I wanted to start a new season with great memories personally experienced. Here's the rules. No watching on TV crap. Sure I watched the NCAA Championship game on TV but I wasn't there in person. I want wonderful, heart warming stories. Little stories nobody's heard rather than some highlight show. That's boring and easy. Dig deep and make it personal guys. I'll start.
3) The hated Russians. Midnight tip-off with my dad. Many students at the other end of MECCA in costume and well lubricated. I KNEW in that moment where I wanted to go to college. Epic. I miss dad so very much.
2) Nova last year. Chick and I were headed to the court through the Courtside Club and the atmosphere was electric. Wojo had just finished with TV and was in the Club in a seeming Jim Valvano moment looking for someone to hug. Nobody even noticed him in the excitement. I did and went up to him in what was really solitude for the two of us amidst the chaos. We had a wonderful 20 second conversation. Just the two of us. He was so very happy for both the players and the alumni. We had waited a long time for this in his mind. I sometimes wonder if he remembers that moment too. Not that it was me. Just that it was kind of special.
1) Davidson. I had been diagnosed with cancer 24 hours before. I literally drove to Lexington in the hours following 'that' call. Told exactly one person down there. Nobody else knew. I'm normally a 'glass half empty' kind of guy and the game generally went badly. I remember thinking that I would be driving home disappointed the next morning into an uncertain future. Then the 3s started falling in the final 90 seconds. And when we inbounded the ball to Vander with 6 seconds I KNEW we were winning. God would simply not ask that much of me in 2 days. Soon to be 5 years out and still cancer free.
Top those boys. 8-)
Being in the house for the "send it in medium size fella" dunk. I think the only thing that tops that is being in the omni.
Close second for me, Jae Crowder giving me his paradise jam champions hat right after they won. Still don't know why he did. He came over pointed at me and gave the hat. Still have it on my shelf in my office. People ask me why i have an ugly orange hat featured prominently in my office, especially in College Station.
January 10, 1981, my sophomore year at MU, #5 ND comes to Milwaukee. Doc Rivers sinks a half court shot with 1 second and the students storm the court. Michael Wilson climbed up on one of the backboards and stood on the rim. I was right below him, for some reason someone had cut down the net, and the scissors were just sitting on the rim. I jumped up and grabbed them and still have them. Mu beats #5 ND best game I've seen in person.
The 2003 MU/UK game. My friend was too tired to drive, so I drove his car and 4 friends from Milwaukee in that absolutely terrible snowstorm. Somewhere in St. Paul we hit a patch of black ice and go off the road into a ditch, where there is already another car there. Luckily, I kept us towards the top of the ditch in such a way that I thought maybe we could gun it and steer back up towards the road and make it despite all the snow.
I tell my friend to get out and ask the other car if they need us to call anyone, and then it crosses my mind...if we're in this ditch, and they're in this ditch, how long before the next car is in this ditch? No sooner than I thought it, I look back and see another car fish-tailing right towards us. My friend didn't see it coming, and he's literally about to get mashed by this other car and pinned between the two. At the last second, the other car spins 90 degrees and misses him/us by a few feet. I yell, "Get in the f-ing car, we are outta here!" He looks pale like a ghost and hurriedly scampers in. I slam on the gas, crank the wheel, and we cruise out of the ditch completely out of control, running over a bush and a mile marker on the way. But we make it back onto the freeway.
We finally pull off at our exit in Minneapolis, and a car starts honking at us. I roll down the window and he says we have a flat tire. We pull into Blockbuster, and sure enough, we do. So now we're changing a flat tire in the blizzard. Eventually we get the spare on, and we make it the last mile or two to my friends' place at the U of M.
The next day, the guy who said he has my tickets backs out...says he doesn't have them anymore. Let's just say that I really laid into him about how we almost died getting to this game, and he better come through. After several more angry phone calls, we work it all out and have our tickets.
Turns out Wade put up a triple-double, and we absolutely knocked the pants off #1 rated UK in my own hometown. It will be hard to top being at that game in my lifetime in terms of sporting events. When we finally had a chance to take the car to the shop, we find out that the tire was actually fine and had just accumulated some debris from when it went off road. It cost $9 and change to clean it out and put it back on. I dropped him a Hamilton and we were on our way back to Milwaukee. Sometimes all the effort is totally worth it.
We ended up at the Final 4 in New Orleans a week later, and the silver lining to that experience was that because of the way it all played out, my best friend who was with me for both of these trips, well his entry name Gettin' Brain ended up finishing 3rd out of a million people in the online ESPN bracket pool (he had 7/8 Elite 8 teams correct, and everything after that perfect). He returned home to a check for $1,500, which for us was like winning the lottery. This covered all our drinks at Murph's for the rest of senior year. What a time.

