Besides Marquette tipping off tonight a lot of great games tonight. At risk of starting another argument, really curious to see how good Grimes is.

agree
So many games I want to see. Trying to get some chores done around the crib, but can't get out of my seat.
Watching i4 right now. Race Thompson (I4) and Delshon Strickland (Chicago St.) are both D1 Minnesota alums. Del is dope (#2 for Chi St)
I'm trying to check in on our conference mates and future opponents as I can. Does Seton Hall really have less than 2,600 season ticket holders?
#2 Strickland doesn't belong on Chi St - he's way better, but has taken a different path to get here.. great to see him ballin out.
Here's a vid of him I took in 2013... woooooo.. I want him to do this on Langford

Giving Irvin the gig at Chicago St. was a really smart play. I'm sure you know because you're familiar with the AAU scene but the Irvin family are Chicago basketball royalty.
6 quick fouls on KU. I didn't see the first 5 min of the game but based on a total of 4 min of watching them (i'm sure that's statistically significant) they look exploitable on the drive.
Go ahead and move this to the 'NM' thread
We're probably going to miss the first 10 mins of MU games after Morgan St takes Nova into OT, heyner?
PS - glad I get to watch all MU games on TV from another (Big 10) state. Minnesota isn't on TV. uw-madison is available for pay only on BTN plus? Good grief. Every year there are many Gopher games with no TV broadcast. Just ridiculous.
Who had the bright idea to schedule Kansas. They look tough.
Watched first half of St. John's game.
Ponds and Heron, well, oh my. They are going to be some backcourt.
Ponds 2/6 from deep so far. 33.3% is EXTREME HEAT status for him.
Quentin Grimes is good. *sigh*
Nova looks very beatable and Gillespie just took quite a knock to the back of the head.
Kansas however...
Grimes jeeZ
Oh, FFS, the female MC just shouted, "Go Eagles! "
Come March, I'd like to avoid Duke as long as possible.
I've never seen a guy like Zion Williamson. There isn't a player comp that comes close. I'll be curious to see him at the next level, but he is going to be an absolute monster at the collegiate level.
Herro is playing well
Herro POY, #1 overall NBA draft pick for sure.

I hadn't watched any highlights of Zion before, and my god, he's like part Zach Randolph, part prime Tim Hardaway, part Jason Kidd, part prime Shawn Kemp. He's a unicorn for sure.
If you just enjoy college hoops, watch Duke this year just to see him play. Barrett and Reddish are dudes, but Williamson is a unicorn.
Glad MU didn't schedule Duke, too.

Nah we got this, Wojo taught K everything he knows.
I read that Zion has a 45" vertical (and he weighs 280!).

Simon and Figueroa too and Dixon off the bench. They may not have as much depth as others they have as much offensive firepower and anyone in the conference.
Zion Williamson is terrifying. Physically, if you put Charles Oakley and Lebron James in a blender and gave him the ups of Dominique Wilkins. With an utterly complete game. Inside, outside, handling with either hand. The next step in the evolution of a basketball player. Surrounded by an updated iteration of the the fab 5 playing for Coach K.
Or, at least, that is how it looked for one night against Kentucky on a neutral floor.
So, MU fans, MU has the season we all dream of and is now matched up against Duke in, say, the round of 16. A 1-4 match-up. How do you guard him?

Have Jim Chones sell him on the benefits of signing a pro contract in the middle of the season.

For perspective, Pat Connaughton was measured at 44" at the combine. Zion has actually been measured at 40.5".
Hamidou Diallo went 44.5" at the 2018 NBA draft combine for 2nd best ever passing Connaughton. A kid from Memphis holds the record at 46".
All that said, Zion looks a a mix of Barkley and Dominique.

Problem is they can handle him on the post but he's got the quickness of a guard as well as a serviceable outside shot and could easily breeze past Theo or Morrow if they had to guard him on the perimeter

4 Steals as well. Traci will be a force in the A-10. Project they will finish much better than KenPom's current forecast of 12th in A-10 and a 7-11 record.

