Really? I thought it was at least kind of funny. That second half D was pretty atrocious.

First, Frank Martin is a very good coach. I want to say that.

But I missed you calling him a defensive genius his first FOUR years at South Carolina when none of his teams made the NCAA tournament.

Men vs. Boys out there on defense. Effort was there but just got worn down in game of attrition. Wojo needs to continue to change the roster composition to become a lot more athletic. His incoming class is a step in that direction with a few slots yet to fill.

Bingo.

I had no thoughts that this team would survive the first weekend unless Troy somehow upset Duke to start.  The team was incomplete and played to its strengths well down the stretch to qualify for the tournament.

I personally was surprised at how good SC was. After the first half you knew that MU would have to get into the paint because they weren't going to continue to shoot the same FG% as they did in the first half.

Our small guard lineup just didnt work out against their length. If rowsey or howard drove pass their defender SC's defense swarmed and or the taller defender recovered and contested the shot. I'll be very interested to see how Duke matches up against them.

Our defense will vastly improve I would hope in the next couple years after next years bigs get going.  That PF gap has really hurt us.  Lots of mismatches due to out height last night.

Lateral quickness on defense to stay in front of your man. Duane Wilson did this better than others. Lateral quickness also helps on the offensive end with regard to creating your own shot, especially when the offense breaks down. Getting stronger, more lateral quickness, length, and player development of the younger players.

We'll see how fantastic his defense is against Duke tomorrow, somehow I don't think they'll put up 90 against them also

He may be a defensive genius but you might want to read a little about his days at KSU. After you know the background  tell me that you want that genius at MU?

Well, you weren't wrong...

I said to my daughter as the first half was winding down and SC started to close the deficit, "This is eerily similar to the MU game."  Then, when they seemingly couldn't miss a shot in the 2nd half, "This is exactly like the MU game".

Maybe Duke has better athletes than Marquette (Ok, not "maybe"), but SC was still able to drive the paint consistently in the 2nd half, and knock down every contested jumper.

Sindarius Thornwell is an NBA player. Already has the build, has lots of offensive skills that can get even better, he can really rebound, and he's a tenacious defender. There's some Kawhi Leonard there.

I know he's had some off-the-court issues, and those might be concerning to an NBA team, but if he can demonstrate that he has cleaned up his act, I see no reason why he can't play well at the next level.

I've seen several mock drafts that don't include him, but if there really are 30 better prospects I'll be shocked. As a casual Hornets fan, I'd love to see them take him in the 2nd round if he somehow didn't go in the first.

Pudner has him #1 in Value Add. He would be a steal.
