Just behind the President of my wife's alma mater Colgate University, a much smaller institution (Enrollment 2800) but with a considerably larger endowment ($890M to Marquette's 550M) despite MU being 4x Colgate's size.

The real story here is that the President of MSOE is only making $244K (which includes $84K of deferred comp).

Who would do that job for that kind of money?

They hired a new guy in May 2016.  He's making a hell of a lot more than that is my guess.  I also don't think Viets was working full time in his last couple of years.

Non-taxable benefits.  Life insurance up to a certain value, education assistance for a dependent, health insurance, etc.
