Title: State Tournament
Post by: Black Swan on March 17, 2017, 04:10:19 PM
I don't want to jinx the kid but John Diener is putting on one of the greatest state tourney performances ever. I think he has 26 at half and he has missed 3 shots. He has missed 3 fts. He is so fundamentally solid, unreal.

His D is brutal. Not so fundamental on that side of the ball.

Up to 44 points now. Needs one more basket to break Brian Butch's single game scoring record

He is actually a pretty decent and very willing defender but he can not afford to foul out. Like most great HS players defense is secondary.

Yes--he certainly is a great offensive player. His D is bad.

But to be fair, playing defense is hard and barely even gets into the stat sheet. I wouldn't bother.

A classic D2 final. Central held on as Diener's 3/4 court shot just missed wide right at horn. Kobe King is a STUD. He is one of the best players I have seen in the state in a very long time. He finished with 28. Diener is soooooo much better than Depaul. Elite shooter, I would not be surprised if Wojo rethinks things. He finished with 25 and 71 for his weekend. And for the Rube who said he doesn't play defense, he guarded Kobe the last 10 mins or so and kept in front of him. He lost him for one 3 but otherwise forced him into very tough shots (Kobe made a couple and missed a couple). Like the rest of the Diener boys, he will continue to get better. Great, great HS player with another year left.

If Diener is having trouble guarding anyone, he'll fit right in under Wojo. But seriously if he's half as good as Travis was, DePaul is getting themselves a terrific player. Travis was one of my all-time favorite MU players.

As I said he is an incredible offensive player. His D is bad. So what? Don't try and make it any better than it is.

Joey is up 23-20 at half. Unfortunately, as an Arrowhead dad, they count his teammates points too. 48-20 at half

Joey up to 23/15 at the half.  Taller and more athletic than Sam but not quite as good of a shooter. Still a very good shooter though.

That would be the only redeeming thing of the last 24 craptacular hours of basketball

Announcers said Sam was there. My buddy was there and did not see Wojo or staff.

TV announcers mentioned MU twice while I was watching.  Once was talking about the "bad" Marquette loss.  The other one was the Marquette game could have improved the Hausers weekend.

Anything less than 30/30/10 is slacking right?

Wojo might cool on him now. 30 rebounds is a 3 game stretch for us,  so I don't think he fits our scheme
