Marquette director of basketball operations Justin Gainey is leaving the Golden Eagles to become an assistant coach at Santa Clara, a source told the Journal Sentinel on Monday morning.
Congrats to him. Santa Clara's campus is unbelievably nice. Cool little arena too. Can't go wrong with Northern CA, especially when you're not in downtown SF but not far from it.
So now we just need to replace him with an veteran defensive coordinator and we're set.

Going to a good Jesuit institution with a great campus. Wish Justin well.
Good luck to Justin. It's a nice little promotion for him.
Has Tyler Thornton graduated, or on track to graduate, this summer? One would think Wojo would just promote him to DBO, and then get a new graduate manager.

Thorton was not with the program this past year.
Is Director of Basketball Operations or Director of Player Personnel considered higher on the chain of command?

Director of Player Personnel is kind of a made up job as far as I can tell. I don't think Buzz had anyone with that title. I think moving into that other role would give him a variety of experience too.
And I've left and Dodd's board to come here. We are both moving up. ;)

Congrats and welcome. You'll find the subscription pricing for scoop a little outrageous but the monthly dumpster fire threads will more than make up for it.

OK, but you better not have come to get Stan. If he ever leaves, Marquette University will cease to exist!!!

We'd turn into St Louis...geez
On second thought, I choose cease to exist.
Why do Wojo's assistants keep leaving?
Guess Gainey didn't get enough playing time at noon ball.
Got over recruited, pole axed, another Wojo smokes & mirrors job
I knew this thread had potential.
Next man up, ai na?
Don't worry, Wojo is out looking for a new Director of Basketball Operations as we speak.

No idea. LinkedIn not updated.
Santa Clara to the Big East
Wojo cooled on Gainey.
Assistants no matta, hey?
Good news for Gainey and the program. Nice to see guys coming to Marquette and moving up the ranks. Maybe if he does well enough, we'll be in line to bring him back in a bigger role on staff down the road.

Just remember that he is moving *back* up the ranks. He was a full fledged assistant at Appalachian State and at Elon prior to coming to MU. (I believe he was out of work due to firings at those places.)
