Glad he is here, but can understand him missing the chance to win another state title.

My guess is not actually participating in basketball drills doesn't help.
During shootaround before the Harvard game, Joey was standing near half court with Ike and Ed. Joey was the only one of the three with a basketball in his hands, and kept spinning/mock "shooting" it to himself. You could tell it killed him not to be out there playing.
He is an awfully young kid away from home for the first time. Homesickness is part of it. Having Sam close by helps, I am sure.

About 2.5 hrs
not horrible. at least he does not have to jump on a plane.
Speaking from my experience I never recall missing high school. I was like a pig in s**t when I attended MU. Hope joey starts feeling better
Well at least we know he'll be solid from the free throw line next year
"What could have been" for his senior year is an understandably tough pill to swallow. What a run before that though.

I didn't miss high school, but I did miss home at first. By my second semester freshman year, I was all about Marquette, though. I was having too much fun to think about home anymore!
Wojo hit it on the head. He should have gone down as one of the best ever. Think of this resume:
4 state titles (All as a starter)
3 time All State
Mr. Basketball
Who can top that?

First semester I went home four times. I don't think I went home four times the next seven semesters.
When It first came out that Joey was accelerating his matriculation I posted that it was a) good for MU but b) potentially not good for Joey the person. Like I said everything has its place in life and giving up your senior year in high school is something you can't get back.

I was super homesick the first few weeks, but I didn't miss high school at all. I couldn't shake the nerd/geek label in HS, but no one at Marquette knew about it. It was a great opportunity to rebrand myself.

Look at it this way, you were ahead of your time, today the nerd/geeks are in the in crowd.

College is awesome for a bazillion reasons, and this is one of the biggies.
No wonder you went on to become such a super groovy chickadee!!

Ditto and I was no great fan of Nashville at the time either. I had good friends there but I could take it or leave it.
Milwaukee was so much fun and in many ways, so liberating!

After nickel beer night at Good Time Charlie's and visiting the floor below us in Schroeder, there was no homesickness. I'll bet you a quarter Joey is having the time of his life.

Was there another kind of sickness involved?

And it's just not being away from home. It's the suddenness. Kid was a senior one day and to a certain extent, just flipped a switch to college. There's a lot that he gave up to make this happen. Missing that is to be expected.

Nashville is very cool now, but in 1980, I couldn't wait to get out of there.
I did miss my family a lot at first, though.

I missed my friends. But I needed to get out on my own and in the 1970s and early 1980s, Nashville was the Bubba Capital of the known universe!
Being the youngest and having my siblings way done with college, my parents dropped me at McCormick's doorstep. I was eager to get going on my own without the shadow of them my entire life. Similarly, I was sure that my parents were more than happy to finally be empty nesters.
As I was retrieving my luggage, my dad whispers to me: "Do me a favor, don't be so eager and ask your mom up to your dorm room to make your bed".

Joey currently rooms with Harry. Does this mean that Harry is leaving or do they just switch up rooming assignment every year and I should take off my tinfoil hat?

I don't think one is related to the other but that doesnt mean the other isnt a thing
