Title: SOTG
Post by: PGsHeroes32 on January 09, 2018, 09:47:03 PM
I gotta go with Rowsey overall but wow. So many contributions

Matt, Greg and Theo with major honorable mentions.

Sam too.

Huge game for the boys

Lots to choose from boys, but here goes:

1.  AR. His shooting and attacking of the basket were a welcome sight. If he and M2N can put it together in the same game, we can beat just about anyone.
2.  GE. Wow on that dunk, and great all around game.
3.  Big shots and D out of Sam.
4.  Matt played great D on Delgado.

Big win. Go Warriors!

Gotta give it to Rowsey.  Was the leader the entire game, played better defensively than he has all year.  I'm looking for reasons not to give it to Rowsey since Heldt and Elliott were fantastic, but there's nothing to take it away.

Contributions from so many players.    A total team effort.    But somebody scored the first 11 and went over 30.
Rowsey

Rowsey no doubt. Very in control and good decision making. Turned the momentum with the 3 point foul and pull up off of turnover.

But everyone was awesome. Very complete team game.

I said we didn?t have an answer for Delgado, but Wojo got it out of his boys tonight!

Rowsey is obviously a perfectly good choice.

But I would give it to Elliott.  He shut down Carrington period.  Shutting him down was key.  Held him to 4 points on 1-7 shooting.  Dominate defensive performance.

Defense won this game, and Elliott (and Heldt/Theo) led the defense.

1. Rowsey
2a - 2c. Elliot, Heldt, Sam - After our team got hot from 3 down the stretch, we probably win regardless. But this game wasn't close because of rebounding. Phenomenal job on the glass.

Rowsey, no brainer. Fortunately, he alone knew when the game began.
Kudos to Matt, Greg, Theo and Sammy.

Yeah, Rowsey gets it.  10 to start game, 7 to start second half.

But, Heldt/Theo limiting Delgado to 12 and 10 and Elliott all over the place and his defense on Carrington make it close.

Wish it could be a team SOTG.

Don't see any love for Theo. He and Heldt did a really good job on D. Nice to see Theo not in foul trouble

Rowsey set the tone from the first minute but it was a great game from everyone.

I do like the fact that in the post game interview AR first recognized Markus (yes, the interviewer did mention Markus when referring to AR's output but still) and then immediately talked about what a good team Hall is.  I thought it was pretty classy of him.

Ok, I?ll agree with Rowsey.

Maybe we should have a sub-category - ? Best player who is not in the Big 3?

That would go to Elliot, in my book.

GE, Heldt, and Theo all played extremely well.  I like that Theo, a frosh, held his own against all SH's seniors.  GE had 2 or 3 momentum swinging plays that were gut punches for SH.

2.) Elliott
3.) Sam
4.) Heldt
5.) Theo
6.) Markus

Most complete game we played all year

When I saw sub my mind went to "shorter than."  And then I thought maybe it should be SOTG that is not sub 6'.  Still leaves Hauser to win most of those, but at least the rest of the guys then only have to beat out one stud (and the one who is most likely to let the game come to him rather than search out his shots) rather than 3.

Yes  give it to AR but this is the best overall game from Marquette in at least 5 years. Got to love this team. How about Elliot and our freshman. How about Heldt, how about Hauser, how about the D.

Another big game Friday against Butler.

Great paint defense except for a span that bridged the two halves where SHU hit 9-10 or 10-12 in the paint.  Early on, MU was doubling the paint, then was mixing it up with zone looks.  Great game plan and adjustments. The Frosh were great!

When MU consistently defends the paint, they are Top 10!

Heldt, he had stretch of 3-4 possessions in the second half on both ends that really clenched the momentum and helped us close the door.

