Exact same thoughts so far.
I love when announcers say "there was no flagrant there" and then when the refs call a flagrant they say that it was the right call.
I'm watching with no sound so I have no idea what the call was, but I didn't see anything flagrant on that.
Ex-Trice, 35.2% eFG% for uw-madison in the first half per my quick math. Looking forward to playing both of these teams. Go X!
Yeah. It's early and both these teams can improve a lot, but watching this game it's hard not to think these teams will account for 3 Marquette wins.

New rule emphasis. Refs said that Happ hooked Hankins around the body. He did but it was light.

Haha—exactly. I can't count the number of times the announcers shout "that should be a flagrant 2........that ball went off of player Y" and the refs call is more times than not, not what the announcers said. Then they massage it down to get to the 'we both were right' line.
Xavier looks really bad, Wisky looks like Wisky. They'll win games by being patient and slowing down the game.
Happ, Trice, and Davison have combined for all 47 of Wisconsin's points. I don't know how Xavier can't figure this offense out. It's all Trice and Happ going back and forth.
Xavier looks very bad. I wouldn't be shocked at a 9th place finish for them this year.
Xavier is not good. Wisconsin looks better, no doubt.
I will say, Trice looks really good. Making shots and some great dishes.
UW looks good....executing and getting good looks or dunks.......X very bad......if they don't find a way to,improve on the perimeter it's going to be a long season for them.

Maui is going to be very, very bad for them.
Seriously, I don't know how X hasn't figured this out. The Badgers are going to pass around the perimeter until they can get it into Happ deep. From there he will either score or pass to Trice for an open three. If they can't get it to Happ, they will give it Davison and hope he can create something on his own. Deny Happ the ball, if he gets it, don't collapse with Trice's man. Make Davison beat you.
Xavier's offense appears to be "give it to Marshall or Goodin and hope they can create something." Not seeing much ball movement. I had the road game at X as a loss preseason, but from what I have seen so far, we should beat them twice easily.
X has a long way to go.
Jones gets called for an offensive foul, his third. Badgers take the ball down the court and he hacks a guy away from the ball to pick up his 4th foul. It looked intentional. Announcers are speculating that he did it on purpose to force Steele to take him out of the game. I certainly don't know what Jones was thinking but it looked like that's what happened. Really concerning if true
Somebody should have told Steele he is allowed to give help on Happ..........

Illini laying 9 to Gtown. Are the Hoyas that bad this year? Yikes.
X starts fouling Happ with 2 mins to go and make a couple free throws and it's a different game.
But they were bad tonight.
UW got 71 of 77 points from 3 players......they are going to need to find a little more balance to beat better teams......of course if Happ averages 31 a game they are probably going to be ok......

Will our guys be able to do just that?
If the Badgers are allowed to push all day with the off hand they'll bounce back nicely this year. Davison still loves laying on the hardwood floor.
Gtown is really quick and athletic. Think they'll be a tough out in Beast play. I hope we can handle the press as well as the Hoyas are doing tonight.

I just don't see how they could possibly keep up with the MU offense outside of a terrible shooting night. The only way they stay in the game at all is if our shooters are way off.
Happ is a good player, but they've had better players. I think if Wojo tells Theo some momma jokes, gets the war paint on him and turns the intimidation factor all the way up. I just don't think Happ has the toughness. Let Theo rack up the fouls, impact shots, and make Happ run the offense from the free throw line (career 56.8%).
I just don't see an opportunity for them to exploit our defense. No way we're going into this game with no plan for Davison's circus tricks. What's really left after that...?

Yep, it works. Until the refs don't hand him that call....he will exploit it all day.
If they scouted Illinois at all, they would know to play about 5 feet off of Ayo. Can't let him get to the rim.
This Illini-G Town game is a foul fest but refs just not calling it either way. Never seen so much hacking on both sides without half the game on the free throw line.

Fun game enjoying the competition among these young bucks.

Akinjo is nothing like Markus. He's a slashing guard who despite his performance tonight is a pass first guard. Markus is a shooting score first guard.
I think Ewing is going to get it done there. IMO a much more qualified coach than Mullin was.
And this was funny.

AGREED. One of the more enjoyable games to watch in quite a while. Sam Newberry (@Snewb22) had a great comment/description of this game: "The Georgetown/Illinois game snorted a line of coke in the bathroom, slammed three Jaegerbombs, and is now working its way through all of the Natty Lite it can before passing out."
Exactly! What a show that game was.
So, the Badger fans love the "Gator Chomp" as payback. Nothing is ever said that this has been a common practice for years now of the UW Student Section.