This would be my moment as well. Came back from CT early specifically to go to the game.
3) This wasn't really "greatest" caliber, but one of my most memorable was going to see DePaul at Marquette on February 16, 2000. It was memorable for a few reasons. First, it was the first live MU game I attended. I had followed the program because I lived in the area, but but didn't become a diehard fan until I began attending a year later. Second, Richardson was a beast, notching a double-double (15/15 if I remember right). Third, and most bizarre, was that Brian Wardle scored every Marquette point in the first half. Every single point. Now granted, it was an ugly, 55-35 affair, but I've never seen any single player before or since score all the points for a team in a half.
2) Marquette/Kentucky in 2003. The day before the Pittsburgh Sweet 16 game, a friend promised me his dad's tickets if Marquette made the Elite 8. After watching the game at the Ale House on Water (on a first date, not sure we ever went out again) and celebrating like mad, I drove up to Minneapolis for the game. Stopped on the way to have breakfast with my grandpa. Then the Dwyane Wade triple-double, the fall of #1, and certainly the most epic moment in my three years at Marquette.
1) Villanova earlier this year. I'd say more, but most everything I needed to say about that I already said here (http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=53295.msg892403#msg892403). Magical night.

How did I know dis wuz yo answer, even befour readin' it, hey?
Few of us on this board have witnessed the imaginable euphoria of being in the house when your alma mater captures a national championship. I've been very fortunate to be present at MSG vs LSU and St. John's for the 1970 NIT Championship and also present at the Omni in 1977 for the Final Four vs UNC-Charlotte and UNC.
Pure college basketball orgasmic pleasure, ai na?
2-way tie - at UL, '96 and '98. 1st two MU road games attended. '96 Hutch for 3 to win it 80-79 in 2 OT. '98 Wardle for 3 to cap a comeback from down 13 with 5 to go for the 71-70 win, followed by all the Deane histrionics. Pretty sure the # of MU fans in my half of the gym for both games totaled in single digits.
Watching MU play blocks from my place in Mpls in 03 was great... Mecca NIT game v S Fla was special
MU vs Cuse in 2009. We lost in OT but that game was when I officially decided to go to MU, I was on the fence between MU, Depaul, Xavier and a few D3 schools that wanted me for lacrosse but that environment was so exciting I fell in love with the school.
Dwight Burke put back jam against GTown, I think it was 2008. I believe MU ended up losing in OT but the BC was on fire when Dwight slammed it late in the second half.
Novak going off for 41 against #2 UCONN. 2006?
I have quite a few, but not up to 4ever's. Many of mine are being at practice at Old Gym or in the locker room when Al was here. I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite off court experience, but Al teaching my oldest son how to play Gin on a flight from Tampa to MKE. He sat in First Class with my son and played Gin for a couple of hours with him.
On court, not easy but will throw out some great ones for me.
Luke beating WI on buzzer beater.
Al's last home game. We lost, but off the charts action that night.
The Russian game at midnight.
Bad memory--Dwight Clay snapping 81 game winning streak.
Beating Kentucky. Had my son with me in '94 and trip home on team plane was great experience.
Any ND or Louisville game in the '70's.
Road trips to Duke, MI, Indiana, Kansas, Cincy
Beating Duke behind DWade &Co
denver MU
One of the great home wins!!
1. I was one of the lucky few here in the Omni on 3/28/77.
2. I was also there for the semifinals on 3/26/77.
3. The win over UK at the Metrodome in '03.
4. The win over Miami to get to the Elite Eight in '13.
5. The beatdown of UConn in our first Big East game.
6. Novak's corner shot to beat ND (loudest I've ever heard BC).
7. Various big wins over UW@Madison, UL and UC over the years (hard to distinguish).
8. The bat game.
Easily that weekend in Atlanta at the Omni in 1977. :)
The weekend at the Metrodome is my all-time top sports moment.
Number 2 for MU would probably be the BET's I attended. While not the best MU performances, being at the Garden watching MU and the Big East was pretty special.

