Title: CRACKED SIDEWALKS 48 More Impact Transfers: MU (corrected) back in 2nd
Post by: auburnmarquette on May 27, 2018, 02:43:20 AM
(Due to catches on Thomas hiring an agent and Mahoney sitting out a year, Creighton drops back below MU)

I last wrote here about Joe Cremo's visit to Villanova - and not only did he sign there but Denzil Mahoney signed with Creighton several days later to get the Big East the top two Value Add pick-ups of the last several weeks. After business travel kept me from home for 26 of 28 consecutive days I finally returned to make hundreds of updates to the Value Add google doc and I will hope to have www.valueaddbasketball.com updated to correspond during the 3-day weekend.

Creighton's pick-up of Mahoney will move their projection ahead of Marquette to leave us third in the Big East - but Villanova and Creighton are waiting to see if players go to the NBA while Marquette is set. The following are the 48 players worth at least 2 more points per game who signed and/or left teams - or at least appear to be headed to a team if so noted - since Marquette completed its roster.

Rank, May Announcements, 2019 TEAM, Value Add, Notes

65, Joe Cremo #24, Villanova, 7.06, transfer from Albany^ SG

139, Denzel Mahoney #34, Creighton, 6.23, transfer from Southeast Missouri State SF

These and the next best 46 impact transfers are listed in table form on cracked sidewalks:

Denzel Mahoney has to sit out next season so his added value doesn't move Creighton anywhere next season. Combine that with Thomas declaring and I don't see Creighton anywhere near third. If my math is correct, their value add for next season is 26.08, 8th in the Big East ahead of Seton Hall and DePaul.

Creighton is going to suck next year. I predict we push our winning streak against them to 7.

Curious and not trying to be a wise-arse at all (because I really don't know): How accurately did your scoring system predict this past season's Big East standings and tournament teams?

Reid Travis from Stanford has withdrawn from the draft and will now be a grad transfer.  Someone is going to jump way up on that list when he signs.

Maybe the Sacar connection can help the MU cause.

God it'd be great to have an open scholly right now.

Would be huge but i think it'd be better for 19-20 if we let Joey and Morrow get their time down low rather than have one year of a star that's gone the next.

Looks like Kentucky is the frontrunner for Travis.

And what is Happ waiting for?  Need to know if I got to get my popcorn ready.

Poor Stanford. Thought this could be the year that they finally broke through and got back in the tourney. Now they will be lucky to be in the top 100.

Whoever gets Travis is getting a huge talent. If Kentucky lands him...and their declared trio all decide to return for another year....and Ashton Hagans reclassifies...That might be the deepest Kentucky squad ever.

Put this list in the BE Farewell thread too but this topic is drifting to those beyond the BE.  Staying, going and TBD

Happ is coming back. Just announced by Woelful that he has withdrawn from the draft.

Am I reading this correctly that Losing Spellman & DD brings Nova below MU?

Not quite. When a team has an open roster spot, Value Add gives them a small point boost in order to balance out teams who might have a ton mediocre players. I think each open roster spot is worth like 2.5 points. So while Villanova loses like 15 points from OS and DD's departures, I think they gain about 5 for adding two open roster spots.

This is the same phenomenon that caused Marquette to lose points when they signed McEwen. He adds 0 points for the next season and takes away a roster spot so Marquette lost a couple of points.

Auburn, correct me if I'm wrong.

Interesting... thanks

Maybe we'll be slightly favored or a push at home against them then? I'll take it!

As rosters currently stand, I would expect to be slight home favorites over Nova.
