Title: Nice article on Henry from NBA.com
Post by: GooooMarquette on March 31, 2018, 12:53:29 PM
The folks who drafted Ellenson and those who coach him every day love everything about the Pistons youngest player – his potential, his work ethic, the way he's kept his head on straight and his heart in the right place through a season that's provided precious little opportunity for playing time. Coaches always root for their guys to do well because doing well benefits everyone. But there's a palpable and genuine affection for Ellenson from the staff and his teammates and an appreciation for the way he's rooted for everyone else's successes.

He wasn't ready for the show when he left Marquette. Period.

They money was good, yes, but he probably would have been better off with another year in college and working on his game. I suspect he would have made the lost opportunity up over a few years.

I do hope he does well. Seems like a great kid.

Stop.  He is working on his game every day and getting paid to do it.  He's still the youngest player on the team.

Yup. He could sit in class making no money or he could be in the gym as much as he wants and rolling around in cash. Tough call.

I've seen a few studies on this.  Based on that data, statistically you are wrong, and the athlete is better off leaving earlier.

Agree.

I hated to see him quit college after one year.  He is missing out on a lot of fun and learning experiences. Someday he may regret his decision.

Yeah I'm sure he's having no fun whatsoever.

Quit? He got promoted and the reward was generational wealth.

No regrets, except from petty MU fans.

Wasn't ready, but still made the right call.  That draft class wasn't very good and 2014 was very good, he made the right choice.

He definitely made the right call. His draft stock was at its peak the year he came out.  He has been working his butt off and is a good teammate and he got rewarded by Detroit picking up the option year on his contract. SVG is pretty hard on young players so hopefully he can persevere .

Not petty. But do have an opinion.

I don't claim it is fact nor do I blame him for taking the money.

When I was 19, had someone offered me millions, I'd probably have taken it too.

Again, he is a good kid and I wish him well.

I've read that many scouts think next years' draft class is pretty weak.  Might see some guys stay in school another year to take advantage of it.

Henry made the right decision.  The class after him was loaded - he might not have gone in the first round.

You are certainly a sarcastic fellow.
