Title: How to work the RPI
Post by: MarquetteDano on January 07, 2008, 11:58:42 PM
Anyone see St. Mary's (CA) RPI?  According to Pomeroy, it is #3!!!!!! :o

Looking at their schedule (see below), it is a testament that you do not need to play the top teams in the country for a good RPI.  Obviously, even if they continue to win it will drop... but still...

Their best win (from a RPI perspective) is Drake at home.  They lost their only two away games (Texas and Southern Illinois).  They have won all of their neutral games, though their best neutral win is San Diego State.

I would say a win over then No. 12 Oregon is their best win, IMO.  At this point the RPI is much more about your opponents records regardless of which conference they play in.  Things will work themselves out in the end.

St. Mary's is good, but the WCC with a slightly down Gonzaga is not strong enough to keep them up there.  If they play well in conference they probably finish 25-30.
