It looks like Luke didn't get his fill on cupcakes and is still eating up the Big East opponents. How should / will MU be able to contain this guy.Last year he went off for 22 points and 13 rebounds and it looks like he has improved since then.

help defense from the guys around him will be key. but make sure we don't leave mcalarney open since he lit up Uconn.
I think UCONN gave us a great blueprint on how to stop Harangody, now all we need to do is find someone who is 7-3 and we should be in good shape
IF Acker can ride atop Oooz's shoulders we can do it without a problem.
Front him, flop like hell when the lob goes over the top so that it looks like he pushed off, get lots of weakside help.
Give him a free meal ticket to Real Chili's...that should take a good 4 inches off his vertal leap and make the last 10 min of the game real uncomfortable.
We need to do the same we did against Duke, Ok State, and Wisconsin... extend our defense so that entry passes are difficult into the post. That will leave us open to drives to the basket but it will make their three point shooting and post passes more difficult.
We cannot simply let post passes go in there... double teaming, zone, etc. will not work consistently. We will get eaten alive. He can't score if he doesn't have the ball.
The referees. If, they don't allow him to create space.

I vote for this solution with Acker on Barro's shoulders being a close second
One of the keys in Stopping Luke on Saturday will be for whoever is guarding him to understand that he NEVER turns over his right shoulder. He will ALWAYS turn over his left shoulder. If they clue in on that, it will go a long ways towards containing him.
Hack a shaq...I mean Luke.
I don't think anyone is really going to stop him, hopefully the big guys play him hard, foul a lot, and minimize his presence as much as possible, Harangody can still have an unbelievable game and Marquette still win
What premiere big man has killed us in the Big East at home?

Don't worry about him--let him get 25 to 30 points if he wants. Every 2 point basket is a trey they can't get,. which I would be much more concerned about. Focus on their guards--especially McAlarney--to keep them from making easy passes inside and and more importantly, easy baskets outside. If Harangody scores 25, but their other starters are in single digits, we will win.
Baring that, take a page out of Al's book--start Hazel and hope he and Harangody get into a fight in the first minute. They both get tossed for the game. :D

I didn't think he even HAD a 4 inch vertical leap.
:o
I think someone will promise to give him his swamp back and then he will go away.
When Luke puts his shoulder into a guy, that guy should immediately take a Duke flop. Foul him out in the first half. ;)

Could not have said it better myself. All the teams that I've seen play against ND always seem to forget that. Granted it's been only a couple of games that I have actually watched, I still haven't seen Harangody consistently use his left hand or turn the other way.
Better let Coach Crean know.
Question:Do we front Shrek or double team him when he gets the ball in the post?
I think they should front him and if they throw the lob over the top the weak side defender most rotate and take a charge(or a duke flop). We need to find a way to get him into foul trouble or to run him out of gas.
Also the comment on how he goes to the right could not be more accurate...Burke and Ooze are going to have there hands full.
McAlarney is good but he is about to play against two great defenders in Jerel or DJ and I like are chances...Jerel must stay out of foul trouble...
Should be a great game... The BC will be rocking as MU pulls out the WIN!!!
Even though he hasn't shown it much lately, Burke is definitely capable of hangin with Harrangody down low. He did it in madison, so he could definitely do it again.
And tell everyone to take "charges" when he's got the ball
Does Joe Nethen have any eligibility remaining?
suit up mcilvaine...maybe he can pass for christopherson

so he's a white version of scot merritt?
My prediction is that early on, Harongody will make a move and Matthews will come in for the charge. Matthews is the biggest flopper on our team so it will be an interesting call and the first indication of what kind of afternoon we're in for.
I hate Harongody.
