Thanks for the Link.
things that stuck out to me:
"The Friars are riding a school record of five straight NCAA Tournaments"
I guess I know this but a testament to Cooley's consistently good coaching and recruiting. Besides Nova, Providence a big reason the BE is and will be top tier.
Is there room for another MU player for all-BigEast honorable mention? Maybe Morrow or someone else shows up?
In the "Related Stories" section I noticed this: "Sam Hauser Tabbed Candidate For Julius Erving Award"
Obviously for his dunking ability...
Iirc Jay Wright made some comments over the summer about how he thinks Butler will win the Big East this season, so I think he was the one who picked Butler. I wonder which coach defected and picked us over Villanova.
I have Providence two spots lower and Creighton two spots higher otherwise it looks right to me. The All big East teams look right to me as well though I'd swap Hauser or Powell for Diallo on the first/second team.
At least we have earned the respect of the BEast coaches...next up the rest of the country.
1 first place vote, 5 second place votes, 3 third place votes

I wouldn't be surprised if it was McDermott ........MU has beaten Creighton 4 games in a row.

I'd bet on Cooley. You drop 52 on someone, they don't forget it quickly. Also worth noting that when PC came to Milwaukee, both Theo and Greg had career high's. Don't know how up to date other coaches are with our injuries, but you have to think that he has pretty high opinions of those two as well.

I think they might climb out this year. Leitao isn't a terrible coach, is starting to put together a more respectable roster, and teams like Seton Hall and Creighton could fall hard considering how much they lost.

Yes, I think Kevin Willard gets exposed this year, setting up the Willard Farewell Tour next season.
Coming to an arena near you!
So those two freshman are that much better than Joey or even Brendon?

Well Jahvon Quinerley is the only 5-star freshman in the Big East this season so he's a no brainer. David Duke is the second highest rated freshman coming into the Big East but he is only ranked a few spots above Joey. Personally, I think Joey's early enrollment should give him an early edge but there may be more early minutes available for Duke. The thing I keep coming back to with Providence is three point shooting. They lost all of their three point shooting to graduation and Duke is an athletic freak but shooting is consistently marked as a weakness of his game. If Providence throws five below average shooters out there I'm not sure they will be successful. Will be an interesting season in Providence.
Technically, is Joey even a newcomer?
Yeah Duke has a much easier path to big minutes and a large role at PC then Joey or Bailey have here.
I love this!!

KenPom.com picks DePaul to finish last in the Big East again, but projects them to win 6 conference games -- a feat they've managed just twice in the past 11 seasons.
In fact, the Blue Demons begin the 2018-19 season rated the 77th best team in the country. That's better than the bottom dwellers of several other power conferences: including Wake Forest (91), Georgia Tech (92) and Pitt (139) in the ACC, Illinois (85) and Rutgers (149) in the Big 10, and Mississippi (94) and Georgia (101) in the SEC.
In other words, the perennial league doormat may not be quite so easy to tromp on.
Talent wise this is the best DePaul team in a very long time. They are bit unbalanced with a ton of guards and wings and very little size in the frontcourt. If they answer their frontcourt questions, I think 6 Big East wins is very achievable for them. Maybe even more.
Jalen Coleman-Lands was pretty darn good his first two years at Illinois. Combine that with Markese Jacobs coming next year and it could be an interesting DePaul team.
But still, fire JLP.

As someone who grew up in Illinois, I have always sort of peripherally followed what the Illini were up to and could never figure out why they were usually not that great at basketball (or football, for that matter). Does anyone have any insight to this? Poor coaching/AD? Too much midwestern competition for recruits? Something else?
The opponent I enjoy watching MU play the most is Providence. Ed Cooley is an excellent coach and our games with Providence are usually very competitive and fun to watch. Having MU and Providence 2 and 3 preseason adds to this years appeal.

14th all time in wins and 16th all time in win percentage. Illinois fans just expect Indiana, Michigan, Michigan St, Ohio State success. They're more primed to be like UW.

Yeah, but almost entirely irrelevant since Dee Brown, Luther Head, and Deron Williams walked out the door. 3 NCAA wins since 2005 and no appearances since 2015.
With Chicago to draw from they SHOULD be good, but the same can be said for DePaul.

From the article:
Marquette was picked second in the poll, the highest preseason poll position for the Golden Eagles since they were tabbed for first in 2013-14.Uh-oh.

So it's more to do with outsized expectations? That makes sense. It seemed like they were always waiting to "wake a sleeping giant" and be the next North Carolina.

Yeah, this is more along the lines of what I was thinking of. Should be good, never quite are. There are lots of good players that come out of the state of Illinois and the Illini have a strong following -- at least with basketball, anyway.

Always interesting to me that people talk about the Chicago draw. How many city kids spend their life dreaming of going to a bufu town? I don't think the Illinois connection to kids in the state is as strong as say Wisconsin or Indiana.
That being said from 1981-2013 they had 25 appearances in 32 years, a few sweet sixteens and elite 8s with a FF, and a RU. Not exactly a blue blood era but it is success that most programs would wish for.

You hit a key point. Fightin Illini built their success through consistency over time. Coach Underwood will get the program back on track.

Agreed, just took a look at Creighton's schedule, I honestly wouldn't be shocked if they entered conference play with 5 or more losses, then opened the BEast schedule 1-7, and finished with 5-6 conference wins.
