Title: Marq'd Men Meet Coach Wojo
Post by: silverback on July 23, 2018, 02:19:11 PM
Jim McIlvaine and John Scott Lewinski with their Marq'd Men podcast will interview Coach Wojo this week. The crew at MUSCOOP are welcome to submit questions for the list. There's no guarantee any particular query will make it into the mix due to time constraints, but you never know.

Thanks. We'll update you when the episode goes live next week.

Hopefully a bunch of questions questioning if he truly believes that the historically horrible defenses he has put on the floor are really personnel related, as different personnel over the past 4 years has all been different shades of incredibly horrible, not just bad but worse than bad.  Could it be more than personnel?

When will you finally have the roster of thirteen 23-year-old seniors who all have 3 years of starting experience that you need to compete in the Big East?

I can but try. Either way, we'll have plenty to talk about tomorrow.

Defense was average years one and two. It was horrible in years three and four....which happens to be when Rowsey and Howard came on board.

Question 1: Does MU have the capability to access and/or analyze the SportVU data?  If so, how helpful has it been?  If not, perhaps a student (say, with the help of a prof) from MU's newly-minted data science program could help.

Question 2: What differences in recruiting have you noticed in switching from PowerPoint 2013 to PowerPoint 2016?

I remember a bunch of us here were excited about the prospects of the SportVU stuff.  And then we never heard about since.  I really do wonder if MU lacks the technical expertise to analyze those troves of data (assuming the Bucks actually let MU use it).

Come on. We all want to know how many wins MU will get this season.

I want to know if he agrees with the handful of Scoopers who think he should have won the national title in 2014-15 with the fine group of studs that Buzz left behind and therefore already should have been fired.

You mean anyone disagrees with the fact that 2014-2015 was the biggest disappointment since Jim Chones left?

Or, since we lost to Miami of Hicksville in 1978?

What's Wojo's neck size, and has it shrunk since his playing days?

Here is my question:

Remember...remember...that time when Dwyane Wade...he had a triple double to beat Kentucky to get MU to the Final Four?  Remember? That was awesome!

Rumor has it that his favorite is curley fries dipped in horsey sauce.

I want to know if he agrees with the handful of Scoopers who think his success at MU has already surpassed Al McGuire's and therefore should have been given a lifetime contract extension.

14-15 was the biggest disappointment? Not 13-14 going from top 25 to no postseason? 09-10 against washington? 08-09 choking against Missouri? (Or just James injury in general) 07-08 against Stanford? Travis getting injured when we were a one loss team to bowing out in the NIT?

The last couple of years have been frustrating from a defensive standpoint.  What is your core defensive philosophy?  In your opinion, where was the disconnect between what you were trying to accomplish and what happened?  Is it as simple as lack of size and lack of experience?

Why is he losing 5-star recruits to bottom barrel programs like Kansas and Kentucky.

Conversely, is he re-thinking that strategy?  Hard to get 5 stars unless they are  close to home or have a special connection to MU or the staff.

Why did he let Henry get away with only getting the easy rebounds and does he think that why he has not turned into a starter on the Pistons?

Who is this Al McGuire fellow? Was he anywhere near as good a coach as Wojo?

Ex bouncer/ballplayer. Didn't have Wojo's cool/personality/coaching chops but some of the old timers remember him fondly.

The same people who are surprised that McCartney was in a band before the Wings are probably surprised to learn that Al wasn't always a broadcaster.
