Title: ND blog
Post by: MU on January 08, 2008, 11:00:02 PM
http://www.ndnation.com/boards/index.php?thepit

Here is a link to the ND basketball blog if you want to keep an eye on what they're saying about the game this weekend.  On one of the posts it looks like somebody claims a generous donor from the Alumni Assoc. pulled some strings to get all the tickets for the game at ND...maybe that is why none of us can buy them.  Our fans are also getting a lot of heat for being the most rude and disrespectful in all of college basketball....and Crean is a whiny bitch.  A lot of it is overblown biased opinions from ND fans but I can't help but agree on some points...like let's cut the "F*** the Irish" chant this time, that's just disrespectful however you look at it.  Whether you love them or hate them, unlike Madison they're at least a respectable team and school and we look like idiots with a chant like that...this coming from a college student who usually wouldn't mind such a thing.  Go Warriors, Beat Irish!!!

Chunken, just cuz your from Madison I wont rip into you too bad for pointing something like that out. ;) Fact is Saunders isn't on our team and none of our players have been caught in that situation. Also, I don't see how he was able to stay on the team after that incident last year.  The way they were making it out to be last year was that he was done. I was surprised to hear his name in the box score against UConn.

I knew the Madison comment was coming when I clicked the post button ;)

I'm just saying, don't we have better things to rip ND on than the fact that their star PG used pot? Seriously, I bet you could find a decent percentage of students at either MU or ND who have used pot. It seems to me we'd be throwing stones while living in a glass house. How many DPS reports do you see that say "A green leafy substance was found in a room in McCormick hall..." ?

I'm with you on that one, and the same goes for the "assh*le, assh*le, assh*le" and "bullsh*t, bullsh*t, bullsh*t" chants that often permeate the Bradley Center.

Can't "The Best Student Section in the Country" come up with anything better?

I'd prefer the T to be for hanging on the rim after the dunk.  Less cocky and makes the dunk a lot cooler.   Only if we are up big though!

One of my fondest undergraduate memories ocurred after a MU/ND home game in '78 or '79.  After the game, (much later), I came out of the Sig Ep house onto the front porch, and draped over the railing was one of the ND bigs puking his guts out.  Big 6' 11" guy couldn't handle his beer.  He later played in Detroit.

Yeah, don't be "that guy" that the opposing fans think is a douche. I encountered a few at Madison this year. Cheer loud for MU but don't be a douche.

Can I say douche here? Sorry if I can't.

Off season, the Milwaukee cops caught Bo Ellis once with a dime bag of pot, which he was fined for.  At the first game of the season, Al  turned down the lights, gave Bo the mic, had him go to at half court and apologize in person to the school, team and city.  Al taught responsibility and accountability--and he knew kids made mistakes.  Bo is Mr. Marquette today.  End of story.

Can you really shake a Bible at fan of another Catholic school? That's like using the "God's on our side" chant against another Catholic school.

I guess that just shows a thing or two about those dumb ND fans...

So, are there any good "soccer hooligan" stories to share from the game?  I bet DonCornholeone got in a fist fight with one of their cheerleaders after she shook a bible in his face.

All I could really muster up to them was to keep waving "buh-bye", especially after we got up twenty. Every time I wanted to start trash talking a picture of my Grandmother flashed through my head and I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

Reminds me of the most offensive/funniest trash talking I've ever witnessed: Following the 2003 Louisville game (the Reece Gaines game), some old woman in her 70s was walking around in Cardinals gear whooping it up and acting like excited fans do, when some drunk MU student runs up and literally gets in her face and screams, "Louisville sucks d***, and so do you, b****!"

Awful, awful thing to do ... but man, that took away some of the sting, I tell you what.

Objecting to crude behavior, or objecting to the celebrating of crude behavior, isn't totally necessary. I don't need to be the cop, but I do it anyway sometimes, just to serve notice that everyone here isn't your age, and everyone here doesn't subscribe to it.

Tear em' apart for their smugness and arrogance, not petty stuff like this.

Good point, chunk.  To add to this, I wouldn't bash him for using pot -- that's really not something to get on somebody for -- but I'd bash him for being an idiot for getting caught.  Really, is it that tough to keep the weed (and any and all paraphernalia) in an apartment?  The "pothead" chants that were circulating in some parts of the student section were rather stupid because I'd guess that half the kids chanting have done or are doing pot (as you mentioned).

EDIT:  Bleh -- I see I'm late to the party and most of this has been mentioned.

An extreme over estimate. You'd be lucky to get 20% of students that were frequent users.

You're right... that is awful (but funny)... but that whole scene was just awful. MU loses on a last second shot, and then all of the Louisville fans stand outside the Bradley dancing around in their leather Louisville jackets (I've never seen a school where so many fans had school logo'd leather jackets, but I digress).

Anyways, I can't blame the UofL fans for being excited and celebrating, but it made my blood (which was probably .25% alcohol at that point) boil. I'm not into yelling at other fans that much, but I'll admit I had some choice words for some UofL fans that day.

Man, I was pissed.

Considering the national average for college students having smoked pot in the previous year is about 30% and in their lifetime at 47%, I do not think MU is much different that an average college campus. So I don't think his figures are too far off.

EDIT:  Bleh -- I see I'm late to the party and most of this has been mentioned.

isnt this the same board that just last thursday or friday was urging students to get rowdy and chide the other team like they did in the old days? and now people are saying that chanting "pothead" was stupid. What should have been chanted? "Where's Digger now?" I mean come on. At least there was some chiding going on. My favorite was the "McAlarney wants a doobie" chant that i heard.

I, for one, plan on acting like a crazy soccer hooligan at the ND game and any ND fans in my section are going to get an earful.
There's being a good fan and then there's being a jackass. Let the ND people be the latter, eh?

F that.  If they're going to be whiny little snobs and scoop up all the tickets, they get what's coming to them.  I say go ape down there.  I've done it many times and I'm proud of it.

I guess if you don't mind being verbally abused and harassed when you go to South Bend, then that's fair. Just don't come back from a road trip and whine about "classless" fans, since you're one of them.

agree, and please copy for the DePaul home game on the 26th.  I didn't appreciate their fans last year much, and I can only imagine how it felt to be a visiting ND fan saturday at the BC. There's fierce heckling, and then there's just being over the line offensive.  At least be original and don't just resort to vulgarity, come on.

See -- that one makes me chuckle a bit.  I wish I'd heard it.

Either way I think it's a bit high. (no pun intended)  And believe me i'm not one to criticize him in respect, but i still would have joined in, unless I had one i thought was better, which i can't... do you have any suggestions?

I think the beat-down we were putting on ND spoke more than any chant could.  I don't have to "think of one better", either -- I'm not a "rah! rah!" person unless provoked (like at DePaul last year), and saw no reason to do anything but soak in and fully enjoy the ass kicking we were putting on the Irish.
