Title: RIP walter becker
Post by: rocket surgeon on September 04, 2017, 07:28:06 PM
as i am a self-proclaimed "dan-man",  the recent passing of one of the two founding members motivated me to go online to re-visit some steely dan stuff-

one little tidbit i never realized was, back in 1967 they were just an obscure college rock band named "the leather canary tears"  now if that isn't a drug induced creation as much of their music probably was, it probably played a big role in walter's early death.  i never tire of listening to their stuff.  anyway, what i found very interesting is the drummer for their leather canary tears band was chevy chase; yes that chevy chase.  it's always interesting to hear the stories behind the scenes-thought some might enjoy this

Had the pleasure of seeing Steely Dan, up close and personal last summer at Ravinia. Have to admit I never was a huge fan, but have been since that concert. BTW, Walter looked like a petrified mummy playing the air guitar that evening.

Saw Donald in concert a few years ago with Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs. Boz, of all three, was over the top.

Never cared for Steely Dan.    RIP anyway.

RIP indeed.  I've been listening to Steely Dan since I was about 5 years old.  Nothing else quite like it.

One of my favorites.  Carried me from 6th grade through MU days.   Sad they had such a long hiatus.  Very specific memories of Steely Dan songs.   Ahh, the Cuervo Gold.
