Should Georgetown stock up on suspenders and Diet Royal Crown?

If TC was going to happen, it would have by now. Focus seems to be on Danny Hurley, but nobody seems to know anything. GU's search committee has kept the lid tight.

If I were a Georgetown fan I'd want Crean to be my next head coach.
He has returned two former powers to sustained success. How many of the other coaching candidates have that on their resume?
Crean will get them back to the first weekend. The exact same thing JT3 could have done if they kept him.

Bingo.
Crean had three Sweet 16s at Indiana and won the Big Ten regular season twice.
What other candidate has done better?

Relative to resources and personnel that's not that impressive. Sure the team last year was impressive coaching but the Zeller team had what three 1st rounders and only made the sweet 16.
Not hiring an African-American coach at Georgetwon would signal a sea change in the culture of that program, and probably lead to significant roster turnover. I wonder how much that is weighing on the search committee. That would make the job quite similar to what the Indiana job was when Crean took over there, a total rebuild. Personal peccadillos aside, Crean is a proven builder of programs. The big question is, "Can Crean take a good program to the elite level, once he's rebuilt it?"
After all the excitement he felt when he got the Indiana job, losing it must have hit Crean hard. It will be fascinating to see how he responds.

Nobody said that in 1999.

Because as I understand it, Esherick was hand picked by Big John. Will this one be different? No idea. Crean is an interesting candidate. From way in the cheap seats I could see a fit. Will be interesting to see how this search goes
Danny Hurley will be a better fit than Crean, but that guy is greasier.

Ok but you're still not answering what candidate has accomplished more?
I agree he probably should have done better with what he had, but what he did do is still better than what the other canidates have accomplished.
Rick Pitino is not walking through that door.

I would argue that is the wrong question if you are hiring a coach. It should be who can accomplish more in the future.
I don't know if Crean will become the next Lon Kruger or the next Tubby Smith -- time will tell.

I agree with this. I'm happy we took Wojo over Ben Howland based on this.
I just don't think the other candidates can accomplish more than Crean.
I actually think Ed Cooley would have been the best fit if he wasn't already in the conference and already said he's staying.
