If cupcakes are scoring inside at will, it's going to get uglier as the season progresses.

So frustrated a team as poor at defense as we are cannot at least play a zone that does not allow easy layups.  If we gave up wide open threes I could almost live with that.  Just pathetic zone defense.

Zone proponents strangely silent, our man defense wasnt bad they were just hitting crazy 3s

Chicago State is making some tough shots.  I hate when MU gets an early lead because of hot 3 pt shooting.   It always seems that MU starts to settle for the 3's, goes cold, and struggles to get into an offensive flow that nets them both good interior looks as well as open 3's.   Thankfully, Chicago State isn't good.

The more I watch, the more I think that Rowsey, and to a slightly lesser degree Howard, are the primary problems for Marquette's defense.   Neither can keep their man in front of them, the help and rotations start and the defense breaks down.

Cain, Elliott, Anim, and Sam do a decent job staying in front of their man in space.   Markus and Howard  do not.

Both poor defenders.  Sometimes I wonder if we would be better suited with a turnover driven defense.  We cant stop dribble penetration,  low post,  offensive rebounds,  nor are we good a perimeter defense.  Maybe we could cause some havoc and get some turnovers?

Our turnover rate defense in the first half was 12.9%.  Not good among other poor defensive stats.

On the bright side, after watching 4 minutes of the Duke Indiana game, the number 1 team in the nation is playing the same level of defense MU is playing right now

I love Theo but man is he a foul machine.  I had heard he fouled out of every High school game it was supposedly due to him being so much bigger than the other players.  I think its largely due to defensive technique. I'm sure wojo and company will teach him the art of the good D without fouling.

At some point you just have to embrace the terrible D. Either with full court pressure or...anything diff.

Or something like Beilein's (sp?) defense which created turnovers in the half-court by jumping passing lanes.

I've heard they don't matter but still, I'm now used to seeing Rowsey, Howard and Hauser shoot free throws, so I am startled when an MU player misses a free throw.

If Georgia didn't know to guard the three line, they do now. That should be their entire D plan.

MU: 11 and counting.  Last year, Markus tied Mark Anglavar with 9 but has now shredded that record.

Agree with Tower -- Markus and Rowsey can't guard, and it isn't because of their height.

Elliott and Cain look to have some nice potential as defenders.

Elliott has such a mature game for a frosh......rarely takes a bad shot.....looks to make others better.....impacts the game in ways other then scoring

It's not like it's an official designation or anything.  My guess is it was just that guy's observation.

Let's face it.  As much as we all lover Rowsey, he doesn't strike me as the most mature guy on our team.

Yeah I know it's not an official designation but the announcer followed it with "he's also very quiet" just seemed like something to say about a player that couldn't be fact checked
