I was looking around YouTube to see if there was something up suggesting tomorrow's St. John's game would be on, when I stumbled across our win against Nova last year.
It's still hard to believe we won the game!
We missed a bazillion free throws, Markus was scoreless and fouled out, right in the middle of our comeback JJJ threw a pass that was picked off for a dunk, etc. And yet we still won.
It was amazing how many early-shot-clock 3s Villanova took - and they missed them all down the stretch. In his interview after the game, Wojo said, "If we're to be honest, we caught Villanova on a poor-shooting night."
Here was our lineup on the court for the last 5 minutes: Katin, JJJ, Duane, Haani, Sam. One year later, only one of them is still around.
So much fun to watch the students storm the court again.

No. Not difficult to believe. And... #FTsNoMatta.
We won because we shot significantly better than Nova. Simple as that (as most games are won by the team who shoots better.. eFG% Reigns Supreme).
Marquette 58.6% eFG%... Villanova 44.8%.
Nova was +4 on turnovers and +5 on ORebs... wasn't enough to catch up to the big eFG% discrepancy.
Note: LAST game was a surprise to win - Creighton 1.0% better eFG%, but we held a ridiculous and surprising edge in OR%.

Dats wat da coach said. & he didna need any of dem fancy stats
Nova shot just 6-34 (17.6%) from 3-point range, while we hit 9 of 19 (47.4%). That was pretty much the difference. Definitely an off shooting night for the Wildcats. And despite missing 9 free throws, Marquette still made more than Villanova (13 to 12). Reinhardt's finest moment as a Warrior.

Yep. It's also what any of our eyes told us.

I used my eye test on the analytics and everything checks out.
