He cheated a little bit by being a starter, but congrats to Wowsey anyways.

Awesome! Thanks.

No cheating. He did not start on a consistent basis.
I believe Davante Gardner started a few times, and he won the 6th man award as well.
And to be honest, I think MU players would have won 7th, 8th and 9th man awards as well. Love our depth.
-
Outstanding. Well deserved.
-
Rowsey was 6th on the team in starts (7 of 30 games), and was 7th on the team in mpg, behind Marcus, JaJuan, Luke, Katin, Haanif and Sam. Don't know what the exact criteria are, but that sure seems like 6th man eligible to me....
Congrats to Andrew!
-
Said preseason to expect big things from Rowsey. Picked him as a top 20 player in the Big East. Not sure if he's that good but he's been fantastic. Congrats Andrew!
-
Well deserved.
He won't win over SJU's spectacular freshmen, but Markus should absolutely be in the conversation for freshman of the year for his play down the stretch.
-
Rowsey only started 5 of MU's 18 Big East games. Coming off the bench nearly three-quarters of the time is solidly in the "6th Man eligible" realm. For the NBA award, a player just needs to come off the bench more often than he starts.
Congrats to Rowsey!
-
Congratulations Andrew. Love your toughness, shooting and leadership.

Congrats to Rowsey, well-deserved!
M2N should definitely win BEast freshman of the year. Historically great shooting.
-
Way to go Andrew!!!! Congrats!

Now we have a pipeline to UNC-Asheville.

Does that mean we are UNC-A Northwest?

A Rose by any other name..

Nice AR; congrats.
Three first year players who are returning next year:
Howard: All BE Freshmen Team
Rowsey: BE 6th man of the year
Hauser: 9 points/5 rebounds per game
Wow. Add Heldt's improvement. Maybe a grad transfer? Plus the new class.
If HC can get it right...MU should be able to continue the good wojo mojo.

You might be right, but we are biased here.
Given that he was the only all-frosh team member who was not a unanimous selection, it's hard to imagine that he will be the freshman of the year, though.
As for Rowsey, that's great news. He is the classic Instant Offense. Another Scooper compared him to Vinnie Johnson, and that's apt. Our own Microwave, helping us cook up an NCAA tourney berth!!

Wojo probably didn't vote for Markus to give him some extra motivation.

Absolutely love Rowsey. Sometimes too quick of trigger, but can you blame the kid. He is EXACTLY the type of guy you want on your team in a tournament setting.
I hope he goes bonkers in the dance. He certainly has the ability to win us a few games simply with his shooting.
-
FOY is going to be Patton or Ponds.
-
Does that mean we are UNC-A Northwest?
Iowa St.-Asheville
ISU-A for short

Now we have a pipeline to UNC-Asheville.
Lose Philly, gain Asheville

Lose Philly, gain Asheville
Whatever works, this year not bad.

re.

Why not?
"Not a unanimous choice" could mean that only one coach didn't vote for him. That leaves 8 who did (you can't vote for your own team members). If 3 of the coaches who voted for him think he should be freshman of the year, and the remaining 7 coaches spread their votes among the other 4, he wins.
-
FOY is going to be Patton or Ponds.
Patton has really dropped off......With Watson yes......Without.....Not so good....
Markus should win it over Ponds......I know Ponds is St. John's best player and the East Coast bias thing.....
But Markus had the 2nd best shooting percentage from 3 pt land.....all time in the NCAA's......as a freshman.....That is pretty big stuff.....
Pretty much all you have to put down on his resume.....
PS.....That Rowsey 45 foot step back video is pretty awesome stuff and should have been submitted to ESPN for Top 10 consideration that day.....Of course if he had done it twice in a row.....It would have gone viral.....
-
Agree with you Burger. Markus over Patton (I don't care that Patton is an NBA prospect this year, he's not performing as high as Markus). Ponds will probably get it though.

I have become convinced that every shot is a good shot for Rowsey.
-
I think FOY goes to Ponds. Not saying he's more deserving than Markus, but I think he'll win it.
-
Ponds can lock down Markus. Markus can't lock down Ponds.
-
It's a showcase and numbers award. Ponds would seem most likely choice to earn it.
-
I am sure a kid from AZ is going to beat out a kid from Brooklyn, NY.
-
good quality freshmen guards in the conference.
Ponds, third in conference scoring at 17.9
Lovett, 7th at 16.3
Howard 11th with 15.4
Baldwin 26th with 11.3
-
Great news. Congrats Andrew. Well deserved.
-
It will be strange in the tournament when the announcers talk about Rowsey being BE 6th man of the year when he starts the game. Non MU fans might be confused.
-
Plenty of motivation for MU. Haypickers will be taking over the Garden.
-

One of your better picks

I agree with this. When we played St. John's, Ponds looked like the much better player.
