They just lost their exhibition to Grand Valley State.
Run them until they all puke Carolyn.
ruh-roh-what was the money line? :D
Spent a couple of years in Allendale working for the Lakers. I know a few of the staff there and I'm happy for them. Glad it didn't happen in a real game though.
Ugh. A team full of seniors doing that is not a good sign. Next year or the year after is supposed to be the down year, not this year!

Chick and I saw some evidence of 'We're good. We can mail this in.' last year. This is a bad sign for a team that needs to peak this year. Let's seriously hope that Kieger gets their head in it. I absolutely wouldn't want to be at today's practice.
If secret scrimmages cost teams seed lines imagine what this'll cost us! Seriously though I think this might be good. Teach them that they aren't world beaters without effort.
As JB pointed out, Le Moyne. This isn't a great sign, but ultimately has no bearing on the season. Their odds of winning the Big East, earning a high NCAA seed, and making a tourney run are no different now than they were before losing to GVSU.

What does Le Moyne mean? I don't following women's basketball often. Usually watch the MU v Depaul games and that it.

In 2009, Syracuse opened their season by losing to Division 2 Le Moyne in an exhibition. They went on to win the Big East regular season and earned a 1 seed in the NCAAs.

Oh wow I forgot about that. Didn't they lose to a Canadian team in 2012 before winning the Big East as well?
Grand Valley has a good women's basketball program. 26-7 last year, returning 4 starters, favored to win the GLIAC. They came to play. Grand Valley as an overall athletic program is always on the cusp of moving up, but the current thinking is they would rather be very successful as a DII power in a bunch of sports versus just another MAC school. So, nice win for GVSU. Wake up call for the MU ladies.

I've often wondered if a similar reason to this is why we never play either of Uw-Whitewater or UW-Stephens Point on the men's side. It'd be quite mortifying for us to lose to them.
I think you just answered your own question.

I think UW-Stevens Point was an exhibition when Diener was playing.

We played the Warwater Whitehawks in 2005.

This has happened more and more frequently, especially in men's hoops. But the team that lost still had good to excellent seasons. Auburn men lost to Barry last year, yet went 26-8 and tied for SEC title. Examples almost every year in the past several years.

65-78 in 05. A team with two soon to be NBA players that started 14-2 before Deiners injury had that many struggles against the D3 eventual champions.
I think that backs up why I don't think they play good D3 schools anymore.

It probably comes down to the D1 team overthinking things (i.e., the coaches wanting them work on specific sets, different combinations on the court, getting x-amount of paint touches, etc.), while the DIII school is just playing to win. Come the regular season, both teams are playing to win.
Taught dis wuz gonna bee 'nother thread 'bout "Me Two," hey?

When I was there 6 years ago, there were a lot of fans clamoring to move up to D1. There was absolutely zero interest by the administration to do so and I would imagine it's the same now. You make a ton more money being dominant at the D2 level than you do by being a run of the mill team in the MAC. I visited campus just last summer, it has grown a ton even in the few years I had been away. It's a solid growing school.

These are pretty much the same reasons why the WIAC schools have little interest in moving up to D2.

I'm convinced its collusion with UW. Keeps Wisconsin's walk on program strong.
Also, why is Parkside not in the WIAC?

History.
UW-Green Bay and UW-Parkside were part of the "University of Wisconsin System" when it merged with the "Wisconsin State University System" in the 70s. The State colleges, including Milwaukee for many years, were not only part of the same system but part of the same athletic conference. Milwaukee left to go to D1 on its own.
Parkside and GB were just never part of that mix. GB is obviously D1, but Parkside is sticking it out as D2. They believe it helps with their enrollment and recruiting, although I could make the case that it would get more prominent in-state coverage in the WIAC.

The WIAC has 4 teams ranked. Crazy. It would be fun to do an exhibition state tournament for charity where all the D3, D2 and D1 schools play. 99% it's MUvUW but it'd draw a crowd

Correct on all counts. What the casual fan there didn't (doesn't) realize is that when GVSU was winning multiple DII football championships, they were doing it on the backs of kids who had gone away to play football at DI schools and had some kind of issue, be it grades or homesickness, and come back near home to continue to play immediately. Most of the women's basketball team got offers from mid majors or better but chose a lower profile school for one reason or another.

Good stuff. Thanks. I would imagine being the only D2 in state does help them. ARe they any good in anything?
If you look at state's population I would bet Wisconsin is an anomaly in only having 1 D1 football team. Total advantage for Bucky.

I think they have been decent in a couple of sports. I'm not sure how much it helps them though.

Allendale is boring as hell with nothing to commend it other than the school. A bedroom community.
The men's team beat Lindenwood by two points last year. Exhibition games...

Well, in terms of "football states", that's probably true. Though I believe New Jersey has only 1 team (Rutgers) and New Jersey has a higher population. And I know Connecticut only has 1 (Uconn - heh, most people would laugh about them being "D1" as it is) but Connecticut is smaller than Wisconsin in population.
Obviously, football isn't as big in the northeastern states, and they don't produce as many players. Purely anecdotal of course, perhaps there is research that says otherwise, but I'm pretty sure Wisconsin produces way more college football players per capita.

Thanks, Rocky! I was "Mike D" of the Beasties for our HS Gong Show. Strutted out with a VW pendant around my neck straight from my best buddy's Volkswagen Rabbit. He played "MCA", the late Adam Yauch. In a strange twist, our "King AdRock" had a crush on Molly Ringwald too.
Sadaharu Oh had 868 home runs during his career in Japan.
Thought I knew every nuance about this video, but just spotted today the VoteForBellaAbzug! poolside demonstrator. Only the Beasties could fit a feminist civil rights attorney and politician into their fun, albeit slightly misogynistic, video.

I forgot until reading this that I'm pretty sure I spent the equivalent of several days during my tenure at MU trying to list out every sampled song/clip from Paul's Boutique. I didn't even come close.
It's somewhat disheartening to discover that you really can find anything on the fucking internet:
https://paulsboutique.info (https://paulsboutique.info)
I remember all the bros at MU who thought Paul's Boutique sucked at the time it was released. In retrospect, it is so much better than Licensed to Ill, which hasn't held up well.