That USF NIT game was fun. After the game, I picked up the yellow, padded, MECCA folding chair that was my seat for the game, and took it home with me as a souvenir. Now I need to get a blue one from the Bradley Center this year to go with it.
1. Absolutely, the ND game with Rivers' half-court shot. It was bedlam at the Arena. Plus, it was effen ND. I LOVED beating ND, and I wish we still had the chance to do so!!!
2. MU vs Duke in 1980. Game at Dane County Coliseum because NBC wanted it for that day and the Arena was booked. Unlike now, being on national TV was special because it was the only game on. Duke had All-Americans Mike Gminski and Gene Banks, among others. We built a big lead behind Oliver Lee and then held off a furious Dookie rally. Because the game was in Madison, lots of alums didn't bother making the trip but lots of students did. It was a loud, raucous crowd and we stormed the court when it was over. IIRC, it also was the first MU game Al broadcast (not sure about that, though).
3. The OT shootout between MU and Mizzou in the 2003 NCAAs at Indy. Novak became an overnight sensation, Diener was amazing, game was thrilling. As great as Wade was, people don't remember that Diener made the FF run possible by carrying us in the first two NCAA tourney games.
Honorable mention (no particular order): beating top-10 ND at Joyce in a must-win game in 1980 - so sweet cuz obviously our handful of Warriors were surrounded by ND fans ... Miami in 2013 NCAAs ... crushing top-5 Louisville in 1979 ... winning the Brooklyn tournament behind Henry a couple of years ago - two very exciting games! ... crushing top-20 Bucky on NYE in 94.
Jealous of those at the Omni!

I was at all 4 NIT games in 1970. We were the class of the tournament that year and AL was really annoyed that the press was giving Pistol Pete all the headlines. You could see the satisfaction on his face at the presser after the game by totally shutting down the most prolific score in college basketball at the time and the team scoring over 100 points in that game. I think we beat them by more than 40 points. He left no doubt in the press' mind who was the best team and let them know it.
The other memorable game was also at the garden the following year when we ranked #2 played ranked #4 Fordham that year The place was electric and was one of the most exciting games to watch as they took us to double overtime. We just had more horses to secure the victory.

Back in '68 my dad was diagnosed with Colon Cancer at age 50. He underwent surgery and the doctors were pretty certain they had remove all the cancer. There were no chemo treatments back then. My dad passed at the age of 92 cancer free. Pray you have the same outcome, but let's make it a 102.
Seconded!
So many—but one that comes to mind is Dameon Mason's baseline jumper to tie the UL home game in '04. Fouled on the play, he made the FT for the 1 point win.
Dameon Mason sinking some game winning free throws to beat Louisville, what, 15 years ago? Games are always more magical when we're kids.

The USF NIT game at Mecca was probably the best while I was in school.
Otherwise the 2002 game against Cincinnati to win the conference was absolutely crazy.

