Title: GT vs. Pitt
Post by: SoCalEagle on January 14, 2008, 06:48:47 PM
GT down by 1 at the half.  Hibbert with only one field goal in the first half.  Should be a good second half.

Very low scoring first half.  I expect to see more from Hibbert offensively second half and GTown wins by 5.

Two interesting stats at the end of the half...

Offensive Rebounds:
Georgetown 1
Pitt 11

Shooting Percentage:
GT: 50%
Pitt: 33%

I see a good second half on the way.

Georgetown can be rebounded on, even though everyone talks about the size of Hibbert, if Marquette can aggressively crash the boards, including the guards, can make up for the 7-2 fella.

Pitt winning handily.

They look pretty good.  Gtown looks flat.

I guess it's only 5 . . . anything could happen, don't want to jinx it.

Benjamin plays a bit like D James

The game is Pitt's now... 13 points with 50 left... no team is going 18-0 in the Big East, what a shocker!  (sarcasm now off)

Watching this game, it scares me that we might not have answers to Blair and Hibbert.

I seriously think that Trend could matchup well against Hibbert.  I think he could outplay him given Hibbert's lack of strength.

Blair scares me more than Hibbert.  That man is a manbeast.

That's the second time I saw Hibbert this year, and he has digressed. Blair is a force, he could very easily be one-and-done.

Tip of the hat to Dixon and his coaching through some major injuries--I thought they were done.  Blair is huge...and Benjamin has stepped up.  Young is tough as always.  That said, they are not deep and will struggle on the road--especially if Blair gets into foul trouble.

I have seen a lot of Georgetown this year.  Their guard play has not been strong.  Wallace is trying to do too much--and no one else has stepped up.  Summers is no Green.  If we pressure the ball, they will have trouble setting up Hibbert in the Princeton O if they are already 10 seconds into the shot clock in their slow developing sets.  We match up well with them on 4 of 5 positions.

Plus, the schedule is in our favor as we play each only once--at home.  That is a huge edge for us.

I am worried that we are going to get KILLED on the glass when we play pitt...they always seemed to have someone get their hands on the ball.

If we get on those boards like our guys did against ND, then I'm not worried at all.  If we play like we did against WVU, then yeah, we'll get slaughtered... by atleast half the Big East.

PITT is the best team in the BE

The more I watch Georgetown, the less I am impressed with them.  Hibbert is good, yes, but their guards are average, and they would have no prayer against us if we pushed the tempo.  We showed the blueprint of how to beat a team with a great big man this Saturday against ND.  Let Hibbert get his points, but shut down their guards, and we will beat the Hoyas at home, and I think by around ten or so.

Pitt, on the other hand, is playing really well considering their injuries.  Fortunately for MU, we have them at home, and we know that the crowd will be into that one, as will the team, since it is a rivalry game.

We do luck out having both of these teams only once, and both at home.

Any chance we get Kinsella back for those games?

Pitt plays poorly against guard-oriented teams.  Its no surprise that their losses to Dayton and Villanova--given our style of play and strength at the guard spot, I'm not worried about them.

As for Georgetown, perhaps they'll pass a major test sometime this year.  So far, their best win is over an NCAA bubble team (UConn) at home.

And it took a Roy Hibbard three-pointer at the buzzer to get that win.

I think we should be very thankful that we get both of these teams at home.  I'm very surprised with how well Pitt is doing.  I had them going to the NIT after losing two of their top players, but they're instead contending for the BE title.

Again,
I have not been impressed with GT at all this year from their SEC/BE challenge game vs. Alabama to the Memphis game.  They just seem slow and at times sloppy.  They I don't think they necessarily shoot the ball well but are able to get a lot of easy looks out of their offense.  If you can keep them in front of you they tend to not shoot a high percentage. (maybe obvious but just an observation)  And on defense I think they are very succeptible to dribble penetration.
It's a good thing Hibbert is 7' 2" or else he'd have a difficutlt time playing on a JV team somewhere.  He just seems so slow and not nearly as active as Harangody.  Anyways, that's my rant.  I've thought GT is extremely overrated and I don't understand why everyone thinks they're a lock for the Final 4.  With Summers gone I don't think they can compete with some of the more athletic teams in the tournament. I agree, I think we are very lucky the schedule fell into place like that this year

we were always able to compete with Pitt due to their slow prodding defense led by Gray. Pitt is much faster & more physical this year.

IIRC, didn't ND outrebound us by 10?  I'm not saying Georgetown isn't beatable, but outrebounding them is a very tall task.
