Title: WSJ - Where Graduates Move to After College
Post by: Disco Hippie on May 24, 2018, 12:16:47 PM
Pretty fascinating interactive map on WSJ.com where you can plug in data from over 400 schools.  Unfortunately it's behind a subscription wall but for scoopers who are WSJ subs, this is pretty interesting.  I attached a rough PDF for those who aren't with most of the content although not all the graphics transferred and obviously not the interactive features.  I plugged in our school and it's on page 8 of the attached PDF.

surprised that houston was number 3.

no one is going to New England, as there are no jobs for grads of a high acceptance rate college there.

Many years ago, as we were trying to get the Marquette Club of Houston up and running (I was the initial Pres.), ...MU gave us an alumni directory, which we split up, with each of us cold calling/updating info on MU grads in Houston.

General patterns emerged:

The earliest big influx of MU grads were engineering guys heading to Nasa in the mid 60s ....70% plus were NASA guys

Lots of medical types through the late 60s early 70s headed to our Medical Center...about 40%

Percentage wise...few actually ended up in the energy business...MU lacks a petroleum engineering major lol ....less than 10%

From mid 70s to late 80s (when we did the directory) there was a broad range(...engineers, law, business, nursing, ...)spectrum of young professionals coming from MU to Htown

My guess is our draw now for MU continues across many areas/
Broad range of professions.

I came just to root for the Astros/Rockets/Oilers  lol

If you ever want to bypass a paywall .. do this:

Copy the WSJ link above .. then go to Facebook and paste the URL into Facebook's search.  You'll find a link for the story.  Click it and you're done.

(Sometimes this works for Google, just tried it and it failed.)