Beating Kentucky in 1968 in the sectional in Madison. Still can see all those confederate flags waving in the stands. All white Kentucky, Issel, Pratt and Casey against
mainly an all black team except Jeff Sewell. Badger hoops was nothing back then, the Field House was crazy the whole time. Adolph Rupp, the ultimate raciest.

The UK in '68 was one of my earliest memories of MU ball. I definitely learned to hate UK at a young age. Have to admit, UK and Louisville are still the two teams I love to hate. Hate Bucky, but not like I used to.
A few were already touched on but here goes
- novak against notre dame
- novak against uconn
- mason against louisville
- villanova last year
- 3 amigos senior year some buddies and i drove to south bend and came back with a win
- Deiner going off against becky his senior year

One of the worst losses was the next game against Purdue, gave that game away. Still see Mount hitting the shot to beat MU. Ric Cobb made one free throw at the
end of regulation. Talked to Ric about that, his comment, at least I made the first one, good point.

Best looking jump shot ever, still is! Great pic once in SI showing it, really held the ball high on his shot, picture perfect.
Some of my favorites that I attended:
ESPN Game Day against Pittsburgh was awesome. Three rows behind MU bench, MU up 28(?) at half... wife asked how come they were so terrible.
UConn in BEast opener. Novak goes berserk for 41 and 16. Place was as loud as I've ever remembered.
Kentucky in Minnesota. I remember getting lower bowl seats from some disgruntled Rodent fans after their loss.
Notre Dame when Novak hit that 3 pointer from the corner. L-O-U-D
Any one of the awesome duels vs. Louisville (I was at a few... obviously not all).
My Senior year in winter of 01, driving to Cincinnati with 2 cars full of friends. MU was so-so and I had seen Cincy dominate us while in school. Got sweet lower level tickets for a Sunday night televised game on ESPN 2 (big deal back then!). We made a bunch of signs (a few of which were confiscated) and were as loud and obnoxious as we could be. The game was tight, think we blew a lead late and it went to OT where we sank about 10 straight FTs to win (Free thows don't matta though).
To top if off we got the attention of the main camera guy and got on TV going crazy in OT coming out of a time out. Then we drove all night back to Milwaukee as I had a finance mid-term the next afternoon.
Awesome!

Also, working the catering training table. One time Freeway walks in with the team. He approaches me while I'm getting food out and says "What do you think about the rumors of Michael Irvin getting traded to the Packers" (in his Freeway voice). I was shocked. No way the Packers would trade for that coke head dbag. Lovette or Polo told him to leave me alone as they were hungry.
I'll take you back
67 NIT. I'm in 7th grade. Dad is chair of the Athletic Board (which no longer exists). He takes my cousin David and I to NYC. We beat Marshall in the semis. We are at practice at the Garden on the day between the semis and finals. Standing with my dad who is talking to Al as practice is winding down. Cassius Clay//Muhammad Ali, who is fighting at the Garden (that night, I think) walks out of the locker room and walks up to us. Challenges Jackie Burke to a game of one on one and Burke smokes him. They walk back over and Ali suggests he and Burke do some sparring---Burke took off like a bat out of hell!!! We get smoked by Walt Frazier in the finals.
03 in Minneapolis. Halftime of the Wisconsin/Ky game before our game with Pittsburgh. I run into Governor Doyle---know him--actually a distant relative. He is sporting his badger red. Tell him he is wearing the wrong color. He turn to an aide and says show him what I'm wearing for the next game---he opens a box with a mu sweat shirt or sweater!!! Took all seven kids to N.O. for the finals---Minn. was much more fun!!!
Omni is 77 was the best of all though!!!
Mine will be when Herro signs that paper.

Good stuff. I am with you until you state Jackie takes off like a bat out of hell. That does not sound like the Jackie Burke I know!!
Swear to God, Goose. He wanted no part of it and I didn't (and don't) blame him!!!

