1. Picked a bad day to have a terrible game shooting 3s.
2. MU just does not match the Hall's physicality.
3. Markus looked like a frosh at MSG. He will be better next year.
4. Luke going back in made my day. He didn't look the same when he came back.
5. The ball just did not move well today. Maybe it was SH, maybe it was nerves.
6. MU's defensive effort waned as the shots kept missing. Solid early, progressively
worse.
7. Delgado as facilitator. Whoda thunk ?
8. In the end, physicality shows up every game. Shooting doesn't.
9. Gotta be smart enough to know to start fouling in a timely fashion .
10. Should have gone small down the stretch with Katin in the game and no center.
11. Nothing to do but wait until Sunday .
Is this the part where I overreact and say we should fire Wojo?

Oui
Tough one. Hopefully an early exit will be extra motivation going into the tourney.
Hoping for a 10 seed in Indy so I can attend. Kinda depends how other teams do at this point? Not really sure.
We gotta learn to win in MSG.
Thought we moved the ball great at times in the first half, but didn't hit quite enough shots. As the game went on the ball stopped moving and guys tried to do it alone. At least a half dozen possessions in the 2nd half where one person touched the ball
I love our team, but damn do we need size. Thankfully next years guys are gonna help in that respect.
Hit the garbage time 3s to make our average lol
Hopefully this loss doesn't put us in Dayton. Hopefully it does give an 11 seed vs a soft 6.
Wilson was just brutal today. Howard not far behind, but he will learn in time, Duane has no excuse, especially driving against 6ft 11 guys. Only one who showed up was Rowsey and Hauser, and for a time Luke. Heldt was just destroyed today. Delgado just a beast against us.
MU shot 43% from three 13-30, but SH made their free throws down stretch by fouling Carrington (11 for 11) and Powell(6 for 6) not smart.
Katin, not really. He had five turnovers (half of MU's 10) Play of game for me was MU down 7 with ball and he made just a terrible turnover and MU never recovered.
Hardly any JJJ in second half.
After Creighton win, everything else is gravy, so be it. Just getting in tournament fine by me.
12. I've missed the haters lately. It will be nice to hear from them again.
Hall didn't hit many threes, but they were hot when they did. 43% tonight, shoot 33% on the season.
Hall shot 96% on their FTs tonight, shoot 63% on the season.
Hall shot 44% from 2P range tonight. For them, that is bad. For us, that is great 2P defense.
Kept the TOs under control but stopped forcing them on Hall in the 2nd half.
Giving up 12 offensive boards to Hall? Actually not that bad.
Personally didn't like the double team on Delgado. I think him going mano y mano would have been less effective than the passes he was making out of the double team.
Reality is, Hall had a great shooting night. We had a terrible shooting night. That will happen. They shoot their normal % from the line, and we win by 1. They shoot their normal % from 3, we tie. They shoot normal % from both, we win with a solid lead.
We've lost 1/3 of our games at MSG this year.
This really decreases my interest in the remaining games before Selection Sunday. My girlfriend will be happy.
Just didn't play well today. Markus was off until the last 2 minutes when it was too late. Rowsey, Katin and Sam missed some wide open 3s we needed. Just not our night.
SHU is tough. They're a bad matchup for us. Really beat us up on the boards.
Luke, get that shoulder right. Really scared me, thought he was done for sure.
I'd almost welcome some disrespect; give me an 11 and a bye without Dayton. We don't deserve to be Dayton. I think we'll be a 10 at the end of the day.
Bummed. Really wanted another shot at Nova.

Noticed the same thing. Good offense but no results in the first half. Bad offense but inexplicably some results in the second half.
At least it seems like Luke is gonna be fine. Really happy he was able to get back in the game some.

We are likely a 10 seed at the moment. This loss won't drop us at all, but it leaves the door open for other teams to pass us. Michigan State won so they will move ahead of us. Seton Hall will move ahead of us as well.
Teams to watch now are Providence, Xavier, USC, Vanderbilt, Rhode Island, Kansas State, Iowa, California, and Georgia. In my estimate, they are the only 8 teams that can move ahead of us. Will also need to watch bid thieves because they could steal at large spots make better teams play in Dayton.
Its nice when u get to hear the announcers talk about the other teams heart, toughness, will to win, and energy for the last 10 minutes of a game. Announcers used to talk about Marquette that way.
Will be sooo glad to never watch our seniors step on the court again. Softest class i have ever had the displeasure of witnessing. Mental and physical weakness

Have to agree with you.
There were games earlier in the season where there were questions about this team but not recently and not in this game. They fought hard, they tried but the shots were not dropping against a physical team. This happens to 3 point shooting teams. I was proud of our men. They deserve to make the Dance and look forward to further progress. Keep the faith on Sunday. This team is a true positive turning point in our program and for that and their heart I thank them.
Just for the record, that post was teal all the way.
I'm high on Wojo and I like the direction we're going as a program.
Fair enough. In the moment, with so many unhappy people around, it is sometimes difficult to differentiate.
Hopefully Luke gets good for the tourney

The hall it all there free throws, they're just a tough physical team we have a hard time matching up with. Not hitting our shots today but I can't wait for the NCAA. I think we get a 9 seed IMO. Hope we light somebody up.

