Champions of Statistics!
Or is that....
Statistically, Champions!
Either way, it was fun to watch.
Also should be a reminder to the whiners this coming year...'ooooh, he's down from last year!!'
An historic, absolutely amazing accomplishment by Markus

Markus will almost certainly have a lower three point percentage, but that won't diminish this accomplishment and doesn't mean he can't still improve his overall game.

Absolutely. But I guarantee that at some point next season we will got a thread titled something like "What's Wrong with Markus' Shot?" if he's shooting around 40% from deep.

Allow me to take this one...
He's taking bad shots.
The D is focused on him.
He's not tall enough to shoot in the BE.
The team lacks leadership.
Too much pressure from Greg Elliott breathing down his neck.
He needed to redshirt.

I expect a decrease and I think 48% (which is excellent) is a reasonable expectation. A decline to 40% would make me think something is wrong.

Yep. Life in sports.

Matt Heldt is taking too many no-footers instead of passing out to him.
He's losing quickness.
He's too old.
His neck has gotten thinner.
He's not 17 anymore.

You'd be wrong. In the past 5 seasons, there have been 11 qualifying players to shoot over 50% from three that had eligibility remaining. Of those, Nate Buss (40.8% in 2015), Brandon Pye (40.5% in 2015), Micah Mason (44.5% in 2015), and James McGee (41.8% in 2016) were the only ones to eclipse 40% in the following season.
7/11 (63.6%) players that broke 50% failed to even break 40% the next year, and only two broke 41% with none reaching 45%. Maybe Markus will break that trend, but anything over 40% should be celebrated.

What sort of volume did those players shoot in their over 50% season vs. their season(s) to follow?

Every one of the eleven players increased their attempts in the subsequent season. I would anticipate Markus will do the same.
Head games, substitution patterns, Wojo doesn't know how to use him, is ruining his confidence. Takes him out too fast, won't let him play through mistakes, is/isn't running the offense through him.....

Wojo sucks.
There will also be a Dominic James comparison thrown in there as well.
Last time I checked, basketball was a team game (with the possible exception of LSU when Pete Maravich was there).
I'm happy that our guys have received recognition for playing well.
But it means nothing.
I'd trade the recognition for a win against South Carolina last March.
Wouldn't you?
I'll bet Markus would!

Well....one of those was a team award.

It's not really a choice. It's not like had we shot a lower percentage from 3 as a team (or if Marcus himself shot a lower percentage from 3) our team would've beat South Carolina and taken their spot in the Final Four...

How do you figure? I think that shooting lower percentages from shots worth more points would definitely mean a W in not just one game but also a guaranteed final four

Exactly. It's a false equivalent. I mean, wouldn't we all prefer world peace to winning a national championship?
