Pre-season NIT seems to be the rumor

The pre-season NIT has been around since 1985.

Since they went with a preseason version that allows them to invite, you know, teams that will actually make the
NCAA tourney.
Quote from: vogue65 on November 22, 2017, 05:14:05 PM
Really, who knew?
In '15-'16, 'Nova started the season winning the preseason NIT, and finished it winning the NCAA Championship. Same with Duke in '09-'10.
In '12-'13, Michigan won the preseason NIT, then was national runner-up.
Recent finalists also include Gonzaga, Arizona, 'Cuse and UConn.
So it seems some pretty good teams knew. I suspect we might have some good competition....
Marquette played in the pre-season NIT around 2000(?)
It was a bigger field with I believe 16 teams and the first two rounds of games were played on campus.
Marquette hosted South Alabama in the opener and lost rather decidedly.

I knew, remember, I'm old, I was trying to make a funny with calling it the Not Invited Tournament, oh well. It was called the Not Invited Tournament because it was for good teams not invited to the NCAA.
So much for historical perspective, just the facts mam, just the facts.
Do I have to explain that one also? Think Friday.

Orlando seems very fun and doable.
Remember the Milwaukee Classic? Great tournament, but nobody came and the rent was probably too high, and Wisconsin had a problem with the beer.

I remember it well. Back in the day before my dad had season tickets his good friend Irv Stauber would give us his opening night tickets every year. We'd see Bucky vs. their 'reasonable' opponent in game one and MU vs. our 'cupcake' in the nightcap. Probably the way I saw my very first MU game around 1968 or so.

Our family will definitely be heading to Orlando in 2019. We go to Orlando every year in February but will go a few months early that year.
Did a cursory look and tix packages for the Advocare were $120 this year which included entry to every game, which is less than a single session ticket in Maui. Now the experience and scenery won't quite match Maui but after having a total blast this year our family is planning to frequent many more Thanksgiving tourneys with Marquette in the future and that one should be a value.
Not sure if I can justify the expense and pull the trigger on NYC next year, as we prefer warm whether destinations for travel in November, but with that field, that would be great too.

I've been to what is now the Advocare tourney a couple of times in recent years.. worked media for both (one year had Minnesota in it; couple years ago MU was there) and I will say the Thanksgiving Day spread - all every day of the tourney, was very good!!
You CAN go on the cheap -- on the off day I went to my condo down to N Palm Beach one time, the other had a buddy come up... but both years, got a nearby hotel (5ish minutes away?) for a great price... all in all, pretty cheap trips both years. Can definitely spend there too if you wish.

This. Generally speaking, Orlando is unequivocally the cheapest "destination" holiday tourney (unless you live in Lahaina, Nassau, Jersey, etc. already), and obviously, far and away the most kid-friendly. Highly recommended for young Warriors.
The Benny B clan doesn't do NYC, so we'll next be looking forward to Orlando in 2019 and Maui in (probably) 2022, not to mention a bunch of March weekends in between.
Hopefully, a Caribbean trip fit in there too.

Announcements vary for each tournament, and it's not always the same for each tournament. More recently, it would seem that timing of the announcement depends on when they fill out the field, which for many tournaments now is more than just the eight teams at the site.
In other words, the "championship" field, i.e. the 8 teams going to Orlando, is pretty much set, but they may still have to book the low- and mid-majors who play the "pre-tournament," i.e. campus-site, games (not to mention coordinate those games with the host schools).

Yes. Thanksgiving Day, Friday and Sunday. One of the few pre-season tournaments that has an off-day in the middle. Might actually be the only one.

Guessing we'll be there too. My folks live an hour away, two birds with one stone.
It's nice that there's games after Turkey Day. Looking at this year's bracket, everyone is guaranteed two games which means you can fly out post-Turkey Day.
Would like to be in NYC for this year's tourney but the way it straddles Turkey day is a PITA. Thinking of flying out Weds AM and leaving Thurs AM... EARLY.

Same. Missed two in a row with Maui and NYC the year before. Skipping this year's because I've been to NYC like 4 times in the past 2 years, and again, over Thanksgiving.
Orlando may be a good enough sell to the lady, but man, wish they'd do these the week before or after. But I must admit, having hoops to watch over the holiday is indeed awesome.

Personally, I love the fact that these tournaments are typically over Thanksgiving break... with in-laws being IU loyals and everyone on my side of the family wearing Badger red, I'm merely a blueberry in a bowl of tomato soup during the holidays. MU tournaments gives me a chance to be around my "extended family" that I can actually tolerate.