It would have been a more clever comeback for Davison to do the Florida State tomahawk chop at X since FSU knocked X off in the tourney last year. Florida had knocked on UW the year before, which is what prompted JP's gator chomp.
No, the chomp is what the UW student section does to the road team players.

The UW band used to play the theme from Jaws and the fans would clap accordingly. It has been done since at least the 70s. Used to be very prevalent at hockey games.
For instance, if a hockey puck went into the crowd and someone dropped it, the entire crowd used to do a quick "chomp" in fun.

And Bridges, and getting spanked at home. They have 13 points at three minute mark. Down 26.
Switch to Big Ten Network in 20 minutes and check out what Seton Hall is like. Heck, they lost all five starters.
Michigan is playing well. Villanova has missed about seven shots around the basket which is not helping matters.
Well if this continues the away team has won each game of the Gavitt Games so.....
The 'Nova game makes our game with Indiana all that more important for the BE. May be a very painful night.

60% and 1 turnover for Michigan........don't think Wright forgot how to coach in a few months so it must be the players.

Yikes. Big East is WAY down this year, as we all thought. Yet it appears its going to be even worse than anticipated. Wonder if by season's end we'll be better than Pac 12 or AAC?
On the plus side, this was all part of the Golden Power Point and 5-year plan!
This game is so bad that Raff isn't even calling the game anymore. He's interviewing a big Nova donor instead.

Do not blaspheme oh slapper of floors. The most holy of power points predicting a new Golden Age for the Big East which has been realized with the conquest by the Villanovans. Year 5 is for competing for the league title, not winning it. That most glorious of miracles isn't prophesied until year 6. So it was presented so it shall be!
Maybe we should consider waiting until we play our own first real game of the season before deciding we might be way better off than Nova, Xavier, etc.
Early season, November basketball means very little. Let's keep in mind that in December 2015 Oklahoma ran Nova out of the gym to the tune of a 23 point win. What happened 4 months later in the Final Four? Oh yeah, Nova beat Oklahoma by 44. Teams that are replacing their 3-4 best players (Xavier, Nova) might look ugly in a November game. Respect the process, they'll look much better come Big East play.
Who said we were way better?
You are right.....we could get rolled tonight.....we have had many good teams suffer blow out losses.
Including 1 in the final 4 iirc.......
All I was saying is it's going to take some time for this Nova team.......not just going to reload after all they lost.
Even with Jay Wright......
Nova with way too much dribbling. They are not moving the ball around like usual Nova teams. Seems to lack an obvious leader at this point.
I'm sure someone will step up.
Pretty sure they will be doing a lot of running tomorrow.
Pretty amazing streak about to end

I swear there were 8 minutes left in this game 25 minutes ago
I will give the Villanova crowd credit. Down this much and I see 3 open seats
gotta be a lot of 2 fisted sloppers there ein'a?
Are we still better than Nova?
Well Big Ten is 4-1 at this point. With 3 left, I would be shocked if Big Ten does not win at least one. So the floor is probably 5-3 for the Big Ten.
Creighton once down 12 making a run on Ohio State. Tied at 48.
Assuming OSU wins this, Big Ten now 5-1. Yeesh. Have to save some face now at least win the last two.
13-0 run to end the game for Ohio State. :(

I know many here would like to sulk about our loss further. However, if prior to the Gavitt games I told you that only 3 (?) big east teams would win their game, I doubt anybody would have guessed Georgetown, DePaul, and St. John's (?) as their three. I know, I'm being very presumptuous about STJ, they'll probably lose by 50 to Rutgers now....

Hard to judge the Big East yet, as many big non-conference games are still to come. Maybe the Big Ten is just strong this year. Iowa with a huge win over Oregon in MSG last night.

That's the point, there is no comparison only congruence. The current Big East Standings says it all being that it is the Big vs. the Big East. For some things a small sample size is sufficient.

Oregon is ranked on potential, they aren't the #13 team in the nation right now. This is a NIT team who only brought back one contributor with more than a year's experience and relies on freshmen and two grad transfers. Don't make Iowa's win more than it actually is.

Big 10 is up this season. Personally, I thought they would have a lot of teams in the 20-60 range but few true top contenders. After watching Michigan and Indiana I'm wondering if they could be those top teams. Not enough evidence to be sure but they both looked very good to me.

By the way, the Big East, in its current iteration, has two national titles in the last three years. The Big Ten hasn't won a title since 2000.