Rowdy Rowsey
Title: Re: SOTG
Post by: TAMU, Knower of Ball on January 09, 2018, 11:06:04 PM
I'll make the bold choice and say Elliott. We didn't win this game because of our offense, it was because our defense stepped up in a big way and Greg was at the center of that. Carrington 2/8, Rodriguez 5/15 (and 2 of those were breakaway dunks), Powell 3/7. And I hate to say it, but Elliott's 5 rebounds were not easy rebounds. Elliott got the hard rebounds and almost all of them seemed to turn into points.

Heldt has a case as well. Held Delgado to 5/12 and only 1 offensive board (which happened while he was on the bench). Dunk that missed bunny and maybe he edges Greg.

Of course Rowsey is more than deserving as well but despite the 31 points, I put him narrowly in third behind Greg and Matt.

Honorable mentions for Rocky Top for his solid all around game and Theo for his toughness.

Title: Re: SOTG
Post by: onepost on January 10, 2018, 12:48:48 AM
It'll end up going to Rowsey but I'd say Elliot.  The guy just does it all.  Hits that corner 3 consistently (the biggest area I thought we'd miss Cheatham, but Greg is now 4/5 in Big East play), plays great lock-down D for a frosh, grabs huge rebounds all throughout the game, and brings an energy to the team that few others do.  His knack for not only SKYING for rebounds, but immediately looking to the 3-point line for one of the Big 3 for a dagger 3 is phenomenal.  Turned the tide of the VCU/LSU game on one to Markus and tonight his putback dunk, offensive board kickout to Markus, saved ball kickout to Sam sequence sealed the game.

You can clearly see why Izzo wanted this guy, and we're damn lucky to have him in blue and gold.  Love this team.

You know it?s a great team win when Sam is overlooked in a lot of honorable mentions after having 14/8/1/1/1 & no turnovers.  He?s so consistently good every game.  Rowsey for SOTG but honorable mention to Greg, Sam, Matt, Theo, & M2N is about right.

Agree Rowsey probably should be SOTG for the early scoring in each half when we otherwise could not get it going.

Also agree that Sam second for me.  While Theo/Heldt are getting a lot of well-deserved praise for the interior defense, if you watched closely Sam did as much contesting on the interior as anybody and finished possessions with rebounds.  I wish he'd get a little more aggressive on offense, but he rarely seems to make a dumb play.

Rowsey
he single handedly jump started the game when others were feeling things out.
it could have gotten pretty ugly right off the bat, but he scored when others couldn't.

the overall performance was a strong from him as I've seen-
scoring, few fouls, ball protection, rebounding, assists, perfect from the line, 4-8 from 3's, 10 of 18 overall with most minutes played on the team (34).

while it certainly was a team effort (best of the year) and many had super strong outings, Rowsey's was the difference from start to finish.

no brainer.

It is Rowsey. The people of Scoop are saying GE because we want some different names on the board but the fact of the matter is... at the end of the year it will still be those 3. If we want to win any game, one of the three will have to have a SOTG worthy appearance.

It is easy to take Sam for granted.

So damn steady.

I thought he had a bad shooting game because he missed a few wide-open 3s ... and then I look at the box score to see 5-for-11 (which isn't bad) and 4-for-9 (which is good). Obviously, also see the 8 rebs in a game in which we outboarded a very good rebounding team, and the zero TOs in a game in which we only had 6.

A very valuable, versatile player.

He is one of my favorite Warriors of the post-Wade era. Can't wait to see what the "even better Hauser" does for us!

Rowsey, of course.  MU will really struggle to make up for his offense next year.  And, no, those points won't come from Hauser's brother.

Heldt gets runner up.  Played strong, smart defense when I was expecting him to get steamrolled.  Other than missing the bunny when he should have dunked the ball, you could not have asked for anything more from the guy.

Yes they will. Not to mention improvement from Markus, Theo, Greg, Jamal, Sacar, Matt, and Harry plus the additions of Morrow, Eke, and Bailey and the possible addition of another player. If Rowsey (and Haanie) is all this team loses....we will be much improved.

I know everyone is high on Joey and Morrow should give us some more muscle on the boards, but Bailey looks like a pretty good shooter. Hope he can contribute as well next season.
