Our guy is now at .521 from downtown. He trails Connor Burchfield of William & Mary by 0.1%.
It would be cool to have the NCAA leader in that stat for 2 straight years. Come on, Sam!
I saw the title and almost reflexively said 'Thoughts and prayers.'
Sam is shooting well.

Can you change the title to Sams 3 Point Shooting. You are scaring the children with that title.

Especially because it would be with two players.....and both are only sophomores. Pretty remarkable.

Good selling point to Hagens....lots o' dimes to drop.
I'd be happy to change the title. How do I do it?
Through last night, Sam is third at 52.1% behind Winston at MSU (56.5%) and Masterson at Kenneshaw State (55.1%). Minimum 40% of minutes and at least two treys per game. He is #1 in conference at 54.4%.

well might be an understatement
You guys need to quit watching so much news. Shooting should not need a qualifier on a basketball message board.

Nope, that's not how it works... see:

As much as I love Sam's shooting, I am really liking it when he posts up.
Took my stats directly from the NCAA site:
https://www.ncaa.com/stats/basketball-men/d1/current/individual/143
Burchfield 52.2% ... Sam 52.1% ... Wolford 49.5% ... Mathis 49.4%
"Min. 2.5 made per game. Players must play in 75% of their team's games"
Through games of February 27, 2018.

There is a joke in here somewhere....
Sam is also basically #3 in offensive rating in the NCAA. #1 and #3 are low offensive usage post players. Take a guess at who #1 is.

If you look at my link above (nh), Sam is only in second because Burchfield went off against non-NCAA teams. So dumb

Thanks for that link, JB. Yeah, that blows.
Sam still can beat him anyway!

To quantify this:
Burchfield went 8-10 in two games against non-D1 opponents. That puts his 3P% at 50.3% against D1 opponents. Still impressive, still puts him in second place, but his D1% is 1.9% below Sammy's. Sam also has a few more attempts than Burchfield. Hopefully Sammy keeps stroking and takes his rightful place at the top.
Fun tidbit, Burchfield went 10/12 from deep against Marshall early in the season. I think this is fun because Marshall owns the top spot and is tied for the 2nd spot for most three pointers in a game by an individual. Keith Vaney hit 15 against Morehead State in 1996 and Ronald Blackshear hit 14 against Akron in 2002.

Didn't we recruit Winston or am I mis-remembering?

Your stats are fine - they just #NoMatta when it comes to the NCAA awards. You're using minimums that don't matter to the NCAA plaque system.

So everyone is technically correct. Cassius Winston is at 56.5%, but he only makes 2.3 makes per game, that is below the 2.5 cutoff, but is still enough so that he has made 70 3's this season.
Masterson is at 54.1%, but is at 2.4 makes per game, enough for 73 made 3's, but below the 2.5 cutoff the NCAA uses.
Yes, the NCAA is the official stat keeper, and they use the 2.5 cutoff, so that is the important value for the NCAA awards.
Regardless, Sam is killing it and it'll be great if he can pull off the top spot in the NCAA rankings.
