Title: Chicago Coaches Luncheon
Post by: Galway Eagle on October 25, 2017, 07:49:19 AM
Figured I'd start this thread so someone can report on what gets said later today. Anybody willing to get some Grimes information at it would be my hero

Don't count on it.  These luncheons have notoriously poor acoustics.  The odds of scoopers hearing anything good, is low.

I know that part was pretty obviously sarcastic I thought.

I hope the MC knows Carolyn Kieger's name.

Kevin O'Neill used to share "off the record" comments on recruits--although if I recall, they were his thoughts of committed but not-yet-signed players, as opposed to status of non-committed players considering Marquette.

Ahh, the memories of Scoop past!

What a horribly inaccurate and ignorant depiction of my role at the event. Never once did I call Carolyn (who I actually know from Marquette) by the wrong name. Perhaps it was an acoustics issue that ALL of you (in the "cheap seats") were experiencing. But thank you for the benefit of the doubt. Feel free to ask Carolyn for further confirmation. My goodness.

In addition, the questions were submitted by those in attendance and alumni, selected and approved by the university's group overseeing the function and previewed by the coaches themselves. I can't imagine that such control would be a foreign concept to anyone in a professional environment. It was not the goal to ambush these coaches or make them feel uncomfortable with a pressing line of questioning. It was to introduce them to the Chicago fan base. As for those selected vs asked, I asked almost every question I was given. Including  their inquiries about Chicago.

If you didn't enjoy the event, fine. On behalf of the athletics department and those who put it together, I apologize. But  spreading lies & information without context isn't something I'd expect from a member of the Marquette community.

Wojo's opening remarks about giving back and community service entailed talking about Butch Lee's work in PR, Hainy being from Miami and working in the effected community and then he wrapped it up by saying "and we are hoping to complete the trifecta with a nice young man from Houston" he says with a smirk.

I had a short 1 on 1 with him and he said the stadium was a huge recruiting piece. When I asked if/when he is going back to Houston he answered in an exhausted voice "It's like I am always there, it's a second home at this point".  He definitely gave this one his all.

I also asked for a time line and he said it should be in the next two weeks but recruiting is such a fickle thing, especially now, he wouldn't be surprised if it was postponed until spring.

Stan was in attendance, though he was on his phone most of the time. He left as soon as it was over. Couldn't get any questions in

Seriously?  She kept referring to Carolyn Krieger as "Coach Peters".  I thought I wasn't hearing correctly (I was in the cheap seats), but other people at the table confirmed it.

Also, given that attendees had the opportunity to submit questions ahead of time, she asked the blandest, least insightful questions ever.  I didn't hear any answers from Wojo that I hadn't already seen a dozen times in other interviews.

Stupidest question of all asked to both Krieger and Wojo: "What does having so many fans in Chicago mean to you?"

What a horribly inaccurate and ignorant depiction of my role at the event. Never once did I call Carolyn (who I actually know from Marquette) by the wrong name. That was an all-timer. The person who went after Lada so viciously has a habit of taking on the sanctimonious parent role on Scoop when there is no need for it. Must be some sort of esteem issue to fill the void.

I don't think that of the poster at all. Questioning someone's self esteem on the internet is not a good look GA.

Let's be real. Scoop definitely needs more than a little bit of parenting, myself included on occasion...

Plus they're plenty more people who attempt to play that role. No need to single anyone out.