I believe you, JK. Jackie is one of my favorites.
4) STH when Marquette beat #1 Villanova last season.
3) Mascot at Marquette vs Notre Dame in the 2008 Big East Tournament. Lazar did some pregame warmups in the back with the Golden Eagle head on. Following the game, Marquette fans and Notre Dame haters were chanting "We Are Marquette" as we left the Garden. As we were crossing the street with the cheerleaders and dance team a cop over his car speaker asked "Did you beat Notre Dame?". When everyone yelled yes he said "excellent" and either honked or turned on the siren in celebration. I don't remember which.
2) Student when Marquette beat #2 UCONN and Novak scored 41 in their first Big East game.
1) Mascot at the 2006 CBE Tournament in Kansas City. Beat Bobby Knight and Coach K in back-to-back nights. Still waiting for Marquette to auction off that banner!
My most memorable game was actually the loss to Miami of Ohio in 1978. We had a great path to another championship that year and I remember sitting there in the stands at Market Square arena stunned after we lost. I thought we would have matched up well against the Kentucky squad that won it all that year.

That and losing Scotter McCray to Louisville or Mark Aguirre to DePaul. If Al stayed, he would have got one of them. Hank still had great recruiting class that year, but
with one of the those guys, it probably would have been #1 in the country that year. Michael Wilson, Artie Green, Sam Worthen and Dean Marquardt. To bad, your

Okay, I'll add a couple more although neither is even close to my original list.
1) Spring 2012. Don't even recall the opponent but I believe we won. Anyway, chick and I were hosting 3 high school seniors (MU applicants) down at the Courtside Club and at the game. And to give them the full student treatment, we decided to park up at campus and walk just like they would if they matriculated to Marquette. Anyway, on the walk down Wells some 6-8 students were on the other side of the street chanting 'We're not that drunk! We're not that drunk!' as they headed down to the game. Loved it. All of our kids thought it awesome although sadly only one ended up at MU, largely for financial reasons.
2) 'Cuse on Big Monday. You know, the night Davante went off and Jake hit the 4 pointer? Great atmosphere. Anyway, since it was a 6p start chick and I decide to celebrate with a single beer in Caffrey's before the drive home. We get there quickly enough that we get 2 seats at the bar before the place fills to what I would label as 'crowded'. Fifteen minutes goes by and I hear a familiar voice from back by the pool table.....

Al would have owned the Big East. It would have put him at an even higher stature as the would have fed off the rivalries . Remember he was still in is 40's. We were just getting going.

