The Selection Show will be on TBS this year. Also, they will be announcing the 68 teams in alphabetical order, then showing the brackets.
They really know how to screw up a good thing.
-
Alphabetical order?
What numb-nuts came up with that idea? Yikes!
Well, at least F%cky fans will think there's a chance right down to the bitter end!
-
But why?
-
Stretch it out. Sell more ads.
-
That might be even dumber than the Big 10 playing at MSG.
Seriously, how does the guy that comes up with that at a meeting not get fired on the spot?
-
That is he dumbest thing I have ever heard. They ruined a sacred holiday.
How much you wanna bet the bracket gets leaked again this year after this change?
-
Yeah, this is an "old television" move in a "new media" era. It's really dumb.
-
Don't they realize how many people are going to switch off the minute they pass their favorite team in the alphabet?
At least when they went bracket by bracket, you would have fans holding out until the bitter end, hoping against hope....
-
Man, that's gonna be a rough hour for the Temple and Washington fans

The best was a few years ago when they tried to do analysis region by region making everyone wait. So someone leaked the bracket
Mods - didn't see the superbar post discussing the same. Please move.
-
And FYI, it's a 2 hour show again this year....there will be blood in the water again.

All 68 will be out in the first 15 minutes.

Do you have a link where they specifically state this? The couple articles I have looked up (including Nielson's) don't seem to indicate any significant changeup specifically. But yeah, agree it would be ridiculous if true.
-
Actually, I have no problem with announcing the 68 teams in the field first. For teams right on the bubble you get the suspense out of the way early instead of suffering through each region as it is announced and analyzed.

I rather have the suspense makes it more exciting
-
I like it, but it seems like a poor idea from a ratings perspective.
-
I'm fine with announcing all 68 teams up front and then going to the bracket.... most people are going to stick around to see where teams are seeded, placed, match-ups, etc. It would certainly be better for the collective heart health of the country, especially in these parts.
2 hours seems a bit long, however.

Agree with all of this.
I'm staring to get really scared, though, what with all this change and stuff.

I think the suspense is greater in the previous format. I’d value that more than knowing if MU is in or out in the first 15 minutes via an alphabetical list.
-
Last year was fine. Went seeding a region, commercial break, 30 second talk about the region, next region, break, etc. Then they went into analysis for the last hour.

They should throw in additional suspense by using random descriptors for each team in terms of the alphabetical order. Like for Marquette, instead of being classified under M, they could use:
Warriors, from Marquette University (under W).

I was thinking founding year.
"we're f'ed! Lipscomb was founded int 1891 and we were founded in 1881"
"honey, how do you know that?"
*hides listing it took 4 hours to compile*
"uummm.....common knowledge. How do you not know that?"