1. 13-30 on 3s, 43.3%, efg% 64%. 39 points on 30 shots. On 2s, 11-30. 22 points on 30 shots. When teams chase us off the 3 point line (as Hall did in the 2nd half until garbage time) our offense usually struggles.

So don't watch. I've never understood why people put them through so much pain when they don't have to. Willingly selecting to watch something that you would be glad to never see, something you consider a displeasure to watch? Just skip it man. Life is short. Why waste it on things that cause you that kind of displeasure? Just don't watch our game next Friday. It's that simple.

Especially when they're funneling us into bigger, stronger, more athletic defenders. It felt like the ball got stuck or lost on drives more than usual today.
It appears we are leaving NYC healthy. We aren't leaving NYC with no chance of hearing our name on Sunday. All in all, a successful trip.
Safe travels home, enjoy hearing MU's name being called on Sunday for the first time in too long, and play better next Friday.
Oh, and fix the one problem with today...get your ball movement and spacing back.
It seems to be like we hardly ever do well in the conference tournament. Maybe we get one win but we just don't seem to play well. And if I recall the games have followed a similar arc. We start off well but just can't match the other teams intensity and lose it in the second half. Buzz had a pretty good record of winning in the NCAA tournament but even his teams (like Jae's player of the year year) didn't play up to par in the BE tourne. Lets hope this foretells success in the NCAA tournament where at least recently we have fared better.

Off the top of my head, I think we've made it to semifinal Friday twice (2008 and 2010) in 12 years now. This is just not our thing, sadly. Pretty sure we've lost on Thursday the other 10 seasons.
Yea, even in 11-12 and 12-13 when we were like the two and three seeds with double byes. We got absolutely shellacked by Louisville and Notre Dame.

We were playing well and up 6 with the ball. I think it was three straight possessions, two by Reinhardt and one by JJJ that they just made their mine up that they were going to shoot and not pass the ball.
After today, we are 10-12 in the BET. Here is how we have performed to seed.
As higher seed: 6-6
As lower seed: 4-6
So we have lost six games that we should have won. And won four we should have lost.

Thought you were but some on this blog just do not get it.
To me, the poor offense came down to two things: first, we weren't hitting from the outside, in part because Seton Hall's quickness closed down the perimeter very quickly and we weren't as open as normal. Second, guys seemed tentative once getting in to the lane; there seemed to be few kick outs, and there were more turnovers than fouls.
Bottom line, the offense wasn't clicking as it has been recently, and that ultimately impacted the quality of the defensive effort, which started out pretty well.
Quote from: tower912 on March 09, 2017, 05:52:59 PM

Agree Tower, and I noted that - our 3 point % went up when Seton Hall lost interest in guarding us at the 3 point line during garbage time. But even before that our offensive achilles heal was abysmal shooting from 2, not slightly worse than normal numbers from 3.
Second worst 2FG% of the season.
PS - Markus had a 134 ORtg; 0 turnovers. His ORtg rose to > 120
Markus Howard now 1 of 10 players w/ >120 ORtg & 25% Usage. Josh Hart, John Collins, Frank Mason among the group. #mubb

JJJ had the great game Saturday and came out today thinking he was Jerry West. Katin thinks he is Jerry West everyday. Even we were up 19-9 I said to my wife our offense had to be more than just fire away, especially when JJJ and Duane were shooting the 3's. Oh, well. Wait and pray. I'd be very surprised if we were left out but our RPI sucks.

I'd feel sorry for you because your joyless life obviously is pathetic, but I don't feel sorry for whiny little beyotches.
Hall pressed 3/4 court to disrupt the offensive flow and spacing. Hero ball returned as a result but no heroes today. Mainly, MU's defense not good enough to end a 17-2 run to start the 2nd. Tough match on the boards physically (which is what the BET becomes).
This is the same story to the season: Live/die by shooting, unbalanced roster where physical match-ups are problematic, no offensive flow mattas, and no defense mattas (especially in a short tournament with tired legs). No surprise.

It's not really trolling to say we aren't good in the BE tournament. We aren't and outside of 2010 (even then GTown slaughtered us in the semis) I can't remember a year in 9 I've been watching that we were good in the BE tournament.

My real hope is a favorable first matchup. Seton Hall and Delgado is a nightmare for us, and honestly, I'm still a bit surprised we did as well as we did against them this season. Minnesota, Iowa State, Maryland, Dayton, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma State, Northwestern, all teams I like our odds against. I even don't mind going to Dayton because I feel on a neutral court, right now, we're better than any other team they would put into the First Four. It's just one more NCAA win credit we can get.
I'll take my chances with whomever we'd be playing in the second round, be it a 1, 2, or 3 seed. I think we're a really tough scout on 1 day of rest. Sure, it'll be a better team and the odds are we lose, but I think we'll be able to give anyone a game in the round of 32 and have a real shot at the second weekend.

I'm having trouble contemplating a scenario where it would even be possible.

To quote a friend....Wojo couldn't win a game of rock, paper, scissors at MSG.

While very sad at the outcome this loss is less annoying to me. We shot poorly against a team we have matchup issues with. Hopefully this won't kill our invite, and we can get back in stride.