It was Georgetown, and we did win. It was also the first time the student section tried the "I believe that we will win" chant and it worked perfectly. It was also the only time it ever worked perfectly.
I'll just share stories I told in previous posts:
Rushing the court with the American flag:
Quote
Funny story, I was the one who brought the flag to that game [where we rushed the court after beating Cincinnati]. That was the season following 9/11, so flags and outward signs of patriotism were everywhere, though in retrospect I'm surprised they let us bring it in since it was on a rusty sharp metal rod. Anyways, the night before my next door neighbors came over after bar close, they were wasted and had stolen the flag off of an apartment building and were waving it around in a patriotic fervor. The next morning we got up for the game and started drinking early and ran all the way down to the BC in the freezing cold waving the flag. We managed to get into the front row of the student section and waved the flag regularly. When the game was over we all rushed the court, and I brought the flag on. Soon everyone was on the court, and someone next to me was sitting on his friend's shoulders, and asked for the flag. I handed it up to him and eventually he made it into the (to me) famous shot of D. Wade in the crowd next to the flag (here: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/97/1a/c0/971ac002a6c58c271067e4f79add6eb1.jpg (https://i.pinimg.com/originals/97/1a/c0/971ac002a6c58c271067e4f79add6eb1.jpg)). After that I'm not sure where it went, but it ended up in so many photos of the game, and I think it really makes the pictures seem timeless.
Advancing to the Elite 8:
Quote
I was a senior and watched the [2003 Elite 8] game at Caffrey's. It was pretty incredible, we couldn't believe everything was going so well. Then afterwards everybody streamed out into the streets, at the corner of 16th and Wells. At some point someone started running. I didn't know where they were going but I ran along with a few buddies. They turned onto Wisconsin and ran all the way downtown, I had no idea if there was someone up front with a plan or if this was just random mob behavior but I followed along. Eventually we got down to the lakefront, near that funky statue, where people stopped and did some cheering and then the crowd broke up. We didn't feel like walking all the way back right away so we bar-hopped back to campus.
Freshman year when the team was bad:
Quote
Danny Pudi was a superfan my freshman year even though the team was .500 and when they did win it tended to be ugly. His energy often fired up the student section, it was kind of like having a mascot back there. One game he got this thing going where someone from up high would throw something down to him (right behind the basket) and he would throw it back. (I want to say up in the upper bowl but now I'm not sure how often there were actually people up there in those years.) The object they chose to throw was a rolled up tube sock. Somehow at least some subset of the student section got into this so we were cheering on every throw and catch. Finally security came over to take the object for safety reasons, as I'm sure we all figured they would eventually do. So then Pudi gets this chant going, "It's just a dirty sock! It's just a dirty sock!" I can't totally trust my memory here so I don't remember whether it was the whole student section or just a group around him but it was enough that I heard it and started cracking up. The security guard could hear it as well and was smiling as he walked away with the contraband.
but I'll just add that the team was really bad that year (Crean's first year) and Pudi's spirit was infectious and kept the student section fun even when we struggled. That kind of environment (along with a good effort) gets people to come back.

You're such a positive guy Herman. ::) Greatest, not most memorable. :)
Ok. While it may not be among the top all time great moments in MU history, for me the the game at the Garden with St. Johns in 2013 was pretty special. It was senior day for the Johnnies and there was a pretty good crowd in the Garden composed of their old Long Island faithful and probably a good couple thousand MU fans. The Garden closed off the upper deck so there were 2-13,000 people packed into the lower bowl. So it was a great college environment.
The Johnnies were still pretty good with Steve Lavin so the game was back and forth, and the they rallied to tie it and it went to overtime. At the end of the overtime with the score tied we had the ball and the entire arena knew Vander was going to get the ball. They threw every body they could at him, he made an incredible drive to the hole and made it just as the buzzer went off. MU won a share of the Big East Championship which I thought was pretty great considering who was in the league then. It was a true Garden moment one I will relish for a long time.
84-88. There were no memorable positive memories. So I will go with..... seeing Digger get beer dumped on him.

Dwight Burke put back jam against GTown, I think it was 2008. I believe MU ended up losing in OT but the BC was on fire when Dwight slammed it late in the second half.
Was that the phantom foul on Dom when a Georgetown player was shooting a three?

There you go my man! That drive was the pre-quel to the Davidson game.
My favorite memory wasn't a game but a class room experience. In the spring semester of 1969 I took an elective course, "Theory of Coaching Basketball" by Hank Raymonds. I sat in the back row with Ric Cobb. We had blue books to write our answers in for the final exam. The question was... if you were defending a 6'3" guard who had an outstanding jump shot and could dribble/drive to the basket with either hand, how would you guard him?
After writing down my answer I glanced over at Ric and saw his answer, "P R A Y !"
We both received "A"s.
I think most of the big ones have been covered, so here are just a few more that stand out in my memory.
Both the 02 and 03 home games vs Cincinnati...the 02 game gave the sense that the program was in really good shape again. Big crowd, both teams ranked, and MU stomped them. The 03 game finally broke the Cincy hegemony over C-USA.
The 3-day stretch in 2006 where MU beat Georgetown and Pitt to just about seal a tournament bid in a year where we were supposed to finish 12th or something in the Big East. The next weekend I went to South Bend to watch MU get a season sweep over the domers.
The ESPN Gameday at the end of the 2007 season vs. Pitt. Deliriously drunk and tired from camping out overnight for the pregame taping, the line between reality and hallucination was already blurred before Mike Kinsella started raining threes.

