Kudos to Mississippi State women for making history.

And kudos to the UConn women for a record that may never be beaten.
Geno showed a lot of class in defeat, as he always does in victory.
I love it! Congrats to Miss State and the Huskies! Geno is a class act.
Anytime you have one team that dominant in a sport, it's not good.
Men's basketball had the same problem when UCLA won almost everything between 1964 and 1974. It's good for the sport that UConn lost.
Still, Gino has class.
Love watching Geno lose. Not a fan.
One of the 10 biggest upsets in modern sports history?
It's too late for me to think of others except the obvious - Buster Douglas, Miracle On Ice, Nova over GTown in '85 - but it's got to be up there.
I mean, 111 straight wins, 4 straight championships, and they lose to a team they had beaten by 60-some points a year earlier. Yowsa!
geno on the hot seat ey? tc's chance for a 3rd impression :D

I thought it interesting that Geno reiterated his statements from the beginning of the season that this UConn team had serious flaws and he was surprised they went undefeated until Friday. (Maybe these were comments to local media.)
Mississippi losing to South Carolina is kind of like the Yankees losing to the Marlins after managing the win over the Red Sox in the ALCS. Got to finish the job.

+111
I've always found Geno to be a bitter, whiny egomaniac.

I only heard his interviews in the half-hour or so after the loss. He sounded gracious and very complimentary of Miss State.
Fire Geno

5 straight times the team to knock out UCONN has lost their next game.

I used to be. He says all the right things in the press conference. But I find his negative recruiting tactics to be repugnant.
An impressive win streak, but then.....
De La Salle High School has long been recognized nationwide for its extraordinary football tradition. The team, when coached by Bob Ladouceur, holds the national record 151-game winning streak spanning from 1992 to 2004, more than doubling the previous record of 72.

What does he do? Do you have proof or just hearsay?
I'm not saying you're incorrect. I legitimately do not know and am curious.
Rumor has it that he would tell recruits that his was a 'straight' program, whereas Tennessee was the 'Lesbian' program.

In related news, Jay Bee was seen at MSP boarding a plane to Hartford.

"Family values" is the term I've heard, but not at all a fan of negative recruiting like that. His job is to raise these students up, not promote bigotry.

In all fairness, the team that beat MSU by 60 points last year also graduated players taken 1st, 2nd, 3rd in the WNBA draft. Completely different UConn team that had chinks in the armor all year.

You may have heard wrong. People negatively recruit against UConn, too, even to make up claims like this. Geno has had diverse women on his teams for a long time.

Quite possible, but I trust where it came from. Good PR doesn't simply undo bad actions.
There are far, far worse coaches - and players, administrators, etc. - in sports than Geno.

I believe that.
I mean, how many outsiders hated Al when he was at Marquette? He was seen as cocky, was accused of bending the rules, etc.

I'm sure. But I'm not going to cheer for a hypocritical asshat just because there are more hypocritical asshats.

I'm not "cheering" for him. I was merely observing how gracious he was in defeat, and I obviously respect the program he has built.

I get that, just saying why I'm not a fan.
From 2011
Auriemma says he still doesn't know why Pat Summitt, Tennessee's legendary coach, nixed their annual showdown in 2007. But he's heard the rumor that has circulated since: UConn used antigay recruiting tactics against the Lady Vol program. "If someone is saying that's the reason," Auriemma says, "they're more out of their minds than I think they are." Summitt declined to be interviewed for this story.
