So going out with a girl for two years now. She has gone to marquette games (including the nova game). I thought everything was perfect. She loved marquette and seemed interested in the games.
However today she let slip that her and her family are huge Domer fans. This is a betrayal beyond betrayals.
Scoop help me in my darkest hour. What do I do? :'(
A. ND has an awesome campus, but a crappy basketball stadium. Not updated since 1841.
B. Cheer for ND football and call it even. At least she is trying to meet you half way on basketball.
C. Enjoy life with a beautiful young lady.
D. Wish her mom a very special Mothers Day.
Shoot her.
Twice.
pass her off to the god next month, I'll hit it
ND fans or ND alumni?
How on earth have you been dating for TWO YEARS and you only got to the Notre Dame fan topic today? That should probably be at latest second or third date material.
Sports allegiance is far from the most important thing in a relationship, but communication is critical.
Did you ever ask? Did you tell her that you hate ND? Or did the subject just never come up?
pics?
Could be worse...at least she's not a badger fan...
Eng needs to provide advice here. Ultimate mixed marriage.
Gtfo bro
Ask to meet the family.
Wear all the MU gear you can find.
Make your point - you didn't want to be able to see cows from your dorm window.
Drink all their good booze.
Leave.
If she comes back to you after that, you'll be fine.
Have you kissed her yet?
Feel blessed at life's wonderful surprises and put a ring on her finger asap!!!!

Paging Dr. Phil
There are a lot of MU alums married to UW alums. Also, it just might add a little spice to the relationship.
I think it is more important that she likes sports than the fact she is a Notre Dame fan. Her alliegence can change. Marry a girl that does not like sports and eventually she will not want to go to games with you and at some point she will not want you to go games.
My advice to your girl friend is that she should dump you and find someone that is more accepting of who she is.

Do things change with his girlfriend since ND did $24.6 million in renovations to the Joyce Center.
Tell her ND sucks and hope she gets da hint, hey?
Why can't you breed a pig with an ND alum?
There are some things even pigs won't do.

Not everyone is fortunate enough to be a Warrior married to a Warrior.
We accept the fact that the Irish are of a different faith tradition. The bigger question would be what do you intend to raise the children -- Warrior or loser?
If she insists on Domer, then you have a serious problem.

Do NOT show her this thread - at least not until after you have vetted her sense of humor and her sensitivity to sarcasm. Most women do not have the thick skin I have built up over the years of reading you guys' immature and/or misogynistic posts.
That being said - I assume she is Catholic, and a lot of Catholics are Domer fans by default. If the two of you get serious, she will probably switch allegiances. At a minimum, she should respect yours.
The family's ND fandom will simply become a source of (hopefully) good-natured ribbing. I have a high school friend who is a huge domer fan - travels from Chattanooga to South Bend a couple of times a year to go to football games - even though all of his degrees are from state schools in Tennessee. Whenever I catch him on Facebook referring to ND as "we", I respond with "What's this 'we' crap?" and point out Tennessee Tech's dismal performance.

If he wasn't able to figure out after 2 years that she and her family are Domer fans, there's a reasonable chance he hasn't figured out the other stuff as well.

Happy Mother's day, Warrior Chick. Thank you for putting up with the misogynistic BS that goes on here.
On to the dilemma. Other than agreeing that you should have figured this out a helluva lot faster than two years, I honestly don't see the problem. I married a huge Hoosier fan with an entire maternal side of the family Badger fans and alumni. They are good people who have never been anything other than kind and gracious. We joke sometimes, but it is never message-board level angry. My bride was happy when IU landed Crean, and happier when they fired him. Domer is a different kind of mental disorder, but it is highly unlikely to affect you in the long term. If you were happy with the girl before, this shouldn't fundamentally alter it. Besides, it isn't like the Domers have the stones to actually schedule MU anymore.

You'll lose the potential spouse MU degree points for reseating purposes.

Two years. I just don't believe it. Either you are not really an MU fan, she is not a real ND fan, or you made the whole thing up. Not a chance that you made it through 2 bball seasons with ND making Elite Eight and Mu making tourney without figuring this out. Could not have happened. Calling BS.
I married a Badger grad.
She consistently knows more about MU ball now.

Accepted at ND. Accepted at Michigan. Chose MU.
As a veteran of a mixed marriage I can provide some feedback. One of the key's in my opinion, is that they are actually an educated sports fan vs someone who "grew up" a fan or a bandwagon fan who couldn't name 2 players on the roster. Nothing would drive me insane faster than if I was having a debate with a significant other who knew nothing about the team but was telling me how great they are. If she can't name more than 3 players on the roster but has to wear the gear all the time and rub it in your face GTFO.
Now my wife is a saint because I am an unabashed hater of all things Wisconsin, including football (as a PSU fan) so she has to put up with my derogatory comments all the time. Classic example:
Casual kitchen conversation while we're making lunch
Wife character: How old do you think Owen needs to be before he goes to a UW spring football game?
Me: I dunno, whatever age he is when I'm cold and dead
Wife character: ......So, I shouldn't get you a ticket?
And she openly cheers for MU at all times other than when playing UW.
So bottom line, at least for me, she has to love sports, know them, and be able to put up with all of my competitiveness. And you have to have some teams you can agree on, if we weren't both Packer/Brewer fans I think it'd be a disaster.
*I'd argue Badger-MU marriages are way worse than ND-MU marriages because with ND you theoretically have more in common (private school, religion, lack of true rivalry in the last 15 years) the Badgers are a sworn and eternal enemy who are not worth our respect.
If it didn't come up in 2 years, she and her family can't be particularly die-hard ND fans. More than likely, they're not alums and of the "football bandwagon" variety. If that's the case, I'm guessing she can be easily turned into a Marquette fan and, if Wojo does his job, her family probably could be too. Really, it's all in Wojo's hands now.

A Warrior begot a Warrior in my case (Dad was MU 55). Dad was a proud alum who sent four of his six children to Marquette. Three of the four Marquette grads married Warriors and stayed within the faith.
Had no interest in ND. Yes, their football was alluring in those days but having gone to a Catholic grade school and Catholic High School (named the "Irish" even though their colors were purple and white and most of the Catholics were more often than not not of Irish decent), Notre Dame was jammed down our throats -- kinda like being a priest. After awhile, it became background noise, just like Notre Dame.
In retrospect, I've found in the professional world that few schools take care of their own as well as Notre Dame does. You hire a Domer and I think they are trained to take over. Within a month, you have dozens more Domer resumes. That's impressive and, candidly, I've generally been impressed with Domer grads.

Went to a Catholic/Jesuit high school. Applied to/accepted at MU, ND, Holy Cross, Georgetown. Eliminated ND and Holy Cross (all boys like my high school) and Georgetown (too far from the girlfriend I was broken up with by Thanksgiving). That left Marquette - lucky me!!!

Yes, the response will be, but the initial comment should not even been posted. This board has gotten to the point that at times it is unbearable, especially the continuous sexual comments. That comment to "warriorchick" was unacceptable and there are a few posters who constantly wait till there is an opportunity to pounce and continually make the class clown, high school sexual aspect.
The consistent use of words such as wood, johnson, touch the heine, Porcini's, pulling out, take it from behind, balls, nuts, and I could go on with more, but most of you know what has been written over the years.
Some may believe this is all in good fun, and look at some posters as being funny, but it really has gotten old.
