Title: MU and Bucks Bidding On 2019 to 2022 NCAA Tourney In New Arena

Bucks, Marquette bid for future March Madness events at new arena

http://www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/news/2017/03/18/bucks-marquette-bid-for-future-march-madness.html

"Along with our partners at Marquette, we are actively engaged in the bidding process for the 2019 through 2022 tournaments to keep NCAA basketball in Milwaukee, and we look forward to hosting many more tournament games and countless other events in the city's new world-class arena," Feigin said via email.

The BMO Harris Bradley Center, which will be demolished after the new Bucks arena opens, has hosted the first round of the college men's basketball tournament seven times: 1992, 1996, 1999, 2004, 2010, 2014 and now in 2017.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a regional final and a frozen four in the first four years of the new arena

If I heard correctly, they will not be including an ice surface at the arena.

Nope, they are including an ice rink just so that they can get a Frozen Four (and Disney on Ice).  The admirals are not coming however.

If the Admirals aren't coming and they tear down the BC, will they play at the old Arena?

If Milwaukee were to host a regional final, would that prevent MU from being placed in that region?

Last week we went through the rule on the first/second round.  What is the rule for regional finals?

I believe it is only for the first 2 rounds.

I think the problem has always been that Milwaukee doesn't have enough hotel space in the immediate downtown area.

I have always been told this is a reason.  But they once held it in Madison and it doesn't have near the space that Milwaukee does. Furthermore you have 8 teams (and their fans) to host in a first/second round, but only 4 in a regional final.

They said the same about the MLB All-Star Game and that went fine. I mean, other than the whole "ends in a tie" thing.

Don't stop at a regional final. MSG is outdated and the BET could use a fresh venue.

Thanks! I was an Admiral's season ticket holder back in the late 80s-early90s prior to moving to Las Vegas.

Anxious for our Vegas Golden Knights to start next season.  The building of their practice facility is up two floors of girders out here in Summerlin (NW part of the Valley).

Bucks, Marquette bid for future March Madness events at new arena

http://www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/news/2017/03/18/bucks-marquette-bid-for-future-march-madness.html

"Along with [b/]our partners at Marquette[/b], we are actively engaged in the bidding process for the 2019 through 2022 tournaments to keep NCAA basketball in Milwaukee, and we look forward to hosting many more tournament games and countless other events in the city's new world-class arena," Feigin said via email.

For those who somehow express uncertainty over MU's anticipated tenancy.

The BMO Harris Bradley Center, which will be demolished after the new Bucks arena opens, has hosted the first round of the college men's basketball tournament seven times: 1992, 1996, 1999, 2004, 2010, 2014 and now in 2017.

I thought that was for hosting the final four in Miller Park.

(In addition to the oft cited fact that it will not heat up above the 50s with the roof closed in winter).

I would sell that as being perfect temperature for the guys running up and down the court for 2 hours - just like it's the perfect temperature to run a marathon in.

Running 3 miles in short sprints over 2 separate 20 minute halves is much different than running 26 miles over multiple straight hours.  Basketball in 50 degree weather sucks.

From a very good and reliable source, MU doesn't care to host the regionals, as it has less teams . Rnd 1&2 hv more teams and a bigger bang for the buck, for all the work involved.  They did put in for the Frozen Four as well ... Bids should come out in April... 8-)

The only way Milwaukee would have a chance at hosting a regional (and MU would pursue such an uphill battle) would be if they wanted to host a Final Four at some point... and that isn't happening in Milwaukee.  Even if they figured out the supplemental heating thing at Miller Park, the horticultural sorcery necessary to pull off Opening Day within a week of a Final Four in an early-spring-Milwaukee climate seems like a bit too much to ask.

Not any more.  The NCAA has thankfully moved away from hosting regionals at Final Four sites.  This year's regionals are in Kansas City, San Jose, Memphis and NYC. Next year they are in Boston, Omaha, LA and Atlanta (Philips Arena, not the dome). Atlanta is the city among the group that will host the Final Four, and that's in 2020.

While that may be true, the NCAA won't award a Final Four to a site that hasn't hosted a Regional Final.  Call it a test-run or a dress rehearsal if you will, but the NCAA wants to see the organizers and the City pull off a Regional first before they're going to award its crown jewel.

In other words, regionals don't have to be at Final Four sites, but a Final Four site has to be at a regional site.
