Nova will pound Wisconsin.

And I'm not even a Wisco hater.

I looked at it from every angle, and just don't see UW being able to beat Villanova. UW likes to slow it down, but Nova plays slow, so that won't affect them.

Teams that work through dynamic bigs like Happ haven't beaten Nova. Butler beat them twice, Wideman was a virtual non-factor both times, and when we beat them it was when Luke came out that we became most effective. They handled the likes of Swanigan, Patton, and Delgado just fine. They even held Delgado without a double-double twice.

If you want to beat 'Nova, I think the biggest keys are having numerous scoring options so their defense can't key on 2-3 players, limit their outside shooting, and get a bit lucky. I don't think Wisconsin has enough scorers (really only three guys) and they are terrible, absolutely terrible, at defending the three.

It's not impossible, but Villanova is a really tough matchup for them because nothing the Badgers do will take 'Nova out of their game. Honestly, Virginia Tech would have a better chance at the upset, but I don't think Buzz will make it out of the opener.

Huh?  Who can guard Hayes?  I think Jay Wright with a bum ankle could guard Hayes.

Xavier pissed away the game last year and my fear this year is that Nova will do the same thing.

No.   If I filled out 20 brackets, that outcome would never get picked.

correction-anyone have buzz beating villanova?  nope-when in doubt-go big east.  wisconsin used to be decent, but something ain't right with koenig and hayes, imho.  i actually root for them if they aren't matched up with us-what hey...the better they do, the better we look, especially when we beat them

I would like everyone who is considering picking an 8/9 over a 1 to join my bracket pool. Entry is $100 with 100% of the proceeds to the person who chalks the 1 winner.

The rodents are not very good.  Hayes is awful.  He cannot jump, run or shoot.  He plAyed his best ball S a freshman.  Put a body on Happ and keep him away from the basket.  Villanova will kill Wisconsin.

I assume the Hayes part was intended to be teal.  Nova is one of the better defensive teams in the country.  They play superior team defense, and Mikal Bridges is an outstanding man-on defender with the length and quickness to keep Hayes in check.  Nova will throw some zone in the mix too, and with Hart (probably the best defender on the team), Paschal and Jenkins (not the best defender) able to take turns, Hayes won't be able to dominate.

Happ is another matter.  Nova does not have size other than Reynolds, and he really ahsn't played his way back from the rib injury yet (I think he's played the last 4 games).  If Reynolds gets into foul trouble, Happ might have a big night.  But no matta.  Nova too good for the Badgers.

I was at the Big Ten championship game and Wisconsin did not look very good. Koenig had some timely 3's for them, but Happ missed a bunch of layups, and Hayes got his points but did nothing on D. Shoewalter should have fouled out for all the fouls he got away with. If they play against Nova - or Va Tech- like they did against Michigan they will be out very quickly.

I have a bracket pool with a $99 entry!  Same pay off for a cheaper entry!  Come one come all.  3 game bracket all you have to do is win 2.

!!!!special offer -- $98 for those not familiar with Nova or Vadger fans!!!!

edit: how is this an f'ing topic on this site?  Kenosha - you officially suck

The only way Nova needs to guard Happ is to foul him. Put some deep bench guys on him.

I think Paschall and Reynolds can handle Hayes fine. I've watched enough of both to know Nova will smoke them.

I think Vandy got too high of a seed, but they pass my eye test lately, outside of the clunker vs. Arkansas

I have Nova but I think if Wisco beats VT they will be a serious threat to Nova. They obviously got screwed on their seed and are a very good, battle-tested team.

My Big East bias shows in some of my other picks.. I have PC winning the play in game then beating SMU and Baylor. I have have Creighton in the Sweet 16.

Go Marquette and go Big East!

I wish.  I think Vandy beats NW and then gets rocked by the Zags.  What a gift of a draw for the Zags.  The top 8, 9, 4, and 5 all stink in that bracket.  Even the 3, 6, and 7 are horrible for their seeds.  I wanted to take the Zags out in the 2nd round, but I can't see any way it's not Gonzaga vs. Arizona in the Elite 8.

I'd be happier with your scenario than mine. I think Notre Dame takes out Gonzaga. Better on both ends than anyone the Zags have seen since last year.

I've got Princeton taking out Notre Dame, its definitely my boldest upset pick. I also have the Zags reaching the Final Four. Partially because of an easy draw, partially because I think they are better than people are giving them credit for.

I get what you are saying, but until the Zags actually prove it in the tournament I will always pick them to fall early. The WCC is generally trash and I don't think you can play that level of competition for almost 3 months and ramp up for the tournament.

They did get gifted an easy bracket so I could see at least a S16 for them

They may, but they had wins against FSU, Pitt, Syracuse, and Louisville, all of whom have plenty of height. Granted, Karnowski is a beast, but it won't be unfamiliar territory for the Irish.

I mean I have a sense that UW should have been seeded higher, but objectively it is hard to make that case.  Their best non conference win was Marquette.

I agree. People cry foul because they were ranked all year long, but I think that's largely a product of expectations. On 5 top-50 wins, RPI 60 Marquette was their best non-con win, their three top-25 wins were barely top-25 (20 Minnesota twice, 25 Michigan at home), and their non-conference SOS of 276 was bad.

Add that to a down Big 10 and how can you really reward them for that? They could maybe be a line higher, but I even think a 6 is a stretch. Not over SMU, Cincy, or Creighton. Maybe Maryland, but if any Big 10 team really "deserved" that spot, it's Michigan, who had more top-25 and top-50 wins, better computer and RPI numbers, had the toughest non-con SOS of the three, and just won the league's tournament (proof that conference tournies no matter?).
