Giving full credit for silver warrior for the idea behind this one......
MU accomplished what it did without a single player on any of the all-big-east teams. One all-league freshman. MU did not have a single player that you could reliably predict would have a good game. MU did not have one player that could be given the ball and told to get a basket. MU did not have a single player that could be put on an opposing player and told "You need to stop this player on this possession." They did not have a player that could put the team on their back and carry them to victory. They did not have one player you could look at and say 'that is the leader of this team'. This makes what MU accomplished even more remarkable. All of their offense came out of the offense or off transition. Almost no one-on-one moves outside the offense.
There were only two guarantees about this team. The defense would be poor and there would be a lot of 3's shot. And the team still won 19 games and made the dance. This is one of the reasons I am optimistic going forward. I believe Markus, Sam, and Froling fill the in game leadership roles next year. With the sage senior driving the young men off the court and in the locker room.
And some people think this year's team was better because we had Katin Reinhardt instead of Hank. I love Katin, but replace Hank with him and this team would be dancing through this upcoming week.
