Just a random question/thought. Why is it that conversationcompletely fell of the map ever since the Scout website (MU Scout) became part of 247sports? I like all the boards and just hadn't visit that one in awhile. I was shocked that there were so few responses to every thread.
Paid recruiting sites don't really have anything to offer that's better than what you can get for free here and other places.

That's not always the case. Paid MU sites had a ton of value under Buzz and Crean. Wojo and company run a very tight ship and haven't brought the local media in the way those coaches did, while MU's PR has also made it tougher for the old heads to develop relationships with the staff. I have no doubt those types of sites have just as much value elsewhere, but agree that they aren't as differentiated here.
Another reason for lack of visible traffic, though, is that most conversations on sites with paywalls takes place behind the paywall. On BCB I would guess 75% of all MU discussion takes place behind the wall. I'd imagine Dodds is the same.
I got tired of the board where dissenting opinions were shouted down or banned by the mod. I tend to be very positive and complimentary about the MU program and don't like personal attacks on players. But a particular mod took the B&G kool-aid too far IMHO. Legitimate disagreements and discussion were killed, so I left.

I browse over there at times and laugh. Anyone that says anything remotely negative about MU hoops, players, etc. is just over the top disgraced by Dodds. Never is MU bad, always the "they are young" excuses, injury excuses and the like.
The worse thing he does is his comparison of players with his "blender" comments. He compares current players and recruits to former college players who played 40 years ago. Put Dave Meyers and Junior Bridgeman in a blender and you get________. Just crazy.

Yep. I have two major issues. One, the ads kill that site. In addition, the moderator has no tolerance for opposing points of view. After all, rebuilds are a bitch.
I'd never really cared to go over there, but read a few threads just out of curiosity. Wow. Dodds has a healthy 97,000 posts. I'd say thats a pretty heavy-handed approach.
I truly could not bear to read much more after a few threads, that guy definitely has a taste for his own farts.
Don't know the links. Don't need to. Scoop for life.

I'm thinking empty wine glasses and hybrids.
The Dodds board will have some good posts from time to time . However, Dodds will accept no dissenting opinions. So it is hard to really engage in anything meaningful
The only real positive thing about that board is Dodds interviews with players and coaches, as he works hard to get original content that is interesting to the MU basketball fan.
Hmmm i happen to like John Dodd's and his board alot......i dont think he heavy handed at all.
I love his levity....pretty spot on analysis and memory second to none.
Too many sensitive posters...grow a pair.

Also whats the value on knowing something hours before anyone else in some case or in others hours after anyone else. It like a club if u wanna pay to feel cool for zero value... go for it.

Yes true but he is without question the worst interviewer of all time so any interview leaves u feeling like what a waste
Let's just say that the other boards don't have the meats.
I read both boards. I think Dodds site gets more recruiting information and "tidbits". He seems to get more insight in the space. He also produces more original content and receives content from the national level. This comes outside the forums. The gated forum itself has good info but most of the value comes from player profiles produced nationally. Dodds used to get lots of info from Mark Miller and Jim Ganzer but they started their own things. IlBullseye also gave him good stuff but that ended as well. They also did a rebrand through Scout that made the site unusable.
Muscoop gets more of the rumors which Dodds won't allow posted and more active discussion. MUscoop also has a more open free forum which encourages conversation. That is a good thing but it also leads to rehash of the same topics across threads.
As you can tell Dodds is a polarizing person but has always been standup to me.
I think there is a natural swing. Rivals used to be the place to go and then the cesspool of Marquette trolls made it unreadable and true basketball folks when to Dodds site. Then the troop cesspool moved there and people started to leave as MUScoop came onboard to talk hoops. There also seemed to be a younger vibe of current students who got info from campus.
Brew city doesn't have anything to discuss on a regular basis. Most posted as several days a part.

BCB has virtually all their traffic on the private board. There are currently 15 active threads (posts in last 2 days) in there, and Mark Miller still posts any info he gets there. I'm sure I'm not the only regular user that sometimes goes weeks without even looking at the free forum.

Agreed. BCB pay sight is free of any of the cat fighting that goes on on other boards and has a ton of great discussions and topics about MU and hoops. Mark Miller shares some nuggets from time to time as well. Well worth the almost negligible cost.

Yes he interviews them. But they are almost never informative. My impression of the typical interview:
Dodds: You put on a lot of muscle, have you been working out?
Player: Yes my goal is to put on weight
Dodds: Todd Smith works you guys hard, huh?
Player: Yep

This is well said. I mentioned to Dodds in a few PM's that I understood the challenging nature of his position in moderating that board, AND being so close to the program in the way of game day operations, etc. Furthermore, his identity is KNOWN, and as a result, I know if I were in his position, I too would have a hard time being objective/critical of the program.
The anonymity most enjoy here allows for real opinions to be voiced - and most here aren't directly tied to the program in the way of game day operations. I have no doubt my takes would be far different if I were still involved/close to the program as I was back in the 90s - and my identity was known.
So, I can understand how it is really hard for Dodds to NOT censor criticism of the program, coach, etc.
Where da Dodds' ban tag proudly. Its a sign of intelligence, aina?

It does suffer from a bit of groupthink however. And an over-obsession with UW.

Wojo and team don't leak info, or seek to burnish their brand as the last two fellas did.

All respect to Dodds. He and Mike Juno started this community ~15ish years ago. He runs a tight ship.
MUScoop's ship floats on an ocean of Arby's Sauce, and people find that delicious.
The thing that has made that board markedly improved.....
The Subscription gets you into the Premium boards of every other team.....and also access to all NFL boards.....
Every board has different rules.....Some you can post on.....Some you can't.....But to be able to read the insider info posts of other schools is pretty nice.....
I have been banned by 4 over the years.....A who's who......Kentucky.....Louisville....N.C....Kansas.....
Surprisingly I am still alive on Wisconsin and Syracuse......
He banned me for quoting Anthony Scaramucci. You can make bigoted and sexist remarks all day long over there but don't use any naughty words.
Its pretty obvious that Dodds is not the sharpest pencil in the box.

The only board I've been banned from is the UW board. It was the day Vander committed to MU, and it was totally worth it! No regrets.
I still check out Dodd's board from time to time. Not much going on over there these days.

Exactly.
About 10 or 12 years ago I used to post video highlights on Scoop after the game. This was before you could find them everywhere. Dodds threatened me with some copyright infringement bull$hit, however, said he could get the appropriate permission and I could post them on his site.
I declined and have held a strong dislike for him ever since.

True, but Dodds jumped in the same night. I was banned, then reinstated, three times that evening, all for having the temerity of politely pointing out to him that perhaps he should have waited a bit before promulgating a mistake. Haven't been back.
Fook 'em, hey?