Dameon Mason sinking some game winning free throws to beat Louisville, what, 15 years ago? Games are always more magical when we're kids.
I was there and still have that game on the VCR. Kevin Harlan and Dan Bonner call on CBS was priceless. Senior Day in 2004.
Mason with the buzzer beater and he got fouled!
The MU/UK game in '03. MU had been to the Final 4 the year I was born, won the nc the year my wife was born, and made it back to the ff 2 months before my son was born. Thought I was onto something but my girls couldn't keep the trend alive.
Fun thread, glow. I love reading these memories. Thanks for starting it!
My brother and I watching Davante take down Syracuse + Jake thomas' 4 point play. We had both just turned into adults and started grabbing our own season tickets. Plus it was great to beat down the teams that killed the big east.
My brother and I road tripping to Madison to see Henry take down the Fadgers. Wore Red to get easy tickets, scalpers try to bleed us dry, run into a nice old badger sweater vest who sold us his 5th row center court tickets for face. Bought tickets, took off our red sweatshirts, had a good laugh with him. Sat down, watch Henry rip on the Badgers. Brother (5'10 and about 230 of muscle) starts chanting as Henry makes that drive to win, a couple 50 year something sweater vests start asking him if he wants to get beat down, my brother looks at them and says hes 30 years younger, 5 inches taller, and 100 pounds bigger. Tells the man to go get 4 more guys to make it a fair fight, they shut up, he continues to chant.
And of course Nova last year. Took my girlfriend instead of my brother (My mother had told me he didn't want to go when I got extra tickets) He still has not forgiven her.

crushing top-20 Bucky on NYE in 94.
That'd be close to the top for me. Tony Miller with a triple double and held the almighty Michael Finley to 3-for-23 in a 15-point win.
My first game back the year after I graduated. January 2011 vs a top 10 Notre Dame. I just remember Buycks playing out of his arse and the Notre Dame fans by me were furious. It was wonderful.

Also was at the Nova game last year. I actually lost a bet with a friend and had to buy the tickets. (He's a rodent fan but wanted to see Villanova play in person.) He ended up traveling for work so I called another friend who just recently moved to Milwaukee and that game turned him into an MU fan. He went to a bunch more games after that.
Then there was the game against the rodents my freshman year. It was FREEZING outside and we were all lined up at like 6-7am. Tom Crean came outside and they ended up letting us in. It was the first big time game my freshman year and the place was sold out. I remember at the time they said it was the highest attendance ever for a basketball game in the state of Wisconsin. (Or maybe that was the '08 game idk) We ended up losing but I'll never forget that one.
Here's the full game, in the intro they show Tom Crean coming out to talk to us.

Very similar story-my dad was diagnosed with colon cancer in late 70's when he was in his mid 40's. They took out 6" of his colon. He and I worked together for 16 years, he has been retired now 16 years and still going strong at 83. Best Wishes /prayers to you glow-all the best And more
Rocket
Thanks for sharing. Lucky guy to work with your Dad!! Not sure my son would agree, but I think so.

The red sweatshirts is classic.
Mine would be 2003 last regular season home game vs. Cincy to win the conference championship. I'll never forget going onto the court after with my dad while the team was cutting down the nets. I'm not sure anything had been seen in these parts like that before- at least in a long while, but then again Wade was something different all together. Getting pictures with Wade, Travis, Novak, etc with their nets around their necks is something I'll never forget. What a team/season that was.
A close second is watching Novak live vs that NBA Uconn team go off for 41. I swear from our Sec 400 row B season tickets it looked like he was pulling up from half court. I remember Calhoun just laying into Rudy Gay while we were whippin 'em. Great game...we joined the big east, rest was history!!!!
Plenty of great games, exposure to Rick. However, I was making an industrial film with Kartemquin Films as they were making "Hoop Dreams", basically over many years of filming and editing. They also had film from Al from earlier shorts they shot they shared. Basically, I found out my film funded the end of Hoop Dreams. Amazing artistic talent and they loved both Al and KO.
Personally, spending games with family and friends. MU Hoops Unites. Youngest is five years cancer free. I think she is 149-3 lifetime with all loses at the buzzer at holiday tournaments.