After 1 game, coming off a 1.5 year layoff. Care to lay a side wager as to how Traci performs compared to Chartouney's last season in A-10? I'll take the over (on Traci) in all Pomeroy categories. $10 per category. Let's do it Tower.
Nobody cares about Traci, Ners. He's just some kid who decided he didn't want to play for MU anymore.

If it's the season I dream of, we see them first in the Elite 8. But it's tough. John might be strong enough to prevent Zion from going through him, though not sure he's quick enough. That puts Bailey on Barrett and Sam on Reddish. Or vice versa. Yeesht.
Honestly, I think you go zone. Theo or Matt in the middle told exclusively to be physical and guard the paint. Bailey to provide length. One of either Cain or Morrow on the floor at all times for rebounds. With Howard as the only little guy and so many long defenders, it's more realistic. Not sure it'd work, but I can't see a man scenario where we don't get eviscerated.

I was thinking zone, also. I would have started with Morrow on Zion if MU went man. I honestly don't think there is anyone on MU's team with the lateral quickness to stay in front of him. But Morrow has shown strength and toughness in the past so I would start with him.

I laid out my wager - across the board Joe C last year vs Traci C this year. Joe put up some solid numbers that will be tough to beat, notably Steal % and Assist Rate. Let's put $10 on every Pomeroy category. As it relates to shooting categories - $10 per on both shooting percentage AND actual makes (FTs, 2pt FG, 3pt FG), and since eFG% reigns supreme and is the most important factor toward a team winning, let's wager $100 on eFG%

Since this is apparently the thread to talk about former players, anyone got a clip of what Haani did to get ejected against MSU? From the recap it sounds like he was just trying to box out, and undercut a guy, and I feel like it would have to be a pretty obvious or severe undercut to get ejected, and Haani never struck me as a guy that would go out there and intentionally try to hurt someone.
http://tv5.espn.com/video/clip?id=25250242
Flagrant one? Sure. But to throw him out for that is kinda crazy.
It looks real bad, but it also looks unintentional. Haanie was just trying to box out but Ward tried to jump over him for the rebound.

You had said, "I'll take the over (on Traci) in all Pomeroy categories." to tower. I selected a few and offered a different bet. I understand now - you just think he'll be better in >50% of the categories; you don't at all think he's better in each.
Good to know; hope he can improve. Rough game Saturday in their home loss to Lafayette. They project to be a sub-500 team. Ouch.
I was watching the game on BTN. Was very shocked that resulted to be ejected for Haani.

So this basically negates an over the back call now that it's the boxing out defenders fault right?

In no way was that an over the back. The foul was correctly called with Ward going straight up and Haanif moving into his legs.
EDIT: One of the items that determines a Flagrant 2 is "The potential for injury resulting from the contact (e.g., a blow to the head or a foul committed while the player was in a vulnerable position)"
From that perspective, I can see why it was called the way it was.
Quote from: Galway Eagle on November 12, 2018, 10:00:30 AM

Eh...it was bad timing IMHO. Haanie was late getting to the box out and was looking at the ball, not at Ward. Ward had already started his jump by the time Haanie arrived. I don't know if Ward even saw Haanie coming towards him.
No malicious intent by Haani, but the proper call. Bad timing and bad luck. If Ward was still on the ground when he arrived, then it was a good box out. Ward elevated as Haani arrived and, yes, he undercut him.

Traci didn't have a great game against Lafayette. It's his 2nd game in 1.5 years. But for real dude - Traci's performance was VASTLY better than that freaking egg JC laid Saturday against an even worse Bethune Cookman team.
Clearly you don't feel JC is a better across the board player than Traci, or you'd have taken the bet I offered. But to your point, yes, I feel Traci is an across the board better player as in > 50% of categories...including the ever important eFG% (aren't you the guy who says that reign's supreme?)
I wish Traci had stayed. He didn't. He saw the future with Markus and Rowsey and did not see a lot of PG minutes at MU. I bear him no ill will. I am going to root for Chartouny more now because he is at MU. It is not possible for me to care less how Traci's stats this year stack up with Chartouny's from last year. Good luck, Traci.
