Thought we played alright for the first game, think the defense is improved, go warriors
My thoughts: I'll report back in about a week.
Tough to take much away. Chartouny always plays with his head up. Some of his passes were sublime. Definitely looks for his teammates. I also noted Markus seemed to be surveying the court more then looking for his own shot.
Thought Carroll played tough and just got overwhelmed. Was that David Gruber's other kid out there? They had a good fan turnout.
Early exhibition: rough in first half, better second. But 1 week is the real thing. I feel like we need 1 more tune-up game. But I guess that's what UMBC is for. Maybe the real thing is exactly what we need.
Noticed:
Joe C. - finding his role. finding his role.
Joey H. - also finding his role...if no one else is going to just do it, I am.
Sam H. - cold then warmer...........
Markus H. - We all know he can do it....just please, we want to see it...
Matt H. - same ole steady Matt. at his ceiling. Glad he's there.
Sacar A. - out-of-the-box ready to go.
Everyone Else - more cowbell
JH did remind me a ton of Ellenson last night. There was a play he started to take the ball up that I could've sworn it was Henry.

Joey looks much quicker than HE to me. But that's not seeing them side by side, of course. Joey is going to be a really good multi tool player.
Morrow looked good. Obviously subpar competition for him in the paint, but if he can make those little 8-12 foot floaters in the paint consistently, dear lord we're going to be good offensively.

I was wondering that as well. He was at the game for what it's worth.

Someone on twitter confirmed that it was NOT his son.

I was commenting most of the night that his game wasn't really what I expected from him. He was more content to take those short jumpers when I was expecting a back to the basket kind of guy. He even had a pretty wide open opportunity for a big dunk and ended up laying it in instead, which surprised me.
At the end of the day, as long as it's effective, the style doesn't matter. And it could very realistically be the case that he was working on weaker parts of his game because it was just an exhibition. But with his physique, I was definitely expecting more physical offensive play.

Yah his game reminded me a little of Gardner. He's only 6'7 so he's not some enormous banger. But I was pretty pleased with what I saw, and its evident he is going to help immensely on the boards.
Just looked at the box score for the first time, Carroll had 19 people play! Talk about a squad
Will Theo dress for tenet game?
The thing I looked the most was Morrows defense. Guy was always in the right position and moved well even when his man was away from the ball. We havent had that in awhile.
There were some ugly turnovers. 19 against Carroll is unacceptable

Exactly regarding Morrow's defense. He can actually move laterally and be well positioned, which is not something we've had any front court players be able to do in recent years.

Yep. All 19 of them can tell their grandkids that they played on the first college basketball game in the "new" arena 30-40 years from now.

By then, there will be another "new" arena just north of Juneau, right?
Speaking of physiques, Matt appeared to be significantly slimmed down. I was unable to ascertain from the little I watched if it had any impact on his game.

And a campus arena, hey?