Beating ND in 89 just before finals week. This marked a turning point for MU basketball out of some bad times.
Several come to mind
Defeating Kentucky in NCAA Tournament
Beating Xavier for program's 1000th win
In Kansas City beating Duke
First game at Bradley Center
Final Four losing to Kansas (night before in New Orleans was amazing, night after the ass kicking with MU fans on Bourbon street was great comraderie)
This has all been a good reminder to recommend travel to the NCAA games. Some of my very best times have been the times shared with the MU faithful during those weekends. Friendships are often formed. Let me tell a quick story.
Some years ago I got to know retired attorney Mr. D and his lovely wife either in Louisville or Lexington, I forget which. We enjoyed each other's company and certainly tipped a few that weekend. Later, we ended up sitting adjacent to them in our prized upper deck centerline seats, but ended up directly across from them the following year when we switched back to Sec. 400 so contact was less frequent. We did know that Mrs. D had become ill and were heartbroken to hear about a year ago that she had passed sometime earlier.
Fast forward to yesterday. BMO Bradley totally screwed up and forgot to get ticket takers to allow the Courtside Club members in 90 minutes prior to tip. Complete fiasco. Marquette's high rollers (many of whom are elderly) standing out in the misty cold outside the door. I can assure you that Joe True personally cut someone a new arsehole in the aftermath of that. Anyway, we ran into our good friend Mr. D while waiting and got introduced to what I thought might be his guest for the day at the game. Nope, meet my fiancee! A few quick stories with Mr. D as the brunt of the joke and she says 'I'm really going to like chick and glow.' Honestly, it was easily the best part of the day.
Great story
I'm late to this party, but wanted to share a couple
2) Glow Stick game vs Georgetown. Per usual, had spent 7+ hours waiting in line for the front row seats. Where the Streets Have No Name comes on and all of the glow sticks the athletic department had give students started raining from the second deck. Pretty surreal, I think I have video of it somewhere. Needless to say, we haven't seen glowsticks since.
1) Road trip to Louisville with a couple buddies -- we had just lost D-James for the season and we almost cancelled the trip n anticipation of getting trounced. Fast forward to Louisville and one buddy had hooked Mac up with a student discount for Microsoft Office (apparently Mac didn't want to pay full price), so when Mac found out we were he offered to take us to breakfast before the Sunday game. We rolled in to breakfast with Mac and some of the radio crew after drinking (heavily) until 3 or 4 am. I'm sure we reeked of booze. In the end, I think Mac was really just looking for a ride to the stadium -- we ended up giving him a ride in exchange for his media parking pass. Great times, and a great guy.
At the Kohl Center, sitting with my bil, who was prez of the Becky Alumni Assoc at the time. We were sitting smack dab in the middle of red sweater vest central. Wearing the only blue and gold for miles, I had infiltrated deep into enemy territory. The game started well when Jae snubbed the Badger players during player introductions. Priceless. We went on to triumph that day. A day that ended with the spoils of victory....a bottle of crown won from my bil.
At Jimmy Waldvogle's hotel, hanging out with Hank after the Kentucky game. Also got Wade's autograph that night. Who would have known I was hanging out with a ton of scoopers that night.

I was at the game too, in the Upper Deck...
I'll add the '02 game at DePaul. Wade's breakout game with the alley oops reverse dunk from Cordell.
Probably thrashing Miami en route to the Elite 8 in 12-13. Though the comeback against Davidson is up there too.
