Title: Vitale
Post by: Marquette4life on March 19, 2017, 12:24:33 PM
Dick vitale says Marquette will be a 3 seed next year in the big dance

Dick is a parody of his former self.     I predicted a 5 seed, so clearly Dickie V is deranged and overly optimistic.

In what context?

Not that anything Dick Vitale says is worth a damn.

Disagree dick has always been an idiot.  Been turning down the volume or turning the channel since the early 80s when i was watching games in high school.  Temeber the conversations with buddys of how loud and obnoxious of an idiot he was

A lot of people didn't like his schtick no doubt.  But he once was a much better commenter on the strategy behind the game.

Did he mean the MU's"Lady Warriors".

Vitale needs to retire, he is just too much to listen to.  Great for awhile, but not now.

That's like taking meaning from ZFB farting other than, "that's a stinky mast mf'r"

I think a lot of what made Vitale "great" was what he represented. When I was in school there wasn't 8 games on a night like there is now. If Dick Vitale came to do your game it meant you were THE game. It was a huge deal. The Journal or Sentinal would have a story about him; probably about his relationship with Al.  It was a big thing. Different times.

DV is absolutely un-listenable and un-watchable.

If he said it, then it would possibly be because Wojo is a Duke, Krzyzewski guy.

Vitale's skill set is as a speaker, private events, promoter. He isn't nor has he really ever been a game analyst, which is his actual job. He is miscast.  If you ever go way back to when he started at ESPN he was very calm, quiet, vanilla in his game analysis.

Did u watch games in 1980-1985 or so when espen was first started?  We was banannas yelling ansd screaming his one eye bouncing around his head like the cookie monsters.  There was nothing calm about it he was the crazy guy on the new sports network.  U must have been watching someone else

But back then, he was fresh and it was new. I really enjoyed him in the early years and then it got old quick.

Remember the ESPN commercial with Vitale and Joe B. Hall is the early 1980's when Vitale says, "Don't worry Joe, I won't tell them what the 'B' stands for!"

That was classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who is worse to listen to---vitale or Walton
Not sure I can answer as I turn the volume off whenever either one is doing color
But I do like V's prediction

He's amusing but I can only handle him in small doses.

I'm concerned about next year...KR, JJJ, and LF weren't stellar this year, but they were important and I'm not sure I see anyone on our team with the ability to drive and kick or finish at the rim.  Certainly we are going to rely on some freshmen in key spots...feel like we are two to three years away from reaching Wojo's full potential.

Perhaps HC will surprise me...but I think we need him to get to the rim for us next year.

I'll always have a soft spot for Dickie V. He had me, when He said if Austin Peay beat Illinois in the NCAA Tourney (He would stand on his  head).  Well he paid off, went down to Clarksville and on Campus stood on his head.  Can't think of too many Broadcaster honoring a bet like that.

He said it on a tv broadcast. One of those 30 seconds of schtick moments that they always give him. I really wouldn't put much stock in it. What he said was all schtick and no substance

Kiss of death?

I'll have to take your word for it because as soon as I see his face on the screen, I either fast-forward (if it had been recorded), hit mute or (most often) change channels.

He was a unique character in his early years on TWWL, but he hasn't mattered for a very long time.
