggest games of the year, it probably would have warranted further explanation though.

The writer got "Fiserv Forum" wrong not just once, but twice in the space of a few paragraphs.

Not a lot of information here, apart from the roster and basic stats. I like how Odigie is the only player whose weight is listed along with his height.

I guess Texans are spelling or typing skill challenged.

How is it "lazy reporting?"  It is a literal fact that he is a redshirt freshman.  He was on the roster last spring.

How?  Being a redshirt isn't a dishonor of any sort.

Hester Prynne would certainly beg to differ.
