Title: How come every time we lose
Post by: Mayor McCheese on January 07, 2008, 04:23:02 PM
Someone complains about Tom Crean
Someone complains about scheduling
Someone complains about no bigs
Someone complains about DJ
Did I miss any?

do we honestly think we are going to go undefeated in Big East play???

West Virginia is a very good team, a very good coach who knows a thing or two about Marquette, and a very good home court advantage.

we lost, teams do that, we will bounce back, teams do that, I am sick of reading the same complaints over and over.  The schedule is fine, if you want we can play a schedule like Memphis, where we have tough games in November and December, and then cupcakes in February and March, rather be in Conf USA with Memphis?

Would we be as good as Memphis is? If so, sign me up.

Did I miss somebody complaining about Crean and DJ? Because I didn't see it.

Here's a newsflash...When the team loses, people like to come on a MESSAGE BOARD to discuss the possible reasons why. Isn't that why this board exists?

Biggest fish in a small pond, vs. big fish in one of the biggest ponds? You're kidding, right?

Maybe you haven't seen Memphis play this year, but there is no reason to believe they don't have as good a chance as anyone to win it all. They aren't good because they are a big fish in a small pond, they're good because they're good. My comment was meant as a bit of a joke, but I might be willing to pay the price of a move to C-USA if someone could wave a magic wand and suddenly make us as good as Memphis. Kind of like the earlier discussion if you would take a National title if you knew it meant Tom Crean would leave.

I think MU is very good, and I think they are going to win the Big East. I don't however believe they have a realistic chance to win the National Championship. Memphis on the other hand just might be be the favorites to win it all at this point. All I'm saying.

Reasons we lost, in order:    No flow on offense, unable to defend the three, atrocious rebounding,   a so-distant-it-can-only-be-seen-with-the-Hubbel-telescope fourth is officiating.    Worst performance of the year.   Learn from it, move on.   If it becomes a trend, worry then.   Every team lays an egg from time to time.   This was an omelette.

Fair enough. I'd still take our current situation over Memphis' any day, current teams included.

Preach! That's the truth, tower. If we're gonna drop an egg, we ought to make it sunny side up and look at the bright side. We're gonna be fine.

PRN, people aren't coming on here just to POSSIBLY explain the reasons... all they do is come on here and whine, and its quite annoying.  Some posters on here only come on when we lose, and when we win, they are no where to be found.  All I was saying is we are 11-2 with losses against an undefeated Duke team on a neutral floor, and to West Virginia, a team that has been in the top 25 this season and have a very good coach.  Give the team some slack, someone showed a box score of Marquette losing to East Carolina in December of 2002, these things happen.

Navin, you want us to be like Memphis? OK. Let's throw all our academic integrity out of the window, never graduate a player and hire a sleazebag coach. Will that make you happy?

Wouldn't it be nice if these people came here to talk about wins and success too?  It seems strange they only come after a loss.  Oh well, some people live to bitch 24/7

Not that we have done any better lately, and not that the Elite Eight is bad at all, but the past two years they have had teams that had a good chance to make the Final Four and end up losing in the Elite Eight.  I just don't see them winning a National Championship despite the fact that them and North Carolina clearly have the best talent in the nation.  I think they run too much of an undisciplined offense...it's like LeFlore's team against Vincent...although LeFlore clearly had the more talented team, Vincent was clearly the better coached team and won as a result of it.  I have a feeling that is what will happen to Memphis, and I think it will be in either the Sweet Sixteen or Elite Eight this year...wouldn't be shocked if they won it though, they're LOADED.

Geeze, relax! I am happy. Quite happy. Wasn't complaining. Wasn't whining. Even after that shocking, inexplicable, unacceptable Big East road loss, I remain steadfast that MU is going to win the Big East this year. I never said I wanted to be like Memphis. I simply made a half fast remark that if we could be as good as they are, I might consider a downgrade in conferences a fair price. I am beginning to recall why I rarely come to these boards anymore.

For the record, If that's what it takes to be as good as them, then no, I would probably take a pass.

PRN was almost kinda positive lets all rejoice! no i like PRN's opinions though.

there is a sh!tload of whining on here but when it comes down to it,

we are a team with flaws, as most teams are, and about officiating...

sure there were some questionable calls, maybe some bad calls...

there usually are, but we also must realize that we often are the beneficiary of non calls

and ticky tack fouls that go our way as well.

long live crean's diet pepsi and necktie that is about twelve inches too long!

Human nature, guys.  Winning is fun and will create happiness with the victor.  The loser tries to find a reason, assess blame, get it off his chest.

No sense crying about it.  Get used to it.   You think 20 seasons from now, people will be any different?  Not a chance.

Personally i'd pick the A-10 with Xavier and Dayton to be the big fish/small pond.  because if it meant being a perennial Nat'l Championship Contender (coupled with back-to-back Elite Eights, ala Memphis the last 2 seasons, not first round losses - ala us) why wouldn't you?

Well, they're also good because they have recruited and kept jack booted thugs that no one else would have recruited. Their star has been arrested several times for assualt, only to have the charges dropped.
No, I would take our team over that group anytime.

PRN: Are you saying that MU's reputation for graduating players isn't what it is cracked up to be?
