Was absolutely ripping on Andrew Rowsey on the radio today.Said he does not play the game the right way and is a one trick pony.Totally uncalled for.Needles is a hack.
Actually that is odd. He was very pro MU on twitter. They are in a fight for listeners with 3 total sports stations in Milwaukee, plus WTMJ - part-time as well. He might have been just trying to get fans to call in with rage and to listen as well.
No idea who that is.

Don't know much about Milwaukee sports radio, but yikes. That's bad.
Who cares if he's a one-trick pony when the trick is really, really good?

Well to be fair, Rowsey is a one-trick pony...that one-trick "winning".
Playing the game the wrong way=being in the top 1% in the nation in terms of offensive efficiency. Ok.

Top 4%? Yes. Top 1%? No.
Needles - Isn't that a character in the Back to the Future movies?
Rowsey is the man. We badly needed a dude with a chip on his shoulder and he's got one. Oh, and the man can really shoot it.
Heard it here first. Rowsey hits 12+ 3s this weekend.
Needles is a hack and always has been. He's been in this market for a long time.
I'm a Rowsey fan. Probably not, if he was not a Warrior, but he is a Warrior. If he was a Domer or Badger, not so much
I don't live in Milwaukee, so I had no idea who Dan Needles is until I just looked him up.
So who is doing it wrong - the 20-year old kid who is nationally known as one of the most efficient offensive players in the country, or the middle aged sportscaster who is probably known to nobody outside of Milwaukee?
Says more about Needles and what can only be described as a galactic lack of basketball knowledge than it does about Rowsey.
What the hell is a dan needles

Wow...there's a name I don't see around here much any more. Haven't thought about him in a long, long time.
Well I hope Rowsey trick-n-treats all over Dan "don't know crap about Basketball" Needles, that is a stupid "take" by him.
Rowsey is a baller
I don't know who Dick Von Needledick is, nor do I care.
I do know who Andrew Rowsey is, and me likey.

Absolutely ripping? Absolutely not.
He was critical of Rowsey pulling up for a '3' on the break with no other MU player in sight.
And he made the shot right???
Needles was the nickname of the character played by James Woods in the movie Once Upon a Time in America
We really need to stop needling this guy....
1) I don't know who Dan Needles is, as I am one of the many non-Milwaukee/Wisconsin, non-Chicago/Illinois Marquette alums.
2) Sports talk tv/radio is designed to be polarizing to get people who agree and disagree. Often times at the local level the "talent" doesn't often follow a particular team or sport closely and many "takes" are vague, general etc...
Try music. Music is your friend. It is fun and relaxing. It never has "hot takes". It is much less stressful.
Works for me. I wouldn't be too worked up about what any media person says about an individual or about the program. All that matters is what you think and feel about it.
A lot of shooters get labeled that way. Who cares if he's primarily a spot up shooter? Not everyone is going to be able to create their own shot or get to the rim at will. There's a reason guys like Steve Novak can make it to the league with just one key strength.

I agree with this analysis. Enjoy some NPR so you can tell your grandkids all about what it was like.
If there are this many people, including Milwaukee residents, that don't know who this guy is, that's telling. Hope he enjoys shouting into his tiny echo chambers!
dan needles puts shoe polish in his hair. can't trust a guy that does that.
I'm a pod cast fan, especially Scrambled Eggs. Granted it's tough to get the local flavor all the time, but now it seems like every journalist has one, so it is easy to pick and choose ones that have a topic you might like.

Talk radio is often horrible, but I have been consistently amazed by how bad Milwaukee's is. Omaha and Kansas City both have legitimately good hosts who bring on guests, do actual interviews on subjects beyond the local teams, and take more nuanced (at least in sports talk) approaches to topics that too often devolve into "fire this guy" this guys sucks!". Milwaukee's is just....no value-added insight into anything ever.
They rarely bring on guests from outside the state. Rarely discuss any sport outside the Packers. And honestly show a complete lack of knowledge or derail about any sports besides the NFL. It's pretty much, throw a question or claim out there and try to get people to call in - which is the WORST.
Honestly, the NFL obsession is killing sports talk radio.
F needles, he's a woman beater, that one tooth bastard.
I am often not the target market. And that is ok as long as I find an outlet that works for me.
Example: I like watching (and attending) (and playing...just for fun at this stage) sports. I like the live games. I have no interest in pre-game, half-time, post-game. I don't care what someone else says about it, unless, I am an equal part of the give and take conversation. I enjoy the strategy, athleticism, skill, all kinds of things about it. One challenge is when I just want to check highlights of a game I missed. This seems to get more and more difficult as tv is getting more about on air personalities than the playing talent. I have no interest in the on air personalities. So I mostly just avoid those programs. People watch and strongly agree or disagree, get wound up about it, repeat cycle. That just doesn't seem healthy to me. There will always be people who disagree with you, and some you will think have absolutely no idea what he/she is talking about. Just give me the games, highlights. The discussion part will always be frustrating if you are not an equal respected part of it.
And I like some play by play broadcasters and game analysts more than others. I have had to watch my share of games muting a tv. It all depends.
So this particular person says something, gets a reaction, which serves his purpose. Ignoring him is a more effective strategy. You get to do something more enjoyable.
In all seriousness... why the f@ck would you choose "Dan Needles" as a stage name? What was "Luong Coksucher" already taken? Did he actually start his career in porn, or is he just one of the "hopefuls" that never made it? I'm asking, because I've been listening to Milwaukee radio for damn near 20 years now, and I honestly have no idea who this character is.
What a bunch of faux outrage.
A bunch of people who have no idea what he said getting soooo upset.
Before whining, at least have a clue what you are whining about.
(This is not meant to defend Needles.)

I must not be the only one that doesn't watch channel 12 then. He's been doing the Sports on Channel 12 for several years.
Let's put it this way, Needles cranky old man act isn't an act. Once got in a twitter beef with him because he was spouting crap about a college kid during the B1G championship and he got all bent out of shape.

Does channel 12 offer any relevant insight on local sports?
If so, I've missed it during the 25 years I've lived in Milwaukee.

None of the local stations do....[camera on] re-heated Packer news, single largest news item Badgers (fb or bb) then national story and/or wacky squirrel water skiing video [go to break]....rinse and repeat the next night.
When Needles runs that wacky squirrel water skiing video it always makes me smile.
Needles shtick is the cranky old guy but this thread is Heisenberg level click bait. He simply questioned Rowsey pulling up for a 3 on the fast break instead of taking it in for an uncontested lay in. He made the shot but I'd guess 90% of viewers were asking what the hell he was doing when he pulled up.
I listen to the D List occasionally when I'm driving and it can be amusing. His co-host is a Marquette alum.
Yeah, Drew Olson is great, funny and well-informed. Needles is not.
